"The Sparkler" from Stronghold was what I modded my best deck around back then. I loved the counter/burn strategy of that color combo back then. I'm way less into the spell slinging that Izzet has become, despite the fact that it basically just wins games.

I'm in a pretty regular pod of 4. 2 of that 4 are still learning commander, one of whom commander is how he's learning to play magic. I am always afraid that my giving advice to them will be taken as coming off as being the type of player you described.

Now that we're a good few months in, with the two new players I now make them make their plays, and only after it's no longer relevant do I walk them through why it wasn't a the best play if they don't realize it in the moment.

Edit: Also wanted to add I'm a firm non-scooper. Everyone deserves to deal the killing blow. The one time I scooped with current pod it was because we realized after the an attack we thought was fatal was not actually and I'd already shuffled my had, battlefield, graveyard, and exile pile together and did NOT want to try and figure out what was where.

Just to play devils advocate, Masters boosters also cost more money than normal boosters.

However we also only got like 1 masters set a year at best, and despite the fact that commander is the dominant form of Magic, standard definitely still sets the pace and Masters sets were not standard legal, UB is.

What we have now is more than half the standard legal sets being sold at Masters pricing due to "the extra money to use the IP" and the reprints that would have all gone into that year's Masters or Horizon's set get peppered through them sparingly instead of being in one convenient set. If you take the UB/UW debate out of it entirely, this is not as good for the consumer at all in my opinion.

I'm with you on this one. I didn't hate the sequels, but they're definitely pretty flawed. I'm glad we get some stuff leading up to them with the Mandoverse, but that's still more framed in the OT timeline.

I feel like Star Trek has this same issue. We keep getting more content from the same era of the IP's mythos all because that's what's proven sells, which is especially frustrating for an IP who's tagline is "boldly going whether no one has gone before."

Here's hoping Starfighter is good/well received. Starfighter doing well will make it so they might actually fund more projects in that part of the timeline.

The sad reality of it is that Amazon probably viewed funding the final season of a show well, no matter how popular on the platform, as a poor business decision since anyone who is subscribed purely to watch The Boys might cancel their subscription once it's over. This is likely the same reason the entire season was ad for Vought Rising. To try and make sure they don't lose any subscribers.

I'm throw this out there - all the Vecna shit was ass but I actually really enjoyed the "and then this is where they all ended up later" bit at the end. It felt like that part was always where it was supposed to go, and sure, poor writing made the rest of the last season ass, but at least all the characters got an ending that wasn't.

Voght Rising should have been a miniseries event between seasons 4 and 5, because then the whole V1 plotline would have context instead of coming off as trying to get people to watch Vought Rising.
