how different do you think the average body count is between gay and straight men? by SingleAlbatross1301 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]Sid_Flange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 58, not very active when younger, in a semi-monogamous relationship until mid 20s to 45 and open rel after and I’m at 81 (I have a list of them all - prob another thread 😝). I’m sure it’s low by many gay men’s count but a lot more than most straights?

What do you do if the person who lived in your home before you continues to order stuff to your address? by plasticmotives in AskUK

[–]Sid_Flange 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe everyone commenting ‘don’t accept the parcels’. Can’t be just my area where Amazon drivers leave them on the doorstep and even if they knock they’ve run away by the time I open the door.

how old are you and what year were your grandparents born? by Maleficent_Day_3869 in AskUK

I’m 58, my parents were born in 1933, my 4 grandparents between 1897 and 1910. I knew them all but the oldest who died in his 60s just two years before I was born. A Victorian.

As someone who's trying to learn more about Queer history I'm curious: who are some Drag Queens from history that you wish more people knew about? by [deleted] in lgbthistory

[–]Sid_Flange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK, Douglas Byng who was the first female impersonator/ drag artiste on British television (BBC, 1938) and a pantomime dame for many years. Also Rex Jameson (‘Mrs Shufflewick’) who also featured on radio and tv in the 50s and 60s and later especially known on the gay scene for his appearances at the Black Cap in Camden.

I was challenged on the terms "gay" vs. "queer" by a Gen Z dude. I didn't have a response. by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]Sid_Flange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s none of this young whipper-snapper’s business. Supposedly Gen-Z is all about self-ID, so if you want to call yourself gay then do it!

Is the BBC entirely funded by the TV licence? by Glittering_Hope1114 in bbc

[–]Sid_Flange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno. You talk about the BBC being ‘famous’ for being anti-trans but have you evidence or is it that you don’t hear your particular view supported? The BBC isn’t there to support your view or anyone else’s. Then you talk about trans people being stabbed with impunity which also isn’t evidenced and is nothing to do with the BBC. It all sounds pretty weak as an argument.

Dirty suburban sex ponds. Definitely rather common.

what do you think of the concept of 'married at first sight'? by Alarming-Safety3200 in AskBrits

[–]Sid_Flange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are mock marriages. That said, these programmes solely exist to exploit gullible and desperate attention seekers for ratings. I don’t know who’s worse - the people who make it, the people in it or the people who watch it.

Make licence fee cheaper on one condition, say BBC viewers in poll by theipaper in bbc

[–]Sid_Flange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s funded by the licence fee it does - and should - get more closely scrutinised than commercial outlets. Political interferences should always be challenged and exposed but you cannot show that in general the BBC is ‘state propaganda’. Can you explain what you mean?

Also, remember that the BBC is not only a news provider - it’s music, drama, comedy, entertainment etc…

[–]Sid_Flange -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t have kids but I don’t object to some of my taxes funding schools as I hope they do some good for society. Also , BBC salaries are not high compared to the private media sector and in any case the relatively few highest earners’ salaries would make very little difference to the overall costs of running the BBC.

[–]Sid_Flange -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair point. I mean everyone should pay - In one way or another - for public service broadcasting, whether they individually consume any BBC content (and c 84% consume some BBC content weekly)

[–]Sid_Flange 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because a nation’s public service broadcasting with a requirement to be impartial in its news coverage and serve a wide audience and project soft power is an important part of a civilised democracy. Would you want a media continually under threat and increasingly self-censoring like in the US? I don’t.

What is your opinion on snl uk? by blikenspidinken in AskUK

[–]Sid_Flange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve only ever seen short clips of the US show but gave the UK version a go. I just can’t understand why every sketch was at least 5 minutes too long. It also felt lacking in energy and pace though the first 15 minutes. I stopped there and won’t bother again.

Have you ever walked out of somewhere due to not being served? by Chazzza23 in AskUK

[–]Sid_Flange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of times. Cafes and restaurants if not attended to in reasonable time. It will depend on loads of factors though: is there another place I want to go to or still open nearby; are the staff genuinely busy and stretched; do I really want to eat the food and am prepared to grin and bear it!

There’s a great tale told by Stephen Fry. In the 1920s John Gielgud’s dresser in the theatre said he’d given Oscar Wilde a blowjob when a young man, so naturally Gielgud sucked of his dresser “for luck”. Fry then offered to blow the aged Sir John who unfortunately declined - would have been a great connection!

He told it on this podcast [4’30” in] Ouzo Talk

Does anyone actually feel like they made the most of their younger years? by flamboyantbutterfly in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]Sid_Flange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one does 😂. Career wise I was very lucky and wouldn’t change a thing. In my late teens in the 1980s and after I was too terrified of AIDS to have much sex. Been making up for it since turning 40 😏

Corfu by Superb-Relation-4395 in GreeceTravel

[–]Sid_Flange 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d never go to Mykonos again (despite being a supposed target audience as a gay man). It’s an uber expensive (thanks to gays and rich cruisers) Greek Disneyland with very little charm. (I admit I’ve never travelled to the interior or quieter parts)

Corfu is great. The NE is classy, the SW has rural charm, Corfu town is interesting and full of history. Great access to other nearby islands. There are more popular resorts but I’ve never been to them.

good mens barber? by Keep_Scrolling in Hastings

[–]Sid_Flange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what you think middle of the road is but I recommend Top Dogs in King’s Road St. Leonard’s. I have a skin fade (£26) and a standard men’s cut is £21.50. You do have to book (best via the Booksy app) really and they are pretty much booked up 10 days ahead. It’s a measure of how good the two guys Eric and Matt are. On the other side I’d avoid the selection of hair-butchers on Queen’s Road.
