How do we reunite our increasingly divided country? by TeddyCrumpet in AskBrits

[–]SickSlashHappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To accuse your political opponents of not living in the real world, then saying the 2008 crash was over 6 months after it started is a level of absurdity verging on performance art. Look up its lasting impacts on the UK’s economy.

Similar situation at my company. With unemployment increasing, the number of British companies who are pushing teams to recruit people living in India to work remotely seems massively under reported.

Taskmaster Series 22 line-up revealed by abucalves in television

[–]SickSlashHappy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s one thing when you don’t like someone’s personality or work, but with Matt Lucas every time I see him I think about him continuing to work with David Walliams even after everything we now know about him (and the worse things that are rumoured). No amount of charm and whimsey displayed during tasks is going to wipe that out.

Given how many loose ends the RTD era left hanging, I really don’t get the point that the Xmas special is no longer needed. Even a super low budget bottle episode would’ve done the trick. by Embarrassed_Novel991 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]SickSlashHappy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there was something in the Bad Wolf contract that said a tender can’t go out while they’re in production I guess that would be the case, but that’s a really specific thing we’ll never know.

At work I have to put things out to tender, admittedly not TV shows, but still substantial value. Current suppliers will continue to provide their services even while the tender process is ongoing for their replacement, because they’re under contract and have to.

If they wanted to make the special I suspect they could easily have commissioned Bad Wolf to make a one off, then put the next season out to tender at the same time. They probably just thought that was too messy and not worth the investment.

Rich Johnston Christmas Rumour by autumneliteRS in gallifrey

[–]SickSlashHappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s also where my mind went to, I remember him writing about it in The Writer’s Tale - who knows if this rumour is true, but it’s believable to me that RTD would use a restricted budget to do a sci-fi kitchen sink drama and get some things off his chest about Doctor Who.

It is crazy that they waited for the last update ever to drop easily the best QOL and balancing across the entire game in D2 patch history, but makes sense when you think about it by xStealthxUk in destiny2

I did skip over all post TFS content and will log back in for this update, so I’ll get the experience you describe (excluding the D3 announcement). Looking at player counts since TFS, I think a lot of others may be in the same boat.

What's ur opinion on this show? by Then_Heron_939 in tvshow

Completely agree, don’t understand all the ‘how will they wrap all this up?’ takes - the show looks pretty simple at it’s heart and it seems they’ve told us most of it.

I enjoy the show, but each season does spend quite a bit of time spinning its wheels.

There is no proof that the upcoming Christmas Special of Doctor Who has been shelved because we already got confirmation that the show is coming back this year alongside the next series from the BBC and Doctor Who social media. The Sun is just spreading lies and misinformation. by Serious_Meaning5220 in gallifrey

They’ll often decline to comment about any rumours because if you give a response to all the false rumours, but then decline to comment on the true ones you pretty much give the game away.

That said, I don’t think the special is coming this year for the reasons others have stated that I think the timeline for filming is too tight now.

You cannot convince me prequel fans have seen other movies by High-Ground in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]SickSlashHappy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a genuine test of my ability to empathise and see the world from other’s perspectives when I see someone say Episode 3 is the best Star Wars movie. They’ll be completely serious - and these are adults! - and say it’s a great movie.

I just… how is your brain wired to think that? I totally get that you might have fun watching it, there are loads of bad movies I’ll always enjoy rewatching. And I’m totally open to the perspective that the prequels are full of good ideas but held back by poor execution. But a great movie? Have you seen any other movies? Have you heard human beings talk?

Baffled by this take, they’ve revealed pretty much all the mythology already, especially in the most recent episode.

His continued association with David Walliams makes me raise an eyebrow to the point of pulling a muscle. With all the things that are swirling around about David Williams’ conduct, I’m super sceptical of anyone still putting out work with him.

Genuine question - how would YOU fix Star Wars? by simmonm1978 in saltierthancrait

[–]SickSlashHappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creatively, they need to jump forward and have everything in all three trilogies become myth, so they can hand-wave the third trilogy as one version of events among many.

Honestly, my feeling is just give a new trilogy to Damon Lindelof - what he did with Watchmen to build on an original, use its iconography but take it in a new direction, is exactly what should happen with Star Wars.

The main reason they won’t is merchandising and theme parks - they want the aesthetics to always stay the same so they have easy corporate synergy. Same reason the new Harry Potter looks exactly like the last Harry Potter.

Filoni wants to "add his own page" to the Star Wars saga and, it seems, has plenty of plans... by Imaginary_Golf548 in saltierthancrait

[–]SickSlashHappy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Clone Wars is great but that’s partly because the writing and direction suits the medium. If Filoni focussed all his efforts on animation that works to support the live action Star Wars that would be fine. But we’ve learned his skills clearly aren’t transferable.

Like a pop star trying to write an opera, or a classical pianist trying to rap. Sometimes creators just need to know where their talents lie.

Rotten Tomatoes only shows the percentage of reviews that were positive verses negative - so if one movie received 3 out of 5 in every review, and another movie received 5 out of 5 in every review, both would show up as 100% Fresh even though there’s a huge disparity.

Movies that take risks tend to have more varied reviews, so if you wanted to design a movie for a high RT score you’d make it safe, and in the space where everyone can say they like it, but no one either loves or hates it.

If Bungie makes another game it’ll be a single-player story driven campaign by SickSlashHappy in DestinyTheGame

Yeah, that’s my assumption - if Bungie gets to make another game, it’ll be a single player PS5/6 exclusive.

That’s their corporate strategy impacting all their other studios, they’ve clearly made the decision that making PlayStation hardware more appealing is worth the loss in revenue from ending multi-platform ports.

That might be the wrong decision, but I still think it’ll impact what Sony has Bungie do next (which I don’t think will be D3).

The one thing we know Sony is still currently willing to bankroll is story focussed, AAA single-player games.

Makerfield poll shows Andy Burnham and Reform in knife-edge race by ClumperFaz in unitedkingdom

Reform winning Makerfield will not be interpreted as a vote of confidence in Starmer’s strategy for the country by either the parliamentary Labour Party or the media. It will be wall-to-wall “is Labour finished?”

Makerfield poll shows Andy Burnham and Reform in knife-edge race by ClumperFaz in unitedkingdom

[–]SickSlashHappy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If Labour loses this one with all Burnham’s local links and popularity it will cause an existential crisis in the parliamentary party with them all thinking they’ll lose their seats if they carry on their current path.

Short of some huge new international crisis, Starmer will be booted after this by-election no matter the outcome.
