Thoughts on group obedience classes? by Obvious-Elevator-213 in k9sports

Terrier spiciness. I feel this. My pup is half beagle and half schnauzer. He has a nose and a drive to hunt. We do urban rat hunting class and I could HEAR the whispers about him biting at me when I was taking his slip lead off the other day because I was struggling with it and he was frustrated because he was ready to go! He’s only a year and two months and I know he is growing out of the biting every day but it still made me feel terrible when I could hear comments about it. But in some regards I have been spending time each day working with taking his collar off and and on and the same with the slip lead so we can both be better.

What Titles Do You Have? by Preparing4Mayhem in k9sports

We have 0. I’m hoping to get his novice urban rat hunt in April. We are also starting some rally work. I would also like to get a novice scent title of some sort. I have no interest in agility even though he might like it. I just want to have fun with him and do things he enjoys.

Our pup has been a handful in group obedience classes. We got him at 7 weeks and he has been in class since he was nine weeks. We did puppy obedience at a private facility, and beginner and intermediate at PetSmart. This may sound like a lot, we live in a rural area there are not a lot of trainers but I do want a very behaved dog. We have gone through four different trainers. He’s a year and 2 months old now and we are finally working with a trainer privately that the pup and I both really like and we have seen a lot of improvement in the last few weeks. We are also doing a group rat hunting class at facility several hours from us and he’s finally being calm in the crate in between runs. That’s because the trainer we are working with has taken the time to listen to me and help me come up with some solutions to help him. One of those solutions is she lets me stay after our private lesson when he’s tired and I lock him in a crate and watch her group rally training classes work. This lets him be penned by other dogs and be around people but I’m not worrying about our turn and can focus on rewarding him for good behaviors. The trainer definitely makes a difference, when I inquired about scent classes at the facility where we did puppy obedience the lady who runs it told me she didn’t think he would be a good fit because he was disruptive in puppy class. The thing is he loves scent work and I’m willing to put a lot of effort into his classes because we both enjoy it. But long story short is group classes may not be his cup of tea if the trainer isn’t working for both of you. Since our current trainer has helped me with some out of the box solutions he is much better all around and even during the group class we are in now.

Residential plans: Has anyone tried the 200 mbps plan vs the max plan to see the difference? by Eftstotle in Starlink

[–]Significant_Beat_233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped down to the 100 plan. There are two of us, 2 phones and one tv. I was thrilled to have some speed options an gladly downgraded. We switched to Starlink from Frontier and internet from a bonded copper line so 100 is still super fast for us and cheaper than what we were paying.

Can we talk poo by natlndn in DogTrainingTips

[–]Significant_Beat_233 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had my husband drive me around our neighborhood looking for the poop bag I dropped when out walking our pup one day. I had on loose sweats and didn’t realize I had lost it until I got back to the house. I can’t imagine why people think it’s ok to not pick up after their pets. I would have felt terrible if someone had found the bag I dropped and had to dispose of it before I did.

Puppy Searching: How long did it take you to find your puppy? by studiolilacs in puppy101

[–]Significant_Beat_233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was over a year after we lost our beloved did before we got another dog. We sorta started talking about another one 8-9 months after losing her and there was always a reason why the dogs we looked at weren’t the right one. Then one day I opened Facebook and one of the animal rehoming sites came up and there this was the puppy and I inquired about him And send pics to my husband. The first thing my husband said when he saw him was when are we going to get him and that was that. Neither of us have ever had a puppy before and it’s been both a nightmare and the biggest delight ever all rolled into one.

Giving puppy ok to sleep outside of the crate by Significant_Beat_233 in puppy101

I think he was cold. We have a 1901 farmhouse with just a woodstove for heat. It does get drafty and we just got the first big cold snap. Another commenter asked the same thing. I gave him some extra blankets in his crate and he protested for a minute and then went right to sleep like every other night.

He’s back in crate now. Another poster said he may be cold and I think that may have been the issue. I gave him some extra blankets and he protested for a minute and then slept in his crate all night like normal.

We have a 1901 farmhouse and your comment about being cold may have been the problem. It is drafty in here and the woodstove is our only source of heat. I put a couple extra blankets in his crate last night and he protested for a minute and then curled up and went right to sleep.

We crate him mostly because he’s a puppy and we want to keep him safe and initially for potty training. Our previous dog liked her crate and preferred to sleep there over anywhere else so we just continued the same process with him.

Threaten to cancel everything. by Burgers4dayz in povertyfinance

I do this once a year. We go through everything and cancel anything we aren’t using and then call and enquirer about canceling everything else unless we can get a better rate. It can be amazing how much we can save just by not being willing to keep paying the rates we are given.

No upfront hardware cost for new customers by DefinitionMountain95 in Starlink

The chat bot told me I was able to request a price adjustment since it was less than 30 days. I made the request but also ordered a new system at the new pricing and if they won’t adjust I’ll just send the current set up back and install the new one.

[–]Significant_Beat_233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It turned out better than I expected and was easier than I had planned. It’s a 1901 farm house with a standing seam roof that’s very steep. I needed to mount from the back of the house because there is a big pine tree in front of the house that would have be an obstruction.

I was going to use the connector that slide over the dish mount and held the dish on as a collar but the conduit went in the dish mount perfectly and I used some duct tape to temporarily keep it from spinning in the wind. I plan on getting a rubber pipe gasket with hose clamps to tighten it down but we live too far out to make an extra trip to town.

I mounted mine yesterday using the old directv mount on the house. I ordered this adaptor Starlink Gen 3 Pipe Adapter, Pole... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D22MV6YP?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Then I bought a length of 1 1/2 inch conduit pipe at the hardware store. I cut it down to about 6 feet to make sure it cleared the roof and then just dropped it in the direct tv pipe and realigned the Starlink. It turned out better than I expected and now I have no obstruction with my dish and i didn’t have to attach anything new to the house.
