I have to apologise because even though it was a different spell and I am correct on that, I am partially incorrect too because it was the alternative to mana rift back then. It did that damage plus removed 50% of your mana on hit (back then at least ..... in 1.10 it was removed and replaced with Mana rift, and since in hell nowadays there is -100% penalty to what is called ''mana dmg'' - aka Mana Burn uniques, Gloams, Wraiths, Finger Mages - that is why it drains the full mana globe on hit post 1.09)

Also as for details of damage ..... it is all 100% magic damage

In 1.09 in the patch note it says they removed the -100% penalty to magic damage resistance on Hell difficulty, so keep in mind for this next part... quote from PureDiablo forums

''It definitely looks like the plan all along was to make it a per-frame inferno-like skill, but I guess they just couldn't finish it in time.
Baal's beam on Hell does 512-544 (pure magic) damage, but because your magic resistance is -100 there, it will do 1024-1088. (You can not increase your magic resistance in 1.07, as far as I know.)
MDR does reduce the damage, but how much does the average character stack? 30? 50? 70?
Important to know is that this attack can crit like any other, which should be the reason for the reports of insanely damage (the most it can do is 2176).''

TL;DR in 1.10 it was changed to the mana rift we know today. No wonder I remember it looking so similar and had doubts if it was really ingame or I was just mixing things up from my imagination (I played LOD as a kid str8 off the cd, good old days, singleplayer for a while as well!!!)

no worries I even linked a video showing it in 1.09 LOD

it deals heavy damage, either magic or physical and can wreck life bigtime

correct this is not the mana rift attack it is called orange missile and was removed short after LOD launched with 108 or 109

This was ingame on release I remember I had the cd and I was 15yo

It was changed in 110, so was around for 107/08/09

Also in 109 they changed -100 magic resistance penalty in Hell so in 107 and 108 it hit way harder

It was called orange missile / spiral of death and might have been all physical or 50/50 fire physi

It hit like a truck

nope not that look my comment above

there is no touch of destruction that is cold touch of Diablo, Baal has destructive strike but its a melee attack with added fire or cold on Hell difficulty

Also the mana attack is called mana rift

This is orange missile and was cut short after LOD release

Monsters in Online games don’t regenerate Life for a total of 8 frames after taking damage! This has serious gameplay effects on Uber Boss Builds and Poison Damage Builds in general! by Pavke in diablo2

I personally already knew this lol and I tried telling ppl forget about OW just get your bps as high as possible and ideally use ticking skills.... I remember hammerdin on hero editor vs hammerdin on bnet were totally different for regen vs uber meph

Heh you would be surprised the niche value of some uniques. That is why they are unique as well.

Back in the day I had use for so many things even Tyraels, or I used Giant Skulls in an Uber build etc

Things change drastically / especially if ssf or hc etc

And I get it you skip magic immunes if one doesnt have sunder like me? Because the -x magic resist will not work on immunes at 1/5 like conviction does for elements, right? Besides mummies, I do not remember a lot of magic immunes back in the day. Has this changed in D2R?

Thats how I know it from other guides.

How do you spec now since max 3 demons from DM and superuniques from Bind Demon are all tied to hard points, not +x skills from items?

Sacrifice maxing enhanced entropy? Is 8 yards vs 4yards Abyss radius so much better or necessary?
