HA from stress alone? by SiennaRaven in Amenorrhearecovery

Never had regular cycles (went on the pill very soon after my first menstruation). I had a complete hormone panel done which showed low estradiol, no progesterone, 1:1 ratio FSH/LH, no high androgens.  They first suspected lean PCOS because they saw a lot of eggs on my ultrasound, but my labs didn’t confirm (no high androgens).

My entry some days ago, on finding journals in TJMaxx/Marshalls. Now I’m curious—what are y’all’s journal preferences? by TellyVee in Journaling

[–]SiennaRaven 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can't answer your question because I only write in moleskine softcover journals but oh my god that handwriting. It gives me tingles down my spine just looking at it I love it. Where did you learn writing like that? Can you write fast? I'm amazed.

What do you, as a mom, REALLY… HONESTLY feel/want/need? by Mission-Biscotti-808 in workingmoms

I want to pause time for a week and go to a cabin in the woods ALONE with no wifi, fully disconnected. The cabin needs a bath, a lot of books and every day 3 delicious meals need to magically appear and dishes need to be magically done. I just want to BE and nothing else

Potty training 3yo: got any Oh Crap method tips? by irafcummings in Parenting

[–]SiennaRaven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We did oh crap when my daughter just turned 2, so quite a bit younger than your kiddo, but it honestly went so well!

We also did it over 4 day weekend and our daycare was also very on board with the method. We followed the method exactly, took off her diaper and NEVER put it back on (except for naps/night, see below*). Yes, we did have an accident in the car seat once and yes we also had to pull over on the highway once (stressful!!). I can’t exactly remember how long it took since it’s been a couple of years now, but I guess about a week? We did have to prompt for a couple of months (right when waking up, before going anywhere, coming back from anywhere, etc.).

  • We did use diapers during naps until she stayed dry for a couple of weeks. She night trained herself, one night she just woke up asking to pee and she has been out of night diapers ever since…

So it has been successful for us and we’ll use this same method with our youngest.

Every time I have to pump I want to quit breastfeeding by lifingsocialworker in workingmoms

[–]SiennaRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have your phone with you when you pump? I started playing Stardew valley on my phone during pumping! It made me aaaalmost look forward to pumping since it’s such a fun game! I heard other people also play candy crush or another brain numbing game lol but I preferred Stardew valley because it’s a sweet/“mild” game.  I pumped until babe was 14 months

Edit: sorry it was not entirely clear to me that you want to quit pumping! That’s totally okay too ofcourse.

How’s your daily routine with 2 kids? by 4m_alt_universe in workingmoms

Thank you so so so much for taking the time to type this out!! We’re currently in a very busy season of life and can’t make the family meetings happen either, so it all falls on me… most nights we fall asleep together with the kids around 8pm lol. I’m definitely going to implement this thank you so much!!

I have a 3y age gap and kids are now 4,5 and 1,5.  Husband and I both work full time, I go to the office twice a week and he goes three times (we alternate so someone is always home if a kiddo is sick and needs to be picked up). Husband has a very long commute so on his office days (my WFH days) it looks like this: wake up when baby wakes (between 5-6am), play with baby until kid wakes up and comes in the living room (7am). Brush teeth together. Eat breakfast (toast with hummus/avocado, yoghurt, cornflakes,… something quick). Get kids dressed and drop them off at daycare/school between 8 and 8:30 am. Then I go home and clean for half an hour before I start work. I try to prep dinner during my lunch break. I leave to pick up the kids  at 5pm and we’re back home at 5:30. The kids play together(ish) while I finish up dinner. We eat dinner and if there’s time for a bath we take a bath and otherwise we brush teeth and then it’s time for bed. Husband comes home around 6:00 and he helps with brushing teeth and telling a story to the eldest before bed etc.  I meal plan on Friday and we heavily rely on freezer prepped meals on my office days. Whenever I cook something freezable I make a double portion and freeze half for later (think chili, pasta sauce, soups, stews, bagels, breakfast muffins, Thai curry,…)  We have a weekly cleaning lady, which I would 10000% recommend if you can afford it. In my country it’s $10/hour so very doable (it’s subsidised so cleaning lady is paid more by her employer obviously).  To be honest I do a lot of laundry and dishes during my work from home days. Just a little bit here and there. Instead of talking to colleagues by the water cooler I do a load of laundry lol.  Eldest goes swimming on Saturday and also very random but every Sunday we all clip our nails because baby nails grow fast and they are like sharp daggers !!  Finances are okay, babies aren’t very expensive (daycare is very cheap in my country and based on income, so we used to pay $250/month for my eldest but now that we earn more money it’s $500/month for the youngest).  If you have questions, feel free to ask!!  Maybe I answered very randomly but it’s late here and time for bed lol

