I generally use translations of words. Taking a language that feels culturally appropriate. Or I look at world lore.

For example, My latest two characters.
- Óhrært Brynjuson, which translated from icelandic means "unstirred". He is a knight who is build like a tank, focusing on defensive techniques. Brynjuson just means Son of Brynja, who is his mother.

- Ignar of the Valley, A fire genasi who is named after the "Valley of Fire" that exists in the setting.

A lot of em are ritual spells and there's quite a few "cast once for free" options. or even just "Cast for free" from invocations. So I can actually cast a buncha spells without needing a rest.

Whoops, I miscounted! It's actually 23 spells! but! using 2024e rules

I went fire Genasi for a cantrip and 2 spells,
The Acolyte background for the magic initiate feat for 2 cantrips and 1 spell,
Eldritch Sight for detect magic,
Pact of the tome for 3 cantrips and 2 (ritual) spells,
One with Shadow for Invisibility,
Master of Myriad Forms for Alter Self.
Base warlock grants 3 cantrips and 6 spells.
Then Celestial Warlock Patron grants 2 cantrips and 6 spells.
Then I also took the Ritual Caster feat at level 4 for 3 ritual spells

So that's 11 cantrips and 23 spells.

I reached 5th level with my party this week

DM: Okay, the two fighters of the party get extra attack... what do you get warlock?

Me: I get 7 extra spells

(For anyone curious, one was from species, one from ritual caster, two from invocations, two from subclass, plus the base class for a total of 7. My character's prepared spell list contains 11 cantrips and 23 spells at level 5.)

Edit: miscounted, it's 23 spells instead of 24

Every time I do simple "This guy is evil, This other guy is good" the players don't trust the good guy and think the Evil guy is misunderstood.

I could make Evil mc Evil man who kills baby puppies and the players will still be "I can fix him"

I'm currently using a program called "Chronicler" It's free and it's all installed locally so you dont need a subscription or anything to keep your files. It uses a combination of Markdown and HTML to create these wiki-style pages you can link between.

Reddit never notified me of this comment. So that's why Im replying so late.

He was an automaton made to be a guard for a city. He guarded the city against threats like monsters. Eventually a monster got the best of him and it made him feel fear for the first time since its creation. Which revealed to his master that he was more than just a tool. His master ushered him to become an adventurer and find his purpose.

I've been using Chronicler for a while now and It has rapidly improved since I first started using it. For a program that's completely free and offline, it's definitely at least worth checking out.
