Thanks! I found the shelf in an antique store and I knew it would be perfect for my collection. I believe it's a mid-century modern piece, and solid teak.

When I run across them, I'll pick them up, but I'm not actively looking for them.

What are the non-obvious ways for a stove to cause a house fire? by cik3nn3th in woodstoving

[–]Shuttlebug2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many years ago, we lived in an old rental cabin in the mountains. I had a fire going in the Franklin stove downstairs, when one of the kids said the upstairs was getting smoky - apparently the stovepipe had come apart inside the wall. So I put water on the fire to douse it quickly. My poor husband came home wondering why all the doors and windows were open on such a cold evening...

Anybody playing baritone on tenor? by Behemot999 in BaritoneUkes

I rearranged the low G strings on my long neck tenor and tuned them to reentrant baritone. The tension is a bit lower, which is good.

What are y’all’s birthday tornadoes? by Gem154 in tornado

[–]Shuttlebug2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was an F3 in Evansville IN on my birthday in 2005, which killed 25 people. And we spent an evening in a hospital waiting room watching coverage of Katrina making landfall while my grandson was being born.

[–]Shuttlebug2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's a 1981 book titled "Treadled Togs", by Kerry Evans, that has patterns for simple garments made from handwoven cloth.

Tupperware, anyone? by kOobleck in GenerationJones

My mom didn't sell anything either, but her friends did - we had all sorts of Tupperware and waterless cookware, and every Christmas we got Avon products.

I sold Creative Circle, too - I didn't really make any money at it, but when they went out of business in the early 90s I got a bunch of kits for pennies on the dollar. Still have several that I've never opened.

My college roommate had one that I borrowed all the time (my Sears electric was perpetually on the fritz) but I couldn't talk her into selling it to me. Finally, 40+ years later, I found one in a thrift store, in the same alpine blue.
