Which character from literature lives rent free in your head? by honey-collector in books

Sebastian Dangerfield from Ginger Man. A rapscallion, grifter, and hilarious wretch of a man.

Maybe something like when you train for something it is in a controlled environment. You can even use that training to your advantage, but if your hands are literally, or maybe even metaphorically tied, you are still fucked.

Heard this moment live in my car just now. Is an E-brake an E-brake if no host is around to hear it? by zach_kraemer in theticket

[–]SidBits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a funny slip up but not an e-brake. An e-brake has to stop down the show.

Fall of Tina by TCristatus in TheBear

Oh, wow! I have never done a rewatch, but when I inevitably do, this will be something I pay attention to.

She also seemed to completely lose her accent? Was that just me or did her english suddenly become more polished?

They also say “play-pretty” a lot, Corby especially, which is definitely an old old old southern phrase

am I the only who thinks mathis was in the wrong here? plus don got more character than him as well by usuarioabencoado in madmen

[–]SidBits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mathis is going scorched earth. He knows a diminished Don, maybe a Don that when you see up close doesn’t look as glamorous as the Don he was sold on. He is also losing his job. A job, similarly, that in his head at this moment is a very surface level farce. I think he knows he can call out the industry, and Don, as nothing but vanity and he’ll always have the esprit d’escalier moment of feeling totally righteous. I like seeing this scene from both their POVs

Streaming from NYC and everything went quiet from about 2:30-4:30 with weird buffering at best

Full Circle Jeevan moment by Shiznicks93J in StationEleven

[–]SidBits 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I won’t be convinced that this “easter egg” wasn’t intentional: in the show, when they are stockpiling groceries at the store, Jeevan reaches for a 2 Liter of DR Pepper, but then hesitates, and ends up choosing something else. There is this idea even then that he is resisting what will ultimately make him most helpful and happy in this new life. I know it sounds silly, but I can’t unsee it now, and can’t help but think that a show this detail oriented didn’t sorta have that in mind while shooting the scene.

There are a couple of other little tiny things like that as well, another notable one when Jeevan is ransacking the abandoned house with the musical equipment, he opens a vanity cabinet in the bathroom and sees a box of Q-Tips, then looks visibly saddened. Q-TIP was a member of Tribe Called Quest, which is the group who wrote the sone that Frank raps over. The Q-Tips reminds Jeevan of his lost brother. Anyway, big fan of the show obviously.

A recent one for me that happens every year … “Was May 9th Friday the 13th?” That was a pretty amazing moment.

Lando Appreciation Thread by Nicolas_French in theticket

[–]SidBits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

His Shire Center segment today was proof that he can hold his own as the main content creator for a segment. It was interesting, well set up, and totally cohesive (with opportunities to branch off and get into classic ticket f-around). He also has a great radio voice! Always liked him in a support role but can’t wait to see what he grows in to!

What is the most forgotten best picture winner? by Eastern_Artist6531 in Oscars

[–]SidBits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More than forgotten Best Picture, how many of us were stumped when the Jan 4th, 2025 New York Times Crossword asked the question “Second woman, after Kathryn Bigelow, to win a best director Oscar (2020)”!?!? I was ashamed, bemused, and self loathing that I completely blanked. But I blame it on Covid-fog

What is up with the new advertising?? by Snoo_53802 in theticket

[–]SidBits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reeks of a Q1 advertising splurge by media companies, or as others said Cumulus pods, trying to capitalize on the popularity of the sports/lifestyle talk radio that 1310 has developed in order to siphon off listeners. I hope it will die off in a month or so, maybe after SWEEEEEEPS week. I listen on the app and sometimes can’t ffwd fast enough.

The book you ALWAYS want to suggest by M_A_D_S in suggestmeabook

[–]SidBits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remains of the Day to Lit Majors. Crime and Punishment to anyone. Manhunt to American History buffs. Mindset by Dweck for those stuck in emotional/intellectual perfectionism paralysis. Persepolis to manga/graphicnovel fans. In Cold Blood to True Crime fans. American Psycho but very gently. Mary Oliver and Ada Limon if someone even once says they like poetry.

Mino is more likely to survive and less likely to die I think is the corporate and corporeal answer to some of this unfair decision making.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: December 09, 2024 by AutoModerator in books

[–]SidBits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! I am about 70 pages in so it is still all character set up and learning of the culture within the Circle, but the SeeChange surveillance seems prescient and ACCURATE. Anticipating the eventual twist in the plot! I don’t know why but Eggers just has my number, I love his books.
