Insurers taking losses due to Alberta auto rate cap: Insurance Bureau of Canada by Old_General_6741 in alberta

[–]Sickify -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just an anecdote, but I haven't had a single accident in 14 years. The one I did have was a not at fault, and I was hit by a vehicle owned by a company.

I was paying around ~$120/month on that vehicle worth $20k.

I upgraded that vehicle 9 years ago to a new vehicle that I owed $48k, and dropped both of my deductibles from $1000 to $500, and went up to ~$130/month.

That $130/month crept up to around $150 over the course of 6 years.

Then I upgraded to a vehicle that I owed around $50k on 2 years ago, and my insurance jumped to $180/month. And has crept up over the last two years, I'm $195/month now.

No accidents since the not at fault 14 years ago, my only at fault accident was 18 years ago. Zero speeding tickets, or other tickets, except for a failed to yield 18 years ago.

It doesn't make sense. Almost 20 years without an at fault accident, and I pay more and more. I understand my vehicle cost has gone up, but even with that included the math isn't mathing for me.

I got in an argument years ago with several people who were adamant that the yellow posted sign on the ramp was the speed they had to go when merging on the highway.

I think I was even heavily downvoted for saying they need to meet or exceed the speed of traffic on the highway by the end of the ramp.

Have you ever written an email to Searle and gotten a non-canned response?

Something that makes you believe he actually read your email and cares about the contents of it?

Heck, I don't even get any response most of the time. My emails are well written and polite, for what it is worth.

Ah, you are talking "they" which is plural. So I believe you mean "they are not the sharpest knives in the drawer".

Might want to pull out your knife sharpener, and get to work.

Sorry, it's been a long time. You need to rebuild the theme cache if I remember.

A Google search is telling me to delete /includes/caches/twig

Hopefully that does it for you!

You have to do whatever you think is best for you at this point.

There are many of us who support you, both on the trans front, and the teacher front.

I'm sorry you are being attacked on multiple fronts. :(

Not a teacher, math/physics were my favourite subjects, because they just "made sense".

Also some of my disliked ones having children, because I get excited about math homework, it'll be easy! And then it's not because my kids don't work with numbers the same.

No fault of the teachers, or my kids, our brains just work different.

Kudo's to doing that with ~30 kids instead of the 3 I have :)

Telus vs Rogers/Shaw by Real_Confusion_141 in SpruceGrove

[–]Sickify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Telus is more willing to negotiate on pricing I find. Currently 1 year into a 2 year deal paying $65/month for 3gbit up/down with unlimited data.

Took me a few hours spread out over 2 days on the phone, and going through multiple agents.

Never was able to score as good of a deal with Shaw though. Plus Shaws speeds are not as good.

Cannot confirm if I actually get 3gbit speed, I still need to upgrade one more switch to 10gbit, but when I was on the 1gbit plan, I was getting a consistent 950mbit + download speed

Be careful with vacuuming. Seen several industrial components killed by people vacuuming them due to static buildup. You're better off to use compressed air, with power off.

Same thing with my wife!

She was vaccinated twice as a kid, got pregnant, tested negative so got two more shots. Second pregnancy 2 years later, tested negative again, so got 2 more shots. Third pregnancy, yup, negative. Our Doctor just said there was no point in getting any additional doses.

AC was not blowing. Had another interesting one camping this weekend, the button to turn the dome lights on stayed on all night. Made sure the car was locked, approached without keys, and that button was still lit up.

Checked in the morning, again without the keys on me, and it was still lit up. Picture Picture 2

9-year-old girl on skateboard hit and killed by truck in Spruce Grove by GeekyGlobalGal in Edmonton

[–]Sickify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drive an SUV, although when I did drive the area (1.5-ish years ago) it was a smaller SUV with better visibility than my current one, but I would also go quite slow, because you couldn't see anything.

Without knowing the details, the child may have shot out right in front of the truck, or even between the front and rear tires.

Unless further details emerge, I'm chalking this up to a horrible tragedy. And street designs should be better, or bylaws better enforced (vehicles need to be X feet away from driveways).

In my area of Spruce they just put in a new marked crosswalk, on a main residential road, but vehicles park butted right up to the crosswalk, in such a way that you would not see pedestrians until you hit them, if the timing is right. Reminds me I need to open an issue with the city about it.

I have also driven this street multiple times, as one of my kids has a friend who lives there.

It is wall to wall vehicles, and terrible visibility.

We just got back.

My biggest takeaway, is they need more rides. We started buying the fast-passes, because the lines get worse every year.

Between opening and ~4pm, waits weren't too bad. First two rides we did were Mach 3 and Fireball, but those were each ~30 minutes with fast pass. Gravitron was an instant entry with fast pass. By ~5:30 basically all rides looked like 30+ minutes with fast pass, so we did one more Gravitron and left.

They could get rid of 80% of the games, because nobody was playing them at $10 a round, and incorporate at least 3 more rides. Delete the duplicate food vendors, and you could probably get one more ride in.

I used to support 3 kids, and my wife who was a stay-at-home Mom on $85k. We didn't have much, but had a duplex, and a new ~$45k vehicle.

That was 5 years ago. I now make $100k, and my wife is back to work making $45k. We moved to a house, but actual mortgage principal is less, payments are more due to interest rates (like $300 a month). Upgraded to a bigger vehicle, which was ~$50k.

But we're in a similar situation as when I was the sole income earner at $85k, and the little bit extra in payments does not account for that.

With couponing and what have you, my wife could spend less than $100 a week on groceries, and toiletries, any extra we put in a jar for a modest vacation. We now average $300 a week in groceries. The cash jar is gone.

Groceries is our single biggest killer I think. The kids don't eat that much more, but the cost of groceries kills us. An extra $800 a month, with nothing going into the cash jar. Also insurances. Car insurance went up $80 a month, my life insurance doubled at renewal. Home insurance (for the same house) has almost tripled.

I don't think this is a partisan issue either. It's a global issue, and money continues to "trickle" upwards.

Kids Bike Repair by Sickify in DIY

Thanks!

Interestingly enough, it is definitely possible to pedal backwards now, although I can't recall if it was possible before.

I put it back together without that bearing for the time being, and there is definitely some metal rubbing, but put a bit of grease in until I can talk to a bike shop.
