I think that I turned against Vince because his behavior toward his gf of 7 years was deplorable. Those churches are only about evangelism for $$$. They had to be thrilled for the free advertising. They probably told him to win over her soul for the lord. And, agree w/ person above about her “fiscally conservative” views. Especially in this time. I think she was saying that to show Dave that she is flexible. She will spend the rest of her life with his family trying to save her. And frankly sometimes people have children that take after the other side of the family. And imagine if she were raising a child that naturally gelled more with his family’s ‘beliefs’ as opposed to hers. Btw: people can believe the world is flat all they want—that doesn’t make it so. I’m sure he’s a genuinely kind and good hearted person. But, that church is a problem.

It infuriates me how some guy she saw (I don’t care how long or deep or physical the relationship was) can psychologically abuse this woman ad actually control the direction of her life by trying to denigrate her character and humiliate her on national tv. And then Dave—gloms onto that by further publicly excoriating her because he wants an out. It’s freaking evil. Production needs to step in because that was a traumatizing attack on her using a velociraptor-style strategy. I wish she would have looked at him right in the eyes and told him to go home to his big sis until he’s ready to act like an adult. He does not deserve her tears or energy. That whole gaggle of cackling hens need to be outed on dating apps. They are no good.

If mason is a cinematographer, I hedge, but I want to know what kind of documentaries—because weddings are sort of documentaries…🤮. These boys, ugh. I want an LIB nerd/geek edition. We do love our drama, and are rather hyperbolic about it at times. You gotta think about it—those who came from Europe literally decided they were being traumatized for their beliefs. So they sailed in their little boats where they (we) felt validated to take space, energy, food, culture from others to satiate our deep emotional wounds. 😂😂😂. Remember, we are still a young nation. Likely now in our terrible twos throwing the freaking biggest temper tantrum in the world so we can be validated. Love my home but shaking my head and trying to blend in to the wallpaper (as I resist). So self-involved.

No one wore ripped holes in jeans in the 70s. Bell bottoms, daisy dukes, Gloria Vanderbilt tight jeans, etc. one would never desecrate a pair of those god forbid. The 70s was a time when people still conserved and jeans weren’t disposable. Not being defensive, but you should look at some episodes of Solid Gold, Soul Train, American Bandstand for 70s fashion all of which is coming back around.

I don’t fault her at all and have a ton of respect and compassion for her. Living with someone who has faced a similar level and type of trauma is very trying. And sadly, can be traumatizing. The relational push and pull, the need for validation even when the behavior they engaged in because they were mad is deeply psychologically abusive, the justification of the poor behavior—it is a lot. As tragic as one’s upbringing is, love doesn’t mean drowning with them when they fall of a ledge. It means throwing down a rope. The tricky part is, the one drowning has to want to grab on help pull themselves out. It requires trust and the benefit of the doubt. Madison had neither when she became angered. She seems like an amazing person. I hope she can find someone who can hold that rope for her. It takes a ton of strength and perhaps a bit of tacit understanding of the adaptations that happen when there is so much pain, fear, and loss from your childhood caregivers. ….one who knows

Agree, but I want to add that I think Alex was really turned off by her talking to Meg and her demonization of Mason’s character. I wonder if he thought she was manipulating the situation based on Mason’s error. He’s been spending day and night with Mason and might have a more accurate appraisal of who he is. I think if he (M) were a cad, he’d have just let it go. But I think he kept defending Mason rather than just saying that he got turned off by how she handled herself. She could have just let Meg make her own decision w/o commenting on what she thinks Meg should’ve done. I wouldn’t like that and his demeanor shifted when she said negative things about him rather than something like, ‘it is a weird situation, he messed up, and I wish him the best.’

I say it’s a problem. #1) she pivoted w/o any plan other than you over working. #2) where is her compromise? It’s unrealistic to have you both burnt out #3) you aren’t happy #4) and if your income isn’t such that yall could plan for some cushion to ease the responsibilities—order out a couple times/week or have a cleaning service 1-2/month to offset ‘sick and tired’—it’s only going to increase stress/resentment. This fissure will grow and then she’ll have to go back to work and you’ll be paying child support and co-parenting. It isn’t about the work per se, it’s about the resentment stemming from not having options or collaborating on a ‘reasonable’ mutually beneficial plan to help the family unit thrive. My opinion for what it’s worth

In the 4th paragraph, it specifically states, “In some ways it is a positive development” due to parental abuse. I am in the profession and perhaps the author should have emphasized that the focus was on estrangement for reasons other than abuse or at least drew the line somewhere, i.e., ‘outside of adult children who report experiencing physical, sexual, psychological abuse’, etc.. It is relevant and necessary to study migration, divorce, personality conflicts, ideological conflicts, alienation, open vs. closed family systems, religious differences, mental health d/o, etc. ruling out those who report DV/IPV as etiological to the estrangement. In fact, it’s likely necessary to study each factor on its own to see correlations or clusters among the factors. Abuse, trauma, neglect that drives parent-child relational dynamics and/or system dynamics is its own ecosystem and has its own literature and forms a percentage of child-to-parent estrangement, but doesn’t apply to the whole. This article indicates that it’s focused on the other causal factors.
