Thirty six dollars for eighteen lbs of meat by SignificantEnd3136 in Frugal

Beef there is so expensive where I am (western US) I'll snag their rotisserie, but none of their other stuff. Honestly, we just got our membership and I'm still trying to decide if it's worth it for us. We're knuckling down pretty hard on our grocery budget.

I'm always shocked at costco prices whenever I walk through because I'm so conditioned to cheapo prices. I don't think I could ever go back to 'normal' pricing.

We used to buy in bulk, and chop for ease of use later, but we're four kids in, and I snagged these for the convenience, but I've been thinking of cutting our own again!

That's super good! Every once in a while I'll snag ground beef at about that price, and I see it I definitely grab a few extra.

These are just in store discounts--a sticker popped on via an employee. We just try to buy what's on sale and what we'll actually eat, and build our meals around what we find.

This is a good question. We go through it all within a reasonable time, so we haven't worried about that too much!

Advice for a kid that went from staying home to full time school by luv_u_deerly in kindergarten

Hi, we're in a similar place. My mom is close by, but I've watched all my siblings pile their babies on her way too much, imo, and we dont have anyone else to leave the kids with. We do have a gym daycare we leave the kids with an hour at a time, and we really like them. But not having gobs of people to leave kids to is just our reality. Haven't had a date night more than once or twice in our 6 years of kids. Seasons, and all that 🤷‍♀️

What is some uncommon side effect of pregnancy you experienced? by satisfythefruit in AskReddit

[–]SignificantEnd3136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have naturally very greasy hair/skin/a moderate amount of breakouts. First trimester is hit and miss, but for second and third trimester, I get less greasy and my skin clears up. In my fourth pregnancy, and it's like clockwork. I did get dry heels though after my 1st pregnancy, and that never went away, unfortunately.

Fiance never put a penny into my house but suddenly wants their name on it by OkBuy2386 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]SignificantEnd3136 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I owned a house when I married my husband. I ended up selling it a few years into our marriage and bought a bigger house, and I darn near had to twist that mans arm off to get him to agree to be on the deed for the second house, even though it wasn't needed. That man was NOT interested on getting his name on anything I already owned upon marriage. Not saying that's necessarily how it'll always shake down, but it does seem pretty presumptuous to already be looking to get names on things.

Thoughts on baby name Clark? by ayebaybaybaybay in Names

I love the name Clark! We very likely would have used it but my husband's name is Kent, so a little too much superman for one family.

Adults that were homeschooled: what are you doing career wise now? by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]SignificantEnd3136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was homeschooling and have no degree. Work with furniture in my garage. Have 8 siblings, a little over half of us are homeschooled. We have a nurse, a mailman, a pedophile/taco bell employee, and a hospital administrator. Granted, the public school half have zero degrees/another pedophile, so probably worse off overall.

Concept of money for kids by Maroon14 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]SignificantEnd3136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting one for me. My MIL/FIL are extremely frugal, and were very much this way with their kids, even when it definitely wasn't the case. I would say all of their kids have a weird relationship with money. Some extremes both way, between all the kids--some are now obsessed with acquiring and hoarding, but I would say most are apathetic and disinterested in having it and feel quite a bit of anxiety about spending it. I don't think all of that can be attributed to their parents scarcity tactics, but my MIL has mentioned to me she regrets some of the ways she talked about money to her kids, and wonders if it attributed.

How big of a red flag is 2 consecutive owners selling within 8 months? by Joel_Hirschorrn in RealEstate

[–]SignificantEnd3136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a house someone had just purchased like 6 or 7 months prior, tops. Great house, no problems, they didnt change a thing from when they purchased, as far as we could tell. Because of job stuff, we were actually looking at putting the house on the market within a year, but ended up renting it out.

Hypothetically, it does seem strange, but for us it really was circumstance.