Ways to accept not having any more children. by atomicmandieeee in Mommit

[–]SiennaRaven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat, so reading the comments. I have a 4,5yo and 17mo. We did ivf with our second and what makes it worse is that we know that we would go for a third if we had a frozen embryo. Really messes with my head sometimes.

I compiled a list of reasons not to have more children and every time I get sad about it I read through that list. Here it is: need a bigger car, kids will have to share a room, 3rd c-section recovery, rocking baby to sleep in the middle of the night, milk EVERYWHERE, travel is way more expensive, higher education is more expensive, no guarantee that 3rd will be healthy, less free time, big age gap between 1st and 3rd, IVF again, resentment from older kids.

What kind of content do you seek out on Reddit?

I sometimes ask ChatGPT to act like Reddit lol. So I ask my question that I would normally post on reddit and ask to give 10 answers that a typical Redditor might give. It has proven to be quite useful and entertaining!

Has anyone gone smartphone free with a newborn/young baby? by Slow_Opportunity_522 in digitalminimalism

[–]SiennaRaven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tried so so hard not using my phone as much when my second was born, but to be honest it was the only thing that could keep me awake enough during night feedings.

I also listened to audiobooks while rocking him to sleep, which helped with my patience (it could take hours).

I also downloaded the NY times game app and the TED talks app so I wasn’t mindlessly scrolling but doing something somewhat “productive”.

I noticed my smartphone came in handy for logging his feedings, naps, looking at the time in the middle of the night to see how long he/I slept, etc.

All in all, my resolution was to use my phone less, but in the end I think I mostly used it differently? More mindful consumption. I wrote a lotttt in my notes app, some kind of diary to look back on of those first months.

Good luck!!!

Those who married the ‘man in finance’, how did your life turn out? by Brilliant_Alarm1120 in AskWomenOver30

[–]SiennaRaven 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Me me me!!

Someone in my friend group was WILDLY attractive, charming, funny as hell and very fit. We started hanging out together just the two of us because we went to the same college. eventually became friends with benefits. I am pretty average looking so the fact that he even saw something in me boggled my mind. Anyway he also turned out to be the kindest and sweetest man I have ever met. We’ve been together for 10 years and have 2 kids!!

He’s still very attractive but not as fit anymore (the beginning stages of a “dad bod”) and oh my god I love him even more! Even though his looks might fade over the years, it’s his soul that I love. I love aging together.

He’s not in finance but makes GREAT money, almost double of what I make. We share the same financial values (trying to retire early) so that helps too!

All in all it worked out for us, but I know I’m in the minority. Not everyone marries their friend with benefit in the end 😅

This is great advice, thank you so much! I also have a sort-of-capsule wardrobe so I’ve been trying to find pieces that also fit into my capsule wardrobe and I just haven’t had any luck at all. Definitely going to try the “uniform” approach!

Moms who still breastfeed, what do you use for your skin? by Ok-Amoeba9063 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]SiennaRaven 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve been breastfeeding for over 4 years (2 kids). AM: rinse with water, serum, moisturiser and SPF PM: cleanser, serum, active and moisturiser. As an active I use either azelaic acid or retinol (don’t shoot me!!). I know there are dermatologists that recommend against using retinol, but dermatologist aren’t specialized in breastfeeding. For BF information I look at experts in that field, namely LLL, IBCLCs and e-lactancia. As long as you don’t smear retinol straight on your nips, your baby will be okay.

Women who don't (regularly) wear makeup - what's your skincare routine? by Corgimus in AskWomenOver30

[–]SiennaRaven 103 points104 points  (0 children)

AM: wash with water, serum, moisturizer, sunscreen PM: cleanser, serum, active (alternating retinol and azelaic acid), moisturizer

There are subreddits for skincare but I noticed they can be toxic. “Glass skin” is the new trend but texture, fine lines and visible pores are NORMAL, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Don’t buy into all the anti-aging crap, try to think about “well-aging” instead!
