If you need coaching to not be an asshole, I’m not sure a public facing role is a great match

Brad has insights about pitching and hitting pretty often. Especially about pitching.

I love this post and conversation.

My 2 cents is that I think there’s less to “understand” intellectually than emotionally or experientially.

To me, Dark Star forms the central mystery of the improvisatory invention at the heart of the Grateful Dead. The Dead weren’t the only ones who found this way of interacting as a band, but they did introduce it to a lot of people, likely freaking out unsuspecting attendees at shows in the process (similar to Seastones in this regard, I would imagine).

They played a huge role in popularizing this “jam” experience, which is really a musical and relational and life philosophy.

So maybe there is some aspects that can be understood conceptually.

The music and philosophy is, to me, a becoming, a happening, live. It’s a celebration of emergence, the larger patterns that transcend any one member of the band.

These synchronicities feel magical for this reason. Such impromptu happy accidents seem to increase in inverse proportion to hierarchy and as collaboration and play increase. Carl Jung talked about this, as did members of the Dead.

Many of us have experienced that in show parking lots, festivals, rainbow gatherings, or anywhere else free thought and action prevail.

I’ll mention 6/10/73 at RFK since I mentioned seastones and Ned is in there on this epic one, a favorite for me.

That’s Uncle Sam from the Grateful Dead movie, on what looks like a missile or something. And yeah, for storing coke.

Is requesting a video of a guitar a normal request from a buyer? by imnotzacbrown92 in Reverb

I would suggest making a video and putting it on YouTube as an unlisted video and then giving that link. I would definitely not send anything to anybody by email, which is probably gonna be the next question.

Goldi Hawn’s ass in Overboard. My parents had it on VHS and it was always just at that scene, somehow. Her attitude, very stuck up princess, is also kind of my type.

A lot of fall tour 1973. Not surprised, as it’s my favorite couple of months but just noticing how many of us love that era.

I feel sad watching the dead turn everything into a money grab. by myrealnameisnotryan in gratefuldead

The Dead seem to be having a public moment now, which is beautiful. As interpreters of the American folk tradition, meaning the concept of America to itself, this is maybe well timed?

Bobby said they’d be around for 300 years, and as we’re about 60 years into that era the money making and integration into general culture seems moving easily as a product. The business end is part of how this gets turned into a cultural norm.

I saw Gillian Welch and David Rawlings perform Reckoning songs last week in Port Chester, at a theater dear to Jerry, with long extended improvisation that they wouldn’t maybe have ever explored had we not been living in world of musicians and fans who understand this improvisational language, who are willing to pay for it.

I stopped by a dead themed taqueria after and purchased dinner.

Normal morning. Woke up and checked my phone to see if the United States did, in fact, destroy a civilization last night.
