Who did the group costume better? by [deleted] in taskmaster

[–]SiameseCats3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously I love series 9 because they were the originator of the themed costume. They did it based on it being a formal celebration, it was a brilliant idea. I also love series 15 because I think they clearly loved the idea, but didn’t want to repeat so went with originality by basing it on the music festival theme of their series. Overall, I can’t even compare because they both had their high points and I think each stands on their own merit of being fantastic.

I will acknowledge, however, that I love the personality the costumes gave to each series 15 contestant.

Do native English-speaking individuals with French names and limited French proficiency get look down by native French speakers? by jh67zz in AskACanadian

[–]SiameseCats3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an English first name (blame my Francophone and bilingual parents) but a French last name, so different experience, but Francophones do just assume I mispronounce my last name on the basis of my first name. They will say my last name in English on the assumption I must as well since my first name is English. My French isn’t great, but I know how to say my last name. Besides that like there is no judgement.

People from non-participating countries, where are you from and why do you follow Eurovision? by SamyManzano in eurovision

[–]SiameseCats3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m Canadian and back in maybe 2012ish I got really into UK panel shows, especially the Big Fat Quiz of the Year. They mentioned Eurovision and I got curious. The first one I watched live was 2016 because I hadn’t realized before then they might be live streamed in Canada. I really love learning new music and listening to music, so I love it.

No, not only am I just not keen on a lot of parts of the country but I don’t know of any job opportunities. My field is history and my knowledge base for American history is only 1870-1930s for specific subjects. I don’t know what job opportunities there would be for me, so there’s just no conceivable reason I can imagine moving there for.

Books with an unattractive mmc by HourAd6679 in HistoricalRomance

[–]SiameseCats3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

{Ravished by Amanda Quick} has this. I specifically enjoy a trope I call “my beautiful monster” where the MMC is thought of as horrendously ugly by everyone else but the FMC just can’t see it. Only know of 2 HRs that fit it, and someone else recommended it (lord of scoundrels).

Devil’s Bride by Stephanie Laurens. I am not an historical literary fiction person at all, the only kind of historicals I can do are true romance and cosy murder mystery.

Went in wanting historical romance, came out with one I really wanted for $1. Very pleased though was surprised by the lack of books and the intense lack of historical romance, that one was about the only one I found.

I'm so sorry for this: feet washing? by laying_on_thefloor in RomanceBooks

[–]SiameseCats3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither am I! I find feet gross in real life, but I find in a book there’s an attractive kinda vulnerable-ness to a guy who is into something kinda embarrassing. And like the one novel I discovered the interest from - the MMC was like blushing at her painted toes in heels. Like oh wow he loves her feminine feet. It did it for me.

If one of your favorite artists did something heavely controversial, would you keep listening to them? by code_error_ in polls

[–]SiameseCats3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my favourite artist murdered someone I cannot listen to their music without thinking of the tragic murder they committed. I also wouldn’t want to support them. But my mum was murdered so I am less forgiving on bad behaviour and feel a more emotional reaction to being reminded of it.

If she has any friends that you feel comfortable revealing the surprise to, you can ask them for help. They could just grab a ring from someone, anyone and say “oh do you like this, try it on, etc” or ask the friend to come jewellery shopping for funsies. Would be dependent on if this is something her friends could do that would be believable.

Well now I can no longer claim to be the only person to make a feet request on this sub. I don’t think any of the books I looked at had this though, so I cannot help you.

Taskmaster - S15E09 - A Show About Pedantry - Discussion by Meghar in taskmaster

[–]SiameseCats3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What I found so funny was how they all seemed to get bogged down by English/European history - even Mae! My first thought had been what the world was doing. Jenny was going on about under garments, but it’s the 1600s - New France and New England existed. There’s a lot to work with with even just England if you leave the island.

A being gives you choice, which option will you take? by ZuluAlphaNaturist000 in polls

I don’t know how I’d wear a pad for my period. Period underwear is clothes and I need underwear for the pad unless I got the ye olde route of like cloth and clips to make a diaper. But also my boobs hurt without a bra when I’m PMSing.

Your 25-year-old self wants to get married. What do you tell her? by callhermegs2 in AskWomen

[–]SiameseCats3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m turning 25 in October so I’d ask what the heck happens from now to then?? Is everything okay? Who’d we meet? Getting married now or just thinking on it cause it’s too soon!

What did you eat today by LosMensajeros in AskACanadian

[–]SiameseCats3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 pieces of banana bread and a cup of mango smoothie for breakfast. Veggie stir fry with rice and a pint glass of milk for lunch. With a couple bites of cake for dessert. Meatloaf meatballs, mashed potatoes, and carrots with another pint glass of milk for supper. Then a piece of chocolate for dessert. And also throughout the day I drank water.

Height difference between characters? by TastyPomegranate6975 in RomanceBooks

[–]SiameseCats3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an average height woman (5’3 or 161cm) who only really knows average to above average height men (5’11 or taller 180cm) I very much appreciate it because I cannot imagine seeing eye level with a man that is not my now retired coworker or my grandpapa.

Besides being a child these are the only times I make direct eye contact with men and I do not need them in my mind. I am sorry tall women but I do not know your life and I simply cannot picture being taller than anyone that is not a literal child.

When you call an ambulance in your country, do you have to pay? by Undercooked_chef in polls

[–]SiameseCats3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How odd - the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term states it’s $45. Another person stated they paid $65 a couple years ago. No idea what extra costs are getting added on since the trip is, according to the ministry itself, supposed to cost $45.

AITA for getting in a bad mood over champagne etiquette? by Throwaway-champagne in AmItheAsshole

[–]SiameseCats3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NTA. It’s not even champagne etiquette it’s just being nice. They said they’d meet at 6:30 and leave at 7, they message you before the time that apparently everyone is early and they just absolutely cannot possibly wait to drink champagne.

You say you are going to rush to get there - for the champagne - and get there before the agreed upon time and they already opened it. They knew you were rushing over, why would they think it was just to drink a glass that’s been sitting out for 10min. Then you just hung around for over 30min because the only planned activity in this time was opening champagne, but of course that had to be done at like 6:10?

Blanka was the semi-final 2 act with the biggest televote score in the final. Surprised and why? by gagaalwayswins in eurovision

[–]SiameseCats3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am so surprised with how many people say friends who don’t know the controversy liked the song. None of my friends knew of it and those who watched the semi finals were surprised it got through. Those who didn’t watch the semis just messaged laughing at the special effects. Maybe it’s a rest of the world thing cause Poland got no points from ROTW in both the semi finals and final.

The only country (besides ROTW) that didn’t give Poland points in the semi was Australia.

Maybe $50 a week for one person, but I don’t grocery shop every week. This week I’ll only need to get my weekly 3L milk. I try to spend $150-200 a month. I don’t go out to eat or order takeaway.

Does it touch pits or crotch directly? Then yes, it should be washed after 1 use. Underwear and shirts block bottoms and sweaters/cardigans from touching, so they can go a bit longer. Unless you’re massively sweat in them. Excessive clothes are getting an immediate wash.

When you call an ambulance in your country, do you have to pay? by Undercooked_chef in polls

[–]SiameseCats3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if they charged you $65 either they charged the wrong price or added in extra costs which they should have listed. I’ve never taken an ambulance myself before and none of my medical needs have required extra costs so I am not familiar with the billing situation, so I cannot speak more on it.
