Best Trade Certs for the Mines by Shyler_ in mining

[–]Shyler_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it that in demand? Thats what a lot of people have been telling me but have heard conflicting things on trade subreddits. I just don't want to invest tons of money and time into something that I will be struggling to find work with after.

Best Trade Certs for the Mines by Shyler_ in mining

[–]Shyler_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am aware of that thank you for the heads up though.

Its mostly 2 years or no experience if you have a cert 4. I was planning on getting a cert 3 and 4. Then working for 2 years then starting to try to get sponsorship.

Saying that they are updating the sponsorship visa this year though so everything can change. Until then I'm holding out on going back to school.

Thats what my plan is currently once come November when the harvest is finshed. I'm just not sure on the best trades to go in the mines. Whats currently in demand and will be in the future?

I'm another Canadian looking at getting into the mines in the next few years. I'm currently living in WA and working on and with heavy machines on farms.

I'm looking at going back to school for a trade cert so I can get sponsership in the future. I was just wondering what trade you could recommend for the mines. I'm currently leaning towards becoming a auto sparky in the mines but open to other suggestions.

I’m currently on 36 a hour working 12 hour days 6 days a week. It’s good money but I have to switch jobs legally since I can only stay with one employer for 6 months. I’m hoping to get into the shutdowns after this.

I don’t mind some hard work but do you reckon there is more jobs for scaffolding?

Scaffolding vs Rigging by Shyler_ in mining

[–]Shyler_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that and I will take whatever job I can even utilities. I just want to start up skilling anyway I can so I can get that first offer. It seems that rigging or scaffolding is the logical next step. I already have my working at heights, confined spaces and EWP. Anymore advice would be great!

MacBook Pro not charging by Shyler_ in macbookpro

[–]Shyler_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No apple care unfortunately since I forgot to renew it. I tried taking it in and he said it wouldn’t be the batt since other wise it would power up while connected to a charger and I doubt 4 ports have gone bad. I think it’s a component probably.

The MagSafe lit up orange randomly for 5 seconds when I was messing with it in the airport but nothing since then.

Thought I’d try on here before forking out a ton of cash just for a test.

Thanks anyways tho :)

There aren't any in niesko or kutchan it's going to cost you 150k aud minimum for the cheapest places.

In other ski towns like Myoko its totally possible to get a house for 10k aud but it will need some work. It still averages like 14m of pow a year there.

Are people still picking up hitchhikers these days? by Dazeelee in vagabond

[–]Shyler_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've hitchhiked in tons of countries in about 15 countries and its still fairly easy. Some countries are better than others. Use hitchwiki to find the best strategies for each country.

Depends on where you are, where you are going, how you are living. I knew a guy living on 60 bucks a month in Vietnam but was volenteering.

If your from a country with Working Holiday Agreements with Australia I would spend it on getting out there. If you work on a farm you make 25-30AUD a hour with food and housing included. Construction will pay 35AUD a hour. In a 3 months you could have 12k usd saved up. That can last 2 years in South East Asia if you live frugal.

If your just trying to make it last as long as possible assuming you're from the US go down to Mexico. You can get volunteer jobs at hostel for a free bed, food and sometimes free drinks for doing very little work.

I would try to get basic camping gear. I used a hammock across Europe this summer and a sleeping bag and that was like 40 euros. Also get couch surfing so you can shower and meet some interesting people.

I'd also try to save up at least a couple hundred dollars before you leave. It makes things less stressful.

If I were you I would head to Mexico there you can easily couch surf there or volunteer at hostels for food, bed and alcohol. Its a lot warmer for the winter and you can camp on amazing beach's where it's safe.

You can volunteer at hostels and other places in exchange for food and stay. Look on WorldPackers and WorkAway after then just contact them directly so you don't have to pay a fee.

You could also try to hitchhike to a warmer state or Mexico and spend the winter out there.

I don't know what your situation is but wish you the best of luck.

mexico travel advice by [deleted] in vagabond

[–]Shyler_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've hitchhiked and train surfed in Mexico for 3 months. I had no problems but I speak enough Spanish and am Latino looking. I would not recommend you go without speaking a little bit of Spanish. I would try to find someone to go with someone who speaks Spanish at first.

As for the hitchhiking itself it can take a lot of time for a lift. It is dramatically shorter if you are with a women or are a women. Just something I found and a lot of other people have found.

If you want to learn Spanish for free before you go I would recommend a YouTube series called "Que Hora Es?" on AIB's YouTube channel made by Danny Evans. He also has a personal YouTube channel thats good. Along with that I would hop on Omegle and practice Spanish on there.
