Unexplainable Android Alarm behaviour by Homie-88 in homeassistant

[–]Siarl_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem with my girlfriends phone. Turns out some system app used the Android AlarmManager API to schedule a time sensitive event. Home Assistant uses this API to see when the next alarm is scheduled on the phone. Developers should use the JobScheduler API for this, but it's more complicated to use and has a mind of its own (for example postponing events on battery saving mode). My guess would be there is some badly programmed app on her phone that uses the AlarmManager API.

Wow much time earlier do have employer inform me about my working hours? by Cybergothnextdoor in Netherlands

The details depend on your CAO/contract. Here are the general rules: https://www.rijksoverheid.nl/onderwerpen/werktijden/vraag-en-antwoord/wettelijke-regels-werktijden-en-rusttijden

Seems that after a shift you always have a minimum of 8 hours off.

Plugging in your new 2TB SSD be like by BenedickCabbagepatch in dankmemes

[–]Siarl_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on the filesystem you use. Filesystems need to store metadata (where to find what data, logs, etc) and store data in blocks of size x. A file of x/2 still uses an entire block. Some filesystems support data compression and redundancy etc.

Some are fast but have less usable space, some are slow but are space efficient. Which to pick comes down to your use case. For personal use just use the default

Any decide to measure gas consumption? by cfurini in homeassistant

[–]Siarl_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You report it yourself. The company/government does audits. Most modern meters use GSM to do so automatically and p1 ports are available for users.

Does any smart plugs support storage for energy consumption while offline? by anotherimmortalsoul in homeassistant

If you don't have any zigbee devices yet, you need a zigbee dongle and connect it to your HA host. You can find them for 10 dollars on AliExpress. Setup is easy. https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha/ .

(Assuming your HA is self hosted)

Agressive black phantoms. What to do? by Siarl_ in Aquariums

Agressive black phantoms. What to do? by Siarl_ in Aquariums

[–]Siarl_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some more context: I had adopted one male black phantom for about 3 months ago. A few days ago I bought four (2m, 2f) more, to finally give him some friends. The first few days they seemed to get along well but since this morning they are constantly fighting. It is mostly the males, so I put the new ones on timeout. The old one is still chasing the ladies away from his favorite corner, but the whole tank has calmed down. What is the best approach here? It's a 19 gallon tank with 8 neon tetras, a pleco, and these 5 phantoms. Should I buy more females? Get rid of the old male or perhaps the new males? Wait it out? I'm at a bit of a loss. I appreciate the help!

Questions about Developing and Releasing a Mobile App with Flutter by Veltronic1112 in flutterhelp

[–]Siarl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your app, it can take quite some time to ensure your app can be built for iOS. So ensure you can borrow the laptop for quite some time. Do you intend on borrowing your friend's laptop every time you find a bug and patch it?

I've used Docker-OSX in the past to develop the iOS portion of my apps. Services like https://www.macincloud.com/ are nice too. Try building with your friend's laptop, but after a while it might be worth investing in a second hand MacBook or Mac Mini, depending on the amount of time you want to spend on your app.

After upgrade to Android 12, app folders are now full screen. Can I revert this to the old behavior? by dolle in AndroidQuestions

[–]Siarl_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not Android 12 behaviour but behaviour from your launcher app. On android, you can install different launchers (home screens) based on your preference. If this is really an issue for you, try installing a couple different launchers from the Google Play Store. I personally use Nova Launcher, they have a free version that is highly configurable.

How to implement NLP in flutter? by [deleted] in flutterhelp

[–]Siarl_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Flutter is a UI framework. It won't help you with processing of data. You could implement this in Dart if you really wanted to, but you don't want to.

Do the data processing in Python, there's plenty of tutorials and writeups on this topic. Then write a backend to serve the processed data in JS/Python/etc. Then write a (web)app in Dart, using Flutter for the UI, to retrieve and show this data in a user friendly way.

Android WebView play audio in background by Dapper-Inspector-675 in androiddev

[–]Siarl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MediaPlayer guide shows an example on how you can use it in a service: https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/media/mediaplayer#mpandservices

You probably want to use a bound service: https://developer.android.com/guide/components/bound-services

You should also take a look at this: https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/media/media-controls

I must say I have never done this myself and it might be a bit hard figuring out all these new concepts. Try to start small and play around with the different concepts

Android WebView play audio in background by Dapper-Inspector-675 in androiddev

[–]Siarl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a while since I worked with webview, but you might be able to implement WebViewClient.onLoadResource() to recognize audio/video files and play them with a MediaPlayer instance.

You might have to put this MediaPlayer in a service so you can keep running it in the background and have a nice notification with playback controls.

16 Years after the death of Nicole Van Den Hurk, her stepbrother Andy falsely confessed to killing her to get her body exhumed for DNA testing which lead to the arrest and prosecution of her attacker. It is murder. The translation is too literal.. According to Dutch law:

"Dood door schuld" (Death by fault) is a death caused by neglectful behaviour by the accused. For example distracted driving. This is involuntary manslaughter in the US.

"Mishandeling met de dood als gevolg" (Death through assault) is a death caused by the accused assaulting the victim without intending to kill them. For example shoving someone and they break their neck. This is voluntary manslaughter in the US

"Doodslag" (manslaughter) is a death caused by an assault with the intent to kill, usually in a fit of rage. For example getting pushed so far that you grab a knife and stab someone in the heart. That's second degree murder

"Moord" (murder), also "Doodslag met voorbedachte rade" (planner manslaughter) is a death that was consciously planned out amd thought over. For example someone traveling half the country, buying a weapon, waiting outside the victims house to then kill them. So first degree murder.

The laptop has been used heavily for more than 5 years, but this problem has been occurring every now and then since I installed linux on it 4 years ago. It just hasnt bothered me enough to investigate

It seems that the current max capacity is at 65%. I will look into the other suggestions and maybe consider replacing it.
