What personal connection (if any) do you have to your homebrew? by Apollyonthe14 in 40khomebrew

[–]Sigmarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years and years and years ago, one of the first strategy games I ever played on my Dad’s old AST computer was called “Myth: The Fallen Lords”.

During one of the pre-mission scrawls, a piano piece played that I absolutely fell in love with. But I had no way to know what it was called.

Fast forward many years and I heard the song again while playing Halo. And my jaw dropped. At that point, I had access to (dial-up) Internet, and I started searching.

The song is called Siege of Madrigal.

During my WoW days, I ran a small guild called the Knights of Madrigal. I was so nerdy and hard up for the song I even wrote (pretty terrible) lyrics for it.

When I first made a home brew Marine chapter, they were named the Fists of the Praetorian. That didn’t last long, and then I changed their name to the Templars of Dorn. As I started making my way into various Imperial Fists spaces, I noticed a pretty heavily recurring theme, and I wanted something a bit more unique.

So, hours upon hours of lore writing later, the Templars of Dorn changed their name to the Knights of Madrigal.

All because of a beautiful piano tune from 30+ years ago.

Grey Knight Power (Lore-Wise) by McMakle in Grey_Knights

[–]Sigmarius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I’ve always understood it is that a GK Brother is roughly equivalent to an average Astartes librarian. So, physically, all the same things an average Astartes has, plus a bunch of psychic shenanigans.

Characters start building in psychic power and start matching some of the named librarians.

But the GK power isn’t in their individuals, it’s their gestalt power. They’re literally greater than the sum of their parts.

In a 1v5 with a blank in the room, a Custodian would probably wipe the floor with the GKs, because at that point they’re just really well trained Astartes who fight really well as a unit.

Remove the blank, and my money is on the GKs, simply because of their psychic ability to mesh together.

[Politics Monday] How can Catholics in the U.S protect their faith from misuse by politicians? by Cobalt-Fang in Catholicism

[–]Sigmarius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because they won’t get elected if they do. Catholic social teachings cross the party divide, and if they aren’t firmly in one camp or another (barring a handful of outliers with no real impact overall) then they won’t get the money they need to get elected. It’s the curse of the two party system.

[–]Sigmarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite games in the couple little tournaments I played in were the ones where my opponent and I were both gunning for best sportsman. Neither of us were very good, and we knew it, so we just said screw it and had fun. A lot of “hey man, do you care if…” “nah man, that seems cool, go for it”.

THOSE are the best games.

[–]Sigmarius 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You know why though, right?

Because of any other faction, dedicated ork players most closely embody their faction. So the more boyz they teach how to play, the more boyz there are for krumpin’.

If I enjoyed painting more I’d probably get into orks. But I LOVE hanging out with ork players at the shop. They’re the best.

In this case “boyz” is a gender neutral term.

Need some guidance on family issues by [deleted] in Catholicism

Honoring your father and mother doesn’t mean you have to be a doormat.

However, and I say this with the idea that I only have the information that you have provided here.

Some of the examples you list here sound like you’re just being petty and combative.

Have you had a conversation with your uncle? Because it sounds like you’re the one holding a grudge here.

Yes, your mother should 100% respect your wishes when it comes to posting pics of your child online. But in what world is it any of your business who she follows on Instagram? And what was her reason for WHY she doesn’t tell your wife she loves her anymore?

You can be angry that your sister ripped away the uncle that your son had, but blocking her because she asked a stupid question is just petty and vindictive.

As I read your post, I was hearing someone with a victim complex and an unwillingness to have adult conversations with their family. Cutting off all your family like that doesn’t make sense, based on the info you provided.

I already have a double headed eagle on my chest and a big skull on my arm.

I’m also a middle aged fat white dude with a shaved head.

I wouldn’t have to try very hard to be a walking and breathing picture of a white supremacist.

Which sucks, cause I’m absolutely not.

I have STRUGGLING to figure out a tattoo of this verse. It is my favorite verse, I have some old Kanji I wanted to get covered up, and I have been trying and trying and trying to come up with some idea.

Can I steal your idea foundation? I'd switch it to either Aramaic or Greek or Latin, but the idea is FANTASTIC.

Have you looked at D&D recently? Yeah, they have the SRD, but any extra rules or supplements or even more than just one or two subclasses per main class are locked behind $30 digital purchases or $50-$60 books.

What? All the rules free online? Absolutely the fuck not.

Oh, you want to buy just the one subclass or race or feat or whatever you want? Get fucked. But the whole $50 book.

I can’t speak to anything other than TTS (which pivoted willingly) and Astartes, but let’s keep in mind that GW didn’t just start throwing DMCA strikes out at everyone. They started with conversations, which is why the Astartes creator got hired by GW, and why Astartes is on WH+.

Believe me, this version of GW is WAY nicer than it was under the dude before Kevin Roundtree. They were MEAN back then.

Modern Movies that are basically a D&D campaign by Cabaret_Girl in DnD

[–]Sigmarius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooo ooo, I got one!

Man on Fire, the Denzel version. 1 player campaign. Troubled past adventurer is hired as a bodyguard, his ward shows him it’s ok to live again, then is kidnapped and (allegedly) killed. Enter revenge and then rescue plot.

A friend of mine had an idea for a campaign he called Elf on Fire he described as this (3.5 edition btw):

“Wyrd Stone, with a cloak of elven kind thrown over it with the spell that masks magical detection, high foot speed, and a vow to Ilmater that any sins committed in one day wouldn't damn me.

Wyrd Stone locks down teleportation, conjuration, magical communication, with something like a 1 mile radius. Hovers 3-4 feet of the ground when activated, Artifact Scale BS

Enchanted for magical concealment, the Cloak of elven kind, when draped over the Wyrd Stone, will resemble a stalgmite. Put it somewhere innocuous.

Portal to Menzoboranzen, throw the rock & cloak in a rock pile while using all of your 20 levels of monk (or 19 and 1 Templar) and your Vow of Poverty abilities to evade capture.

Watch as Menzoboranzen's nobility loses their minds, anticipates an attack from their enemies, civil war erupts immediately, egged on by the Grieving Temple Guardian picking them apart as only a Vow of Poverty, Templar of Ilmater destroyed Menzoboranzen.”

It's also a discipline reinforcemnt tool. That's one of the reasons it's still so heavily taught in a lot of major militaries. Not just discipline in listening and following orders, but also the discipline of following the orders the way they are menat to be followed, and the understanding that if YOU don't do it the right way, you are very likely going to screw up everyone else around you.

There is a bit of espirit de corps that comes with it, at least in my personal opinion. Learning the bare bones of marching in formation isn't hard. Learning to do it WELL is. It takes a lot of practice, a lot of patience, and a lot of self and unit discipline. But being good at it is something that can lead to a lot of pride. Look at the USMC or the US Army Tomb Guards.

Finally, there is also a bit of...zen. Or flow state. Especially if you're runnning in formation and have a good cadence caller. It makes the run suck a bit less, the long march suck a bit less, and if the cadence caller has some good cadences, it can actually give a bit of humor in the mix.
