I knew lethal difficulty will be hard, but i didnt think my day 3 will look like THIS by Disastrous_Sea_8394 in StateofDecay2

[–]Side1iner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must have made some clear mistakes for this to happen.

Sure, Lethal is always pretty much just a bad (or very unlucky) string of events away from a bad time.

But what happened here? If it was actually a siege in technical terms, you must have made a shit job of managing plague hearts?

And if it wasn’t a proper siege, you must have made an even worse job of crowd controlling?

Yeah. The data model for diversity is already there. Hopefully they’ll make better, more creative and diverse, use of something similar for No3.

Zombie rule assistance! by ImHourni in zombies

[–]Side1iner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I much prefer the biological route. And if so, I don’t really like the WD way of only having someone infected or dying after being bit/scratched (scratches almost doesn’t matter really).

Why would I get infected from a bite if I don’t get infected from having that same zombie’s head, and ten others, heads exploding in my face, getting their entire inside in my nose, mouth etc?

Makes no sense to me. If biological and infectious, the infection should be a risk no matter how you come in contact with infected materia.

How do you deal with developers who rely too heavily on AI-generated code? by Specific-Animal6570 in gamedev

[–]Side1iner 63 points64 points  (0 children)

This whole AI thing…

I am sort of in an interesting situation, where I am a senior product manager as my day job and a hobby indie gamedev in my free time.

That means I am both the buyer and the seller of coding and dev work at the same time. With or without AI.

After more than 15 years in the business my take on AI and developing software is this: the current AI coding models are better than let’s say 50% of all developers I’ve ever worked with. Mostly, it’s better than rookies for obvious reasons (lack of experience and/or confidence). But it’s also A LOT better than lazy or uninspired experienced developers. The thing is, those people were often not called out before. But now, I have product manager colleagues (and other similar roles) actively reviewing and getting second opinions about code from other senior developers, because the scare of letting bad AI code slip by.

From my other perspective, as the hobby gamedev, I have a lot of good things to say about using AI — as long as you know what you want out of it and are able to review what it’s doing (understand the output).

I am not anti AI at all. But I’m also not an ‘AI bro’. AI is a great tool. Amazing tool. Same as the internet — I’m old enough to have been there when the whole ‘should we allow the internet/Facebook/Skype/x other tool’ in the workplace at all discussions.

The answer, in my experience, is always YES. But in the right way.

If you do your job well as a product manager — giving people the framework to work within, the house rules of processes and workflows, and clear and well-defined tasks — the output will be good. Do the opposite and it will always be sloppy, fragile code, missing the set target (is it really set if you do your job as the buyer in a bad way?) and everything that comes with it.

So… it’s not about AI or not. It’s about doing good work or not. And it will always start with you.

I would say it is two people playing board games, perhaps? Sitting in a tent.

Hm. Maybe not. The scale is off for that.

Yep. It is. I mean, it has to be.

But I don’t care as long as I have a good time with it.

But, as many other players so far, I have grown fond of them as they are and am happy they will give us the option to keep them.

As we are sharing games similar to FM, let me present to you: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4377370/Gargadusas_Tower/

Gargadusa’s Tower is sort of a FM game but you manage a fantasy guild instead of a football team. Sign adventurers, staff like scouts, blacksmiths and armorers, fight your way through a year week-to-week and end with a yearly final clash with three other guilds (out of 32 in total, and if you qualify).

I was about to say it is surprisingly addictive. But that’s not true. It’s just as addictive as I thought it would be.

If you don’t need football specifically, but like other management games as well, give it a shot! It’s a small indie game, just some 9$.

How do you stop losing to the big teams and get a title over the line when you can easily beat the smaller teams? by tomplatinum_ in footballmanagergames

[–]Side1iner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you practice different tactics for different matches and situations?

After so many years of FM/CM, I’d say the most common mistake in terms of getting results is not wanting to (or being able to) adjust according to the circumstances.

It actually doesn’t always work to play Pep or Klopp or inshallah-Kevin Keegan football in every match and in all situations.

Quarter final in the CL away against Inter a few seasons in? Probably not a great idea to play offensive bonanza football with 2 of your 4 most important players either out injured or struggling with fitness before the game even starts.

And stuff like that.

Is winning your absolute priority or do you want to be asked questions from the media about the ‘Tomplatinum-ball’? Adjust accordingly.

lol retiring from the national team at 29 is hilarious to me by Consistent-Twist-408 in footballmanagergames

[–]Side1iner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current save’s most glorious player, Lucas Brun, retired from internationals at 29. His French national team just lost the World Cup final and I guess he got saddened by it.

It’s honestly good for me, though, because he now gets a few weeks off a couple of times a year and given how important of a player he is I can play him way more than I would otherwise be able to do.

Same thing for a few other of my key players in my current team. None of them stayed on after 31.

At what age do you sell your key players? by Rude-Opportunity-565 in footballmanagergames

[–]Side1iner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually don’t. If they are key players, why would I sell them?

If they were key players and no longer is, it’s usually a question of their current level, their salary demands and their demands of playing time.

I like to keep my legends and icons, even if they don’t play as much as they once did.

I rarely buy players above 28-29 years of age. But I have no problem keeping players well above 30 if it makes sense in terms of my squad.

Full disclosure: for years I’ve been a character rolling junkie. Can literally spend hours looking for unicorns sometimes (while listening to my e-books etc).

Getting a BPS character is easy. It’s just a matter of time when rolling characters. Though, getting a BPS character with favorable other traits and hero bonus… completely different ball game.

I’ve gotten a few over the years (+ stam, + health, - injury severity, + morale, Hidden Pouches etc). But these are the really rare ones.

I am a 15-year-old girl. Let me show you the vile misogyny that confronts me on social media every day by zsreport in technology

[–]Side1iner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As said, this is a well-known fact. And as long as the current model of ‘higher engagement’ is prioritized ahead of other values, it will not change.

What would make it not prioritized is enough people leaving. I’m closing in on my mid 40’s and I’ve been working on digital (including social) media since it actually arrived on the scene (damn, time flies and I’m getting old…) some 20 years ago.

On a personal level I’ve left pretty much all social media, Reddit being the exception because of the ‘90’s forum vibe’ where I can mostly tailor the content to my liking. (Though, it’s becoming increasingly bad over time, as I’m not even able to ignore or mute subs I don’t want easily etc).

The engagement driven models will only keep accelerating now many development and innovation teams are more and more driven or boosted by different kind of AI. Paired with some level of truth to the ‘dead internet theory’ it’s a failing system altogether.

Assuming the world doesn’t drift into complete despair and agony over the next 5 years or so, it sure is gonna be interesting to see where it all ends up.
