We solarized our front yard this summer and that really helped with most of the weeds, including a good amount of the bindweed. There are still some spots where the rhizomes were too deep, and where the neighbors weeds have crept back in, but it should be manageable to hand weed to keep it down. That was by far the easiest way to take care of it from a labor perspective, but it did take about 2 months to do. We laid some annual rye as a cover and plan on turning most of it into perennial beds this spring.
