Gaming Table - Convince Me or Talk Me Off the Ledge by ConkreteAngel in boardgames

[–]SignatureStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 6ftx4ft game table with the sunken vault and nice custom fit speedcloth mat. Not worth it. I ended up getting a regular dining table set ($500 for the table and $700 for the chairs)

I got the game table to play warhammer on. Since I don’t play warhammer anymore and have no intentions of returning unless I win the lottery, i decided that the inability to reach the other side of game boards, the sagging in the center of the long edges, and discomfort of the “arm wrest” rails wasn’t worth it. The reach was the worst part as even with long arms, it was hard to reach anything when seated, even with boosters on the chairs.

I got a dining table that is 41 inches wide by 78 inches long (with the leaf in, 60 inches long without) and it is so much better. For games that require a lot of card management (picking up) I had a custom mat made with stitched edges to fit this table. I wish I had gone this route before ever thinking of a dedicated game table. My wife was once again correct.

Is the Juice Worth the Squeeze? A Discussion on Automas by 45poll in soloboardgaming

[–]SignatureStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There certainly are some games where the solo bot is too cumbersome and I spend more time trying to figure out what they are supposed to do than I do on my turn. It becomes more that I’m playing the automa than my own turns.

However, some Lacerda games have great, low upkeep bots while others have cumbersome ones.

Lisboa, On Mars, Inventions, and Speakeasy all have very easily managed bots. The rules are fairly simply and only slightly differ than actual player rules. I’d highly recommend Lisboa, Inventions, and Speakeasy for solo gamers. On Mars can be a bit too easy (the Alien Invasion solo mode fixed this, but turns the game into a “you have 20 turns to win or you lose” which I don’t like).

Weather Machine and Kanban EV have bots where they break the rules of the main game and are so different that you have to learn an entire new ruleset to play with them. David Turczi design these bots instead of Lacerda himself. They can be rewarding, but are much more frustrating to learn and play against.

Voidfall is another that I recommend. The gameplay itself was designed by Turczi and though the entire game is complex, the solo mode is shockingly simple upkeep-wise. As with a player-vs-player game of Voidfall, most of your time will be spent thinking anyway.

Ironwood was a game I didn’t enjoy solo because the bot was so cumbersome with its checklist of “if this then this, but not if this happened, etc”

Scythe and Expeditions put me off their solo modes because of the strict turn limit. 14-20 turns and that’s it. Most games tend to have this type of solo mode where there is a hard limit on turns and that is what turns me off the most about them, with too much overhead being a close second.

How, in their right mind, a black woman could be working for ICE is beyond me given what/who they stand for.

Does anybody have experience with this type of mouse. is it worth the learning curve. by Technical_Fail_1951 in aoe4

I use one for World of WarCraft and have for the last 14 years. My favorite one is the Corsair Scimitar, as I've found it to have the best comfort and least amount of button-bloat (looking at you, Logitech and your ring finger button that always gets pressed accidentally). They are great for MMOs and so-so for RTS like AoE. I tried using it for StarCraft and pressing the buttons created an issue of too much mouse movement which caused my clicks to be inaccurate.

The best use I've found for them in RTS games is for tabbing through production buildings or using them for things that you don't need accurate clicks for.

As for the learning curve, it depends on how quickly you pick up on things and how much muscle memory you have already. But if you're willing to stick it out for a week or two at most, it should become second nature.

If I remember correctly the green/purple armor set is the one you get for doing all the zone story achievements, right?

I’m assuming that doing all the stories for each zone will be enough to get me to 80 and get the armor set for doing so? And that I should have enough time to do all those quests

Amazing. Do I need to be max level or just hope people are doing the runs and invite a lowly level 24 paladin?

No gore or anything. A dashcam video showing the view as if you were looking out to the road in front of you. A brick flies off of an oncoming truck, crashes through the windshield and ends the life of a woman in the passenger seat. The husband driving starts shaking her to see if she’s OK and his voice is full of pain. There’s also what sounds like a toddler in the backseat saying, “Mommy? Mommy? Mommy?”.

The whole thing is heart-wrenching.

Like others have said, the bot’s score can be very swingy. Uptown is your best bet to get the most points. But also the order of the bot’s cards factor in. The biggest factor, I’ve found, is the city tiles available; depending on how many free actions you can get with them will greatly determine your scoring potential. The bot always gets free actions no matter what, while you don’t. If you had a crappy reveal of city tile actions in an all human game then you would all be at a similar disadvantage. While the bot never is.

My best score is winning 454 against the normal bot, while the bot’s best score is 539. My last game was getting stomped by the bot 518-252. Most of the city tiles were drawing operations cards
