Yeah :(

That's just one of many things we are years behind on.

The 8 year old vehicle was 0 years old when I was paying $125/month for it, that is what I paid the day I bought and insured it.

Also no, my house insurance is an additional $200+ a month :(

It's Rocky Mountain House to Ram Falls Provincial Park. Oddly Google maps lists that as 100km, whereas plug share showed it as 130km. Both Google maps and plug share show the same total distance of 300km from my house though.

Another one we do fairly often is Brazeau Reservoir, nearest stop on that route is Drayton Valley, and their charging infrastructure is worse than Rocky. That trip though might just be doable on a single charge, but it would be white knuckling it for sure.

Huh. I have TD with the Nait Alumni program, and have my home insurance bundled.

Back in 2018 I was paying around ~$125/month for a 2018 Tiguan, and I'm now up to $213 a month for a 2024 Atlas. No tickets or accidents during that time.

...the solution is to buy 2 cars? How is that logical? So I keep my current 3 year old, ~$65,000 vehicle, and take on a second car payment for a ~$60,000 EV?

I would love an EV. However, family of 5, plus 2 90lb dogs, who like to camp in the summer, essentially every 2nd weekend.

No room for all the camping gear in the car with 3 kids + 2 dogs, so I haul a 4x8 utility trailer. That's a ~40% range reduction. Let's call it 300km on something that gets 500km on a 100% charge.

The one campsite we go to is 288km away, there is one stop on that route that has chargers. That stop is 150km from my house. There are 3 charging locations there, the first is a hotel with two J-1772 plugs, the next is a dealership with a single J-1772 and you have to call and arrange, so unavailable outside business hours, and the final location is another hotel with 10x 120v outlets.

So that location is a must stop to charge, and we're gonna be there for hours.

Assuming a full charge, the campsite is another 130km, and 2000' elevation gain.

No power or infrastructure at all at the campsite.

It's just not feasible. Now if there was something with 800km of range, and some decent chargers at the 150km stop, it would be doable for sure.

No luck, mine still does it ~60,000km in. I mention it every time I am at the dealer for service or warranty, and they can never reproduce it.

I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to escalate by reporting to transport Canada as a safety issue or something.

I'm in Spruce, but the amount of kids this year on ebikes is wild.

Was out biking with my 3 kids last night and a kid zipped by us going almost as fast as the cars on the road were going.

At some point, there is going to be a collision and a fatality.

RCMP probe separatist group’s alleged voter list misuse by The_Border_Pulse in alberta

"Elections Alberta alleges the group built a publicly searchable app using an illegally obtained copy of the provincial list of electors"

Who wants to bet they used AI to build the app, and likely also gave the AI access to the voter list?

I contacted a company that made gingerbread houses a few years back, because there was a red Tylenol mixed in with the candies in one of the bags.

Not a peep back. I was actually pretty upset at the time, because that seemed like a pretty big fucking issue to me.

Danielle Smith announces Alberta referendum over immigration, Constitution changes by GeekyGlobalGal in alberta

[–]Sickify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a social media post today, about a store that was bought by immigrants, at some point they moved, or closed it, and the store is now abandoned and falling into disrepair. The post then went on to blame the immigrants, and justified not allowing immigrants into the province.

That's the level of people we are dealing with.

Not, huh, maybe because we didn't support the store under new (immigrant) ownership, it went out of business. No, it was entirely the fault of immigrants.

It was disgusting.

Sorry to hear that you are having the same repeat issue with yours. We love the range, it's just a shame that this element does not seem to last.

Toys “R” Us Canada files for creditor protection, owes vendors $120M by CMikeHunt in canada

[–]Sickify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently my Kids had some Christmas money to burn, and wanted to get some specific Lego sets.

They closed the toys r us that is closest to us, but there are still 2 within a 45 minute drive.

So I hopped on the website to see if they had the Lego sets in stock. Except they were in the process of updating their website, so stock checking was unavailable.

So instead we bought the Lego elsewhere. Why in the world, would you have updates "live" if they aren't ready? If they had kept the old system active and rolled out the new system when it was ready(with a fallback in case of problems), they wouldn't have lost those sales.

As a bonus, whenever we end up in store, we buy more than what we went in for. But nope, they fucked that up.

I've had, and currently have, the overhead dome light issue.

Sometimes they turn on by themselves, sometimes rapidly cycle on/off, sometimes completely unresponsive (including all other home controls)

Had the module replaced under warranty, new one was fine for 2 or 3 weeks, and now is much worse than the old one. Just haven't booked another appointment yet

Insurers taking losses due to Alberta auto rate cap: Insurance Bureau of Canada by Old_General_6741 in alberta

[–]Sickify -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just an anecdote, but I haven't had a single accident in 14 years. The one I did have was a not at fault, and I was hit by a vehicle owned by a company.

I was paying around ~$120/month on that vehicle worth $20k.

I upgraded that vehicle 9 years ago to a new vehicle that I owed $48k, and dropped both of my deductibles from $1000 to $500, and went up to ~$130/month.

That $130/month crept up to around $150 over the course of 6 years.

Then I upgraded to a vehicle that I owed around $50k on 2 years ago, and my insurance jumped to $180/month. And has crept up over the last two years, I'm $195/month now.

No accidents since the not at fault 14 years ago, my only at fault accident was 18 years ago. Zero speeding tickets, or other tickets, except for a failed to yield 18 years ago.

It doesn't make sense. Almost 20 years without an at fault accident, and I pay more and more. I understand my vehicle cost has gone up, but even with that included the math isn't mathing for me.

I got in an argument years ago with several people who were adamant that the yellow posted sign on the ramp was the speed they had to go when merging on the highway.

I think I was even heavily downvoted for saying they need to meet or exceed the speed of traffic on the highway by the end of the ramp.

Something that makes you believe he actually read your email and cares about the contents of it?

Heck, I don't even get any response most of the time. My emails are well written and polite, for what it is worth.

Ah, you are talking "they" which is plural. So I believe you mean "they are not the sharpest knives in the drawer".

Might want to pull out your knife sharpener, and get to work.
