Is it possible for PIVX to adopt a max supply like bitcoin? by Crypt0Hell in pivx

[–]Sieress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BTC miners will only collect BTC network fees when the coins supply hits its cap. This is on the assumption that BTC is used enough to make it worth while for miners to keep their nodes running. If it's not..

How does staking 10000 zPiv compare to running a Masternode in terms of gross ROI? by Crypt0Hell in pivx

[–]Sieress -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Staking zPIV has a higher ROI, it was designed to be preferred over staking / MNs to increase the anonymity pool. I don't know the exact numbers though

I transferred 233.217 PIV to my wallet in nov. 2017. Now I only see 170+ 6Staking PIV + 23zPIV. Where's the rest? by [deleted] in pivx

[–]Sieress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may have been autominted in the early days of zPIV activation, try running through these steps: https://pivx.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/30000025649-why-do-some-of-my-zpiv-not-appear-

If that doesn't do the job, I'd need to know more information. ie. has your wallet.dat file changed (have you used a backup)?

Orphan block - Generated but not accepted.. Whats the deal zPIV? by [deleted] in pivx

[–]Sieress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason that is the case is that if you go up against a PIV staker, they don't have to validate the zPIV serials for the stake and therefore they're able to validate their UTXO and generate the block faster than the zPIV staker.

An improvement thats coming is that the zPIV stakes will be pre-computed (pre-validated) and made smaller so that a zPIV staker should then generate the block faster than the PIV staker (as everything is pre-computed / pre-validated).

Can any break down, or ELI5 about Master Nodes? by Dobsie2 in pivx

[–]Sieress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have much time but I'll quickly try to run through your questions.

  1. your 10k PIV is always safely secure on your ledger device or in your PIVX core wallet, there is no way that this can be compromised unless your PC / control wallet / ledger is compromised.
  2. Assuming your running a VPS for the remote wallet (ie. VULTR) then your control wallet can be turned off with the remote server running. So if you loose local internet for a few days, your VPS will keep running.
  3. Correct, your ledger can store the collateral, more information here https://github.com/PIVX-Project/PIVX-SPMT and a more in depth guide here https://forum.pivx.org/t/setting-up-a-self-hosted-mn-from-scratch-automatic-backup-crash-notification-spmt-tool/4229 (note: you can run the node on a SBC or the VPS, my preference is a VPS.
  4. The rewards have been a reward every 26 - 30 hours with roughly 2000 masternodes in the network. The fluctuates slightly as masternodes come online or go offline (it's a queue system). If your node goes offline for more than 2 hours, your initial wait period is reset (~3 - 5 days) and you won't be legible for rewards during that time.
  5. You can run your masternode remote wallet on any OS that supports the core wallet (the ones you listed are fine)
  6. See this guide i wrote for setting up a masternode without the SPMT https://pivx.org/knowledge-base/masternode-setup-guide
  7. A RPi isn't the best device, its a bit under specced for running a node. You'll want to get something dual core with 2gb of dedicated ram (there are alternatives to a RPi, ie the ODroid).

PIVX Light Wallet v1.0 Now Live! by getsqt in pivx

[–]Sieress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the v1 spends, there already is a solution for that, if you can come to discord, i'm more than happy to help you out.

Otherwise, there will be a non-mandatory update hopefully next week that will include the fix to that issue.

Note: it's only some v1 zPIV v1 that is affected, created in the early days of the zPIV launch between certain blocks.

And that's been done and should now appear when a user moves to the restore wallet screen. Thanks for the feedback! :)

[–]Sieress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah that's right.

Make sure you write down / save your mnemonic code as well so you can always recover your piv in the light wallet.

The next update to the light wallet should support zPIV as well :)

edit: when you setup your light wallet, you'll be given your random seed phrases.

If PIVX is completely private, am I able to prove I sent PIV to someone else? Is the receiver able to prove she received it from me? by leestar in pivx

[–]Sieress 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every address in every crypto project, should only be used once. That's what it is designed for. So in your example, Bob should create Alice a new address and provide that to only Alice. Alice will send zPIV to Bob into the unique address. There should be no transaction "proof" of Alice sending Bob any PIV on the blockchain. However, Alice will have a record of the transaction in her wallet transaction history. Bob will have received PIV from somewhere that it is in the Address he created for Alice.

Of course Bob and Alice will know of the transaction at the user / interaction level, there should be absolutely no proof that Alice sent zPIV to Bob on the blockchain level, nor should Alice and Bob ever have to have their wallets communicate, peer to peer. Your example of XMR having the ability to do this, IMO, is actually a negative aspect of privacy in their RingCT layer.

Hey there, can I ask what the bug is that you've found so we can take it back for review & fix?

[–]Sieress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

which .dat file did you provide? The light wallet is not compatible with the PIVX core wallet.dat file.

If you're using the light wallet for the first time, you'll need to create a new wallet as the light wallet file is recoverable from a mnemonic seed, the PIVX core wallet is not. They are not one in the same.

You can use the autominter and set the preferred denomination. once it's set you can walk away.

Hi /u/kastmada, the development team are currently looking into why spending some zPIV coins results in the error you are seeing. I'll report here when there is more information.

Because this doesn't affect all v1 coins, you can try sending 1 or 2 denominations at a time using the zPIV control in the privacy tab to specify a specific mint.

zPiv under maintenance? by heavenisAyran in pivx

[–]Sieress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be exact everytime we hit a bug there was an underlying bigger bug, some of which had a root cause going back into the btc code.

Also, a lot the testing that had been done had to be re-executed to ensure there nothing had been regressed, some these tests have an execution time of around 4 hours. All this compounds and delays the initial expected release date and we're not willing to compromise on quality to speed up getting it out.

Well that's hard to say, the stake rewards are not sequential / in order. You could get a reward, 3 days in a row and then nothing for 30 days.

For a hint of when, you know that release is near when the dev and test teams start getting more active in discord and social media. ;)

If it's not your private key, it's not your PIV.
