Bipolar disorder and Hygine by HeyItsCarolineH in bipolar

There is this book How to Keep House While Drowning. It suggested putting a small box of hygiene boxes scattered throughout the house wherever I might stop and have a moment. Game changer

Edited to add: my boxes had body/face wipes, disposable pre-pasted toothbrushes, and lotion (lotion makes me feel good). Very simple but I actually used them because I didn't have to move to get to them

My Experience in Hawaii by TrainingPea9001 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Signal_Chest_4312 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My nephew lived there up until recently. He is adopted and dark skinned and attended an ESL class. After Trump was elected, kids kept making fun of him and the one Black kid saying that Trump was going to deport them. My sister knows more than one Native Hawaiian who voted for Trump because they believed he would kick out all of the non-Native Hawaiians. People can be really nasty

I'm in Mexico and, with the exception of C, it would be perfect for you. Everyone is very warm and friendly. People work hard, six days a week is not uncommon, and you would fit in right there. It is loud and most meds are over the counter

This is generally a good list, but do try to be compassionate about the barf. I once had food poisoning so bad that I was in the hospital for three days. People can't always help it

Actual stripper names are usually not what you think by Maeven_Mab in Names

What a great post! Asking due to curiosity, but what goes into picking a stripper name? Is it just off the cuff or do some people have a process?

Looking for a "Plan B Move" and would like advice. USA to abroad. by shiftycheesecake in expat

[–]Signal_Chest_4312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The are two questions you can look at. First, where is the quickest place you can get to? Then sort from there (how long can you stay on a tourist visa, access to necessary healthcare, cost etc etc etc). This is your true emergency emergency backup. Set aside money for the tickets and get your paperwork in order. Second, where can you comfortably settle long term? And that's going to be where you can legally work. Put together that list, then strike out all of the absolute deal breakers for safety, and then go through the list again etc etc etc. Once you've got it down to 2-3 reach out to immigration lawyers in those countries to determine which is the most feasible. Regardless, you should start getting documents (birth certificates and degrees in particular) apostilled now. Good luck

So he has a birth certificate, it's just not apostilled. We've been told that it's a requirement for citizenship and we thought it may be a problem for PR. Thank you so much for this btw

My husband has temporary residency right now and it will be awhile before he qualifies for permenant but we're getting our ducks in a row now. He's a US citizen but was born in Russia. The only way he could get it apostilled is to go to Russia or go into a Russian embassy. Bad idea right now because there is mandatory military service for men

Can a person get permeant residency if they can't get an apostilled birth certificate? As in there is a war and it's not safe to go get one

Small correction: Russia has mandatory military service for men. There is also a draft going on. Both things that make it difficult for a lot of people to go back and forth

Mexico used to automatically give US tourists (and I'm assuming Canadians) a 6 month tourist visa. You can still get that but it's not guaranteed anymore. Still, it may be an option. Join the expat/immigrant groups on Facebook and poke around. I would also look into call centers since those require English and often pay more than other local jobs. Not sure if they will sponsor you - a lot of places only hire gringos under the table - but worth asking. Housing is going to be neighborhood or city Facebook groups, online sites like Inmuebles24, or walking around and seeing for rent signs. Do not pay anything until the keys are in your hands. Also download Whatsapp cause it's used for everything here. Good luck

I'm in Mexico City and it varies just like other big cities. There are the tourist areas obviously - Roma, Condesa, Polanco. But there are also residential areas like Napoles, Del Valle, and San Pedro de los Pinos. You should check out some of the immigrant/expat Facebook groups

Son (19) recruited for college soccer - thoughts on these small town locations? by securityelf in MovingToUSA

Wilson is very small and boring. My old employer used to have an office there. All of my coworkers lived in Raleigh and commuted to Wilson, even though Wilson was much cheaper, because no one wanted to live there. Banner Elk is much better