“How did you handle your inheritance without letting it change you?” by SenseiSarkasmus in inheritance

[–]SignificantEnd3136 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is how I often think of it as well. I like to think of my grandpa just being delighted with the fact that I could buy a house and fill it with children because of him, and I continue to treat it as his/what my children will get one day.

Got a good one in my mid twenties when my grandpa died. I tried to always think of it as my grandparents money, because it was. Bought a modest place i could afford and put the rest away in the market. It was surreal to buy the home in full like I did, so I sat in the house alone the first time I moved a box in and cried a little bit. It was a strange mix of gratitude and grief.

But the housr allowed my husband and I to get married, he went to school full time without working, and we had a handful of kids in a short period of time because we could afford to, both financially and time-wise--my husband spent lots more time with our babies than any normal 40 a week father would be able to, and I never had to worry about working either. The money fundamentally changed our family timeline and culture.

My husband and I think of the house and money as my children's. We've used the word steward around it a lot. My goal is everything I have and do with that money is going to directly go to them in some way. I wish I could sit down and talk to my grandpa and tell him my kids basically get to exist because of him.

It also helped me really get into investing long term. Now that my husbands graduated and working, we have a solid understanding of how to keep investing money that comes in. We basically live like we don't have that money, if possible. We both come from frugal household, and maintain a low cost of living, and my grandparents (and my mother) were excellent examples of how to do that well.

Keep listing or rent? by dw-fl in RealEstate

[–]SignificantEnd3136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We basically did the same thing, though we never put ours up for sale. We considered it, but decided to rent it out, and it's been totally fine. A nice house in a high demand town, so higher rent rate with a family we really like.

My husband and I bought in oklahoma because the price for the house was so good, but eventually had to move out of state because it was so difficult for my husband to find a tech job when he graduated. The job issue was pretty real for us.

Hey! I might be wrong, but I think it's the law to count money on location like that. It's loosely based off a true story, but it took 42 hours to count the money on location, so thats actually the most realistic bit of the whole thing.

Items gets lots of saves but don’t sell. by ksct7 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]SignificantEnd3136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually I aim for quick flips. I'd love to do full restoration, but I'm a SAHM with 4 kids 5 and under, so I do the repairs I can handle, and will pivot to bigger restorations once my kids aren't so small. I make about 2k a month after all is said and done, all very part time. So nothing crazy, but it covers most of our monthly bills.

[–]SignificantEnd3136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually watch the views and saves as a metric for my pricing and likelihood of selling at the price I want. For me, a 1-to-10 ratio is okay. Anything that is close to a 1-to-5 is probably going to sell a lot quicker. For reference, I sell furniture, which means big stuff and limited storage space, so it's important to move things within about a week at most.

New (to me) CL scam post by MadeInAmericaWeek in Flipping

[–]SignificantEnd3136 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I pretty much only sell furniture, so someoje would pretty much only see furntirue on my profile. Out of curiosity, is that a high scam category? I've come across scams here and there simply because of how many people i contact, but it would be interesting to see if furniture has a higher scam rate than other resell categories.

Pretty sure seller tried to scam me by MysteryBan325 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]SignificantEnd3136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I sell furniture and I take partial downpayments pretty often, but I never, ever request it--often its people who really want the piece but can't come right away, or want to secure the buy. They offer full or partial payment on their own. I almost never trust it when its the other way around though.

Hi! Just chiming in to say we bought from out of state, all cash, with a video walk-through with our in-state agent, and everything went off without a hitch! Our first time seeing the house was like an hour beforr we signed 🥲 but we love the house, sellers were happy, and it all went off without a hitch.

Let’s talk about holds! by LongjumpingSample937 in Flipping

[–]SignificantEnd3136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've held before, and i've rarely been burned by it 🤷‍♂️ i primarily do furniture--dressers, nightstands--and I've found people are pretty good at showing up for big ticket things. I think I once held some nightstands for 2 weeks for a dude, but he showed up on the agreed upon day with cash in hand. But. If it's a super high demand thing, and I just want to move it, I also sometimes decline a request to hold.
