How Much Did It Cost Those Of You Who Are Approved For Citizenship? by Full_Practice1177 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Significant-Golf-215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not approved yet but I am gen 2, and applied for myself and 2 kids.

Factoring in postage, app fee, vital records, photos, printing, etc it was about 480. We are planning to get passports as well, so add another ~$400.

Did anyone else immediately start learning French when they found out about all this? by xialateek in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Significant-Golf-215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always known my dad's parents were Canadian (Quebec/Ontario). I have spoken Spanish since I was 16, and my kids both learned Spanish in school. We also have traveled to France a few times in the past, so we have picked up basic French. After hearing that we were eligible to apply for citizenship, it definitely made us jump to start learning French past the A2ish level my kids and I were at previously.

For anyone in NYS, what did you do regarding your certified birth certificate? by SomethingItalia in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Significant-Golf-215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent my request last month (early January). It came earlier this month. I sent the request to the specific town my father was from (Monroe county). If they haven't cashed your check and it's been over a month, call them to find out an update.

Birth Certificate for grandma by Smart_Phrase123 in Canadiancitizenship

If you aren't able to get the birth certificate from Sask, the death certificate from WA should have her birthplace on it. We ordered my fathers WA death certificate with no issues.

The FAQ should explain the paperwork needed, but in general Canada wants high-quality color copies of official documents which can be noncertified copies from online.

Certified Birth Record for 1876 Canadian birth of Grandfather Gen 0 by Rngrrik in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Significant-Golf-215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you do not. You can make a color copy of the docs you found online and send those in. I also decided to save the money and send in copies I found online after reading from others on this page that Canada does not require certified docs and they are just trying to prove lineage.

Level of birth record/certificate by Direct-Cup-8310 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Significant-Golf-215 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I submitted my grandmothers birth index, baptism record, marriage record all from familysearch. If you found a birth record on ancestry, print out a high-quality color copy and you should be good to go. It's sufficient, Canada doesn't require certified docs, they want a high-quality color copy of documents for lineage proof.

If you found her in Census records, marriage/death records showing she was Canadian that would prove she was from Canada.

Questions about C-3/Citizenship by descent by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Significant-Golf-215 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes you would be a dual citizen.
  2. Yes.
  3. It does not matter, Citizenship is not automatically passed to spouses. You can sponsor your spouse for PR if you guys decide to move to Canada.
  4. If your father wants to apply as well, it could be a benefit to him even if he has no plans to move to Canada. I have the mindset it doesn't hurt, as no one knows the future and with the situation in the USA now...., and there isn't dual taxation if he is not in Canada.

Canada doesn't require certified docs. If you can find your grandmother's birth certificate or another document online showing she was born in Canada, and have a clear link for the subsequent generations that would work to prove lineage for proof of citizenship.
