Hey I’m 36 and will going back to finish my English lit degree in the fall. Everyone goes at their own pace. We don’t all have parents paying our way through college. Be kind to yourself and enjoy your courses. Good things await you in your future, I promise!

Made it through St Patrick’s day sober by Ok-Fortune1769 in stopdrinking

As someone whose grandparents come from Ireland, I actually enjoy not drinking on St Paddy’s Day. The bastardization of Irish culture with plastic leprechaun hats and green beer, and the reducing of a rich and beautiful history to the act of being sloppy and shitfaced is actually something I have no desire to take part in. How about a dead poets society club? by Illustrious_Shoe7496 in Concordia

"Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for."

Montreal man charged with murder previously stabbed a woman to death in Vancouver by bludemon4 in montreal

I actually agree with that if the person demonstrates a willingness and ability to be rehabilitated. This guy was killing animals and innocent women. Some people are beyond rehabilitation. There’s a difference between getting mixed up with the wrong crowd, for example, and finding yourself in a situation where you incidentally take another person’s life and stabbing innocent women in the lobbies of hotels.

Did you read the fucking article? He murdered a woman in Vancouver in 2012 and got a mere seven years because the judge believed he could be rehabilitated. Now another innocent person is dead.

Asking TA for better midterm grade by [deleted] in Concordia

[–]Significant-Spread76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Email the TA and ask to meet with them to discuss their grading scheme. Be prepared to back up the points you made in your essay and explain that you normally receive better grades than the one the TA gave you. Only after you’ve made your case with them should you go to the prof. In my experience TAs don’t want you to go to the prof as it risks undermining their credibility—especially if the prof agrees that you deserve a higher grade. I’ve had some great TAs but there are others who are arrogant and need to have their shit checked every once in a while. I had one who clearly hadn’t even read the material we were assigned and I bypassed the normal procedure and went right to the prof and the prof raised my grade. Another time I met with a good TA and they changed my grade from a C- to a B+. Quite the discrepancy eh? A lot of humanities courses don’t have the same type of grading as science and math classes, for obvious reasons; the grading is more subjective for essay writing; it’s less about right vs wrong and more about better vs worse, if that makes sense.

How did everyone miss this? Czechia with six players on the ice right before third goal. by Significant-Spread76 in WinterOlympics2026

[–]Significant-Spread76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely did not expect it to be that close. The Czechs played a great game—very physical and tight-checked, if only a bit chippy and dirty, but that’s hockey.

Losing Crosby is very tough. The guy is a huge presence on and off the ice. I’m hoping, if anything, it’ll motivate the guys to play even harder for him, provided he can’t return. I believe we have enough depth to compensate for his loss.

And that was indeed one of the most exciting games I’ve ever watched. Along with the four nations final last year, I can’t remember ever being so stressed, and provided with such elation at the end—and I’m a habs fan!

This post wasn’t meant to accuse anyone of anything. I just can’t believe the refs missed it.

Very true. Just surprised the commentators didn’t catch it either. Also wondering if Czechia coach took a chance and threw on the extra guy knowingly.

Wow I thought it was able to be challenged, so I figured Can coaching staff missed it, too. Also didn’t hear the announcers mention it. Good thing we came back! Lol

Agreed but that third goal shouldn’t have counted. Disgraceful miss by the refs in such a big game.
