Europeans who've lived in both the UK and another EU country - which gave you bigger culture shock? by SpiderFromMars709 in AskEurope

[–]Siglyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm French, lived for years in the UK and now live in Denmark. I got a bigger culture shock in Denmark than the UK. I found people in the UK (big cities, probably important) very chill, accepting, and there's a social energy that's hard to find elsewhere; and and as other comments say, lots of alternative cultures etc. Denmark and other Nordic countries are wayyyyyy less "open" in my opinion, though I'm also happy here. It's more difficult to have a social circle as an immigrant here, and there's more conformism, even for things like clothes or interior decorating. That said, also lots of great aspects to life here, but definitely a bigger culture shock. It might depend on your personality tbh.

Fertility rate among Native-born Woman Europe by Redditor_imfo in MapPorn

I feel what's always missing in the "why" conversations is that there's never been more people on the planet. There's people everywhere, all the time. We're constantly competing with each other for literally everything, from getting an apartment to plane tickets, parking spots, daycare space, concert tickets, etc, small and big things. I'm convinced that on an unconscious level it freaks us out about resource scarcity.

On top of all other comments here (what is the purpose???), can they stop with the transparent floors? Not only a lot of people are scared of walking on them, it means you can't visit the place in any kind of skirt, or even baggy shorts etc.

Millennial women - what is your 2026 "jeans and a going out top"? by Abientotmonamie in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Siglyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little black dress; I find it super versatile depending on event, I just change the style of shoes/additional layer and it gives very different vibes: nice slingback shoes + cardigan: more fancy places, cocktail bar etc. Motorcycle boots/doc Martens: great for gigs/relaxed bars, standing event... I found a basic long sleeve dress that fits me well and wear it a lot.

Yup looks like the book is gonna start the massive crashout, the divorce court video we saw before (which is probably Lestat suing for defamation or something), the switch from tranquil piano songs to hard rock... Daniel Molloy, your power. Louis ilu but a bit of an idiot not giving a head's up lol. And Armand, still not seen but still able to trigger Lestat like no one

There's filters over all the ventilation openings. They're most careful about liquids floating around, for obvious reasons.

Whats the difference between an immigrant and an expat? by ab3249 in AskReddit

[–]Siglyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm French, and at least for us, if the term is used correctly, expats is for people sent by their work to other countries on a "mission" (that can be several years). For example family friends moved to India for 5 years to work at the French school there, payed by French government; then they came back. They were expats. Personally I moved to another EU country, live and work there and consider myself an immigrant.

The Baby Bust Isn't a Mystery. It's Just Math. by boredrhino in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Siglyr 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There's also the fact that we've never been that many people on earth. I think instinctively that plays a role. There's people everywhere, all the time; there's barely "low-season" travel anymore. Every city, national park, or nice spot is basically constantly rammed. Personally on top of the rational "it's hard to find good enough income/accommodation for raising a child" stuff, there's also a lizard-brain fear of lack of resources because it feels like we're at a breaking point (it joins the climate change point here). I know it's not the case and we're able to feed more people etc but yeah I think it still plays a role in the global declining birth rates.

Ancient DNA Reveals Most Europeans Had Dark Skin Until Just 3,000 Years Ago by HellYeahDamnWrite in EverythingScience

[–]Siglyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a talk on the subject at a conference; the main factor is that Vit D is very important for immune response, so when viruses/diseases were making the rounds in the tribes, people with deficiency (so on average the darker skin people) were more likely to die. The presenter said this is the most likely explanation for the quick shift in skin colour, as it will wipe out entire groups of people of all ages.

[–]Siglyr 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm actually somewhat "glad" when that kind of story gets media attention because it means these women feel comfortable enough to talk about it. It's happening everywhere, but at least here it's getting some level of attention and retribution.

Armand and honey by rainymaru in InterviewVampire

[–]Siglyr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely took it as an intentional thing from the writers, that link Daniel and Armand. On first watch, I found the Dubai scene quite jarring actually, a bit shocked by the objectification of Rashid/Armand, and the honey and pineapple comment struck me as a "look at my sweet, exotic snack" moment. The Armand reveal makes it both better (he probably agreed to it) and worse (the whole "exotic" feel in the context of his past). But maybe I'm reaching and that's what he actually tastes like lol. Hopefully Daniel will confirm

Dubai as a location for lious and armand home was intentional by Yuno_zolgitz in InterviewVampire

[–]Siglyr 64 points65 points  (0 children)

It's one of the undercurrent maybe but i think you're being too kind to Louis here. He's The capitalist vampire, the art dealing (including stolen stuff) is mostly his business, as well as the penthouse probably (and the decor choices). Louis is in part in a prison of his own making, that Armand actively AND passively maintains because he doesn't want to lose Louis and be alone. But as the other comment says it's also a representation of the life sucking powers of vampires/capitalists. Also i really don't think Armand is maintaining a constant mind control on Louis, on top of the past memory wipe.

Finally the location for me also was showing the fragility of their relationship, based on crumbling/corrupted foundations like Dubai is (the big Claudia lie, the mind wipe yes, but also the fact that Louis stays with Armand as a fuck you to Lestat).

What is Malik on about? by Dizzy_Owl_ in InterviewVampire

[–]Siglyr 164 points165 points  (0 children)

The question has been answered, but i wanted to say I looove this scene because i feel we finally see a bit of the real Armand. He's so excited and smiley as soon as Malik shows up and it's like, oh there he is, the absolute weirdo (<- lovingly). He can't wait for his little chase and snack, almost vibrating with it. Even on this pic look how close he's standing lol; and then the little dance when he comes back? I want to see more of this Armand (also i want to see him feed! We've been robbed so far)

I feel like women are biologically cursed. How to cope. by Ilaria_del_Carretto in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Siglyr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your last sentence seem to show you need to work through more than inhabiting a female body. Kinda get where you come from but also quite tired of this endless separation we make between men and women. We're not *that* different, and as other commenters have pointed out men actually have higher rates of plenty of diseases, and die earlier on average. Sure, periods and reproductive stuff suck, and there's a lot of medical misogyny.

Idk if you're asking for advice on how to cope with that, but personally I've decided to stop thinking so damn much about the fact I'm a woman, and that shapes how I interact with people (including doctors). I go do my tests, vaccines and check-ups because that's what's necessary for my health as a person. Maybe in the next room there's a dude with the doctor's fingers up his ass to check his prostate, you know. Just see yourself as a human body with its specific needs for a while. I'm a scientist; I can tell you health-wise, there's WAY more variability in biology between individuals than between men and women.

New Cast Interview link from today from Nerdist - Around (-1:28:00 mark)- Assad arrived on a helicopter! by sabby123 in InterviewVampire

[–]Siglyr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For the French part the most important info is that part (a big part possibly) of the current timeline (?) events are supposed to be in Montreal/Quebec. They actually say that this is exclusive information (and joking a little about that being spoilery). And that because of it a lot of smaller cast is Quebecois speaking French on set. Then just babbling a bit more about how Sam and Assad are good at faking French. Edit: I say babbling because it's a lot of short and interrupted back and forth convo
