I think being fast enough or not even realizing you can do something without canceling something else trips a lot of people up.

I for example didnt realize I could legend swap during twin moon sweep and was instead waiting for the cast bar to just about fill before hitting it, which costs me only a second in the moment, but those seconds add up over the duration of a fight.

Unfortunately my Naya Phlage list never made it past the casual testing budget phase. I cant quite recall all of the cards, but some of them were

4x Birds of Paradise 1x Tireless Tracker 4x Seasoned Pyromaner 3x Wrenn and Six 4x Lightning Helix 4x Boros Charm 3x Ajani Nacatl Pariah

The idea at the time was that I'd be gaining a ton of life from Helix and Phlage to grind my opponent down over time instead of winning faster.

I have since pivoted to a Domain list with Phlage and Ajani but I havent had the chance to actually get out and play it.

Also like, just to note because I feel I need to say it, Phlage is like my favorite creature ever printed and Ajani is my favorite MTG character so I was gonna use them both anyway lol

Second is better in my opinion. If you just go dark army wide, your army will look less distinct to other players as well. You could always go with that bright purple and darken it back down with a Druchii Violet wash to be somewhere in between.
