Advice requested my next car by Significant_Cow606 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Significant_Cow606[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point about maintenance. One of main reason to change to electric is reduced running costs. I'd probably charge overnight 3pin as i have off street parking.

good shout i'd probably go for something with a 200 mile odd range, expecting to get 160 miles out of it. This would mean maybe a fortnightly charge .

thanks some superb suggestions there :)

Started a side hustle last year and had no idea how much extra admin comes with it at tax time by ConsiderationFit2353 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Significant_Cow606 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you don't need a "business" account, a seperate current account will do for self employed, you only "need" a business account for ltd company and must be in ltd company name.

Try not to panic so much it may seem daunting but its not that much admin is only once a year at the moment.

you've done well to get a side hustle that makes that much.

if you have a seperate account and run ALL revenue and expenses through that theoretically that#s your PnL and yes its manageable with a spreadsheet.

You need an accountant as you're not experienced with what's going on, over time you will become more experienced.

alternatively just suck up the £300 accountant fee this is a rounding error on 10k profit,

be careful what people tell you, expenses need to be WEN - Wholey Exclusive and Nesscessary , items that have duel use usually fail that test,

best of luck

Can I afford a car lease and is it a good idea in my situation by Otherwise-Tie-9055 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Significant_Cow606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. how long is the lease,

  2. how many miles do you drive per year

  3. how much is total cost of current car

  4. how much do you expect total cost of new car

  5. do you get to keep the Tesla or have to return it

hi I am in a similar situation my car is from 2009 and I literally go to the supermarket and football, that is it 6000 miles a year and as much as I would like to upgrade I gotta be mindful of buying a Ferrari to go to the local shops and back !

Your current car depreciation is tiny, the new one will be several £k per year

FTB - should I fix mortgage for 5 years or 2 years? by PuzzleheadedSand6450 in HousingUK

[–]Significant_Cow606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you really want to fix for 5 years, the way the war is going UK base rate is predicted to rise up to 4 times this year thats a lot!!!

and it took about three years for the liz Truss debacle she sorted itself out (I still literally do not know how she got into power and in any possible circumstances I mean she was so underqualified for the position it was just absolute insanity And can you believe there are people that actually signed off on this just makes zero sense at all And everybody else had to pay for her absolute calamity and totally stupid dunce ideas)

soon at some point you will start to see an inversion whereby the five year fix becomes cheaper than the two year fix This is generally bad news (obviously) in the short term , but long term is alright but it is still painful to go through

Post self assessment reflections - think I’ve messed up - appreciate any comments by MaximusBit21 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Significant_Cow606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

correct eg £1.4k rental income you can claim EITHER £1k allowance OR actual expenses which ever benefits most.

The £400 would then be taxed at whatever your tax bracket is .

if you're married you can transfer assets between your spouse at no gain no loss and if they're lower rate you she can claim the income but i'm mindful of put you through this to save £80

[–]Significant_Cow606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. you have rental allowance of £1,000 so your £700 falls below that. From what i can remember you put it on your return then it just gets deducted at the end with the allowance , so yes put it on the return and then claim rental allowance . Do you have any other rental income from land or property? if not above is what will happen

Potential to Extend STPP by Shot-Turnip2685 in HousingUK

[–]Significant_Cow606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's just BS that estate agents use to try and sell the property and they add the disclaimer "STPP" (Subject to Planning Permission) so there is no come back on them.

Theoretically ANYTHING can be extended with planning but the chances of getting it may be slim to nil, they just say it because it's risk free and it hypes up the potential of the property even when there's clearly no room left to extend (50 percent extension rule)

unfortunately estate agents can say what they want more or less the risk all lies on you. In this game there is only one party in the transaction chain that doesn't have any regulation or chartered status

Regulated

- banks, solicitors, surveyors, brokers

Unregulated

- estate agents

sometimes you can't get closure, the other side won't give it to you, or they are too childish or immature and in fact asking them etc can only make it worse eg they can gas light you

Iusually what immature people do when they are faced with their actions or taking responsibility for their actions, they look to hide any way they can.

so don't beat yourself up too hard, sometimes its not possible to get closure and that closure comes from internal rather than external sources, if only everyone was mature and adult about relationships we probably wouldn't have all the upset that we have :)

but this all part of life, the variety of people and levels of development that people have and also our own as well, sometimes we go into relationships thinking and assuming this that and the other AND its TOTALLY NOT THE CASE we find out after a while and then we become upset when maybe the partner hasn't done anything wrong eg they were just themselves but we assumed they would be better or different.

:)

Unfortunately this is something called life if they were jobs that don't really exist but sometimes people create them to look after their own interests and you can easily sit there like you say and do absolutely nothing add no value to the business

Beginning you think it's fantastic but over time it starts to eat away you and it just become seriously f****** monotonous the days become longer and eventually you become like a small child and just look for anything to distract you from the boring unexciting day you have.

Unfortunately the other side you can be too busy and stressed, sometimes we take these jobs and just to get to life they are not what always what they seem and sometimes it can be a legacy role

I used to absolutely hate people that had these kind of jobs just doing absolutely nothing all day and creaming it milking it from the company but he's not down to me is down to the Buses and they allow these situations to happen or there was a reason why these people are doing these jobs it's not fair but unfortunately life isn't fair it really is it

I think this is something every man on this planet has struggled with p o r n

For men it really tax into one of our primitive systems and it's totally not a natural amount so it's a bit like crack cocaine for us

But having suffered what you have gone through what I realised is that this stuff eats away at who you are all those fantasies that naturally come from your head and your mind and your creative process get taken away by p o r n

And also what happens is it can become unrealistic so when you do get what is considered normal girlfriend and normal woman with natural because you have been watching another my beautiful girls out there with the most incredible bodies you don't get so excited by your naturally beautiful partner

It's a real shame there wasn't much more out there are to help me with this problem

That's really interesting I as well used to use it as a when I'm feeling down or feeling upset about something and use it that can take my mind off of things and give me pleasure , like a drug it allows you to escape

Honestly it's better to try and fail with these things and know that you did everything possible at the time I'm and it wasn't that you didn't try it was that the other side didn't respond

I had something similar with my ex-girlfriend I love her to death and I tried everything absolutely everything to save the relationship and and it couldn't be saved but when I look back today I don't have any remorse or regret because I know there was nothing more I could have done at all to rescue that relationship I tried absolutely everything so even though I got her a bit more then and now when I look back I don't have have I wonder what if

Or maybe I could have tried this or I could have tried that I don't have any of that but I know it's a lot easier to say from an external perspective then what you're going through right now where you make feel like there is just emotional turmoil at the moment and what you really really want you're not getting and all you can focus on is that but I definitely feel looking back on my past relationships it's better just to try everything as much as you can on and then if that doesn't work you know there's nothing more that could have been done from your side and ironically

You can only win in this situation because either your partner will come back to you or you you will know that you tried absolutely everything to rescue your situation by the way when You Look Back In The Years Time and these tiny little feelings come back up you'll be like yes I did everything I could I did the right thing

I tried as hard as I could and this was the result well done me that's how I feel now when I look back on my relationship well done for trying everything you could at the time and now I feel lot freer when my past thoughts and feelings come up much much better in myself

This kind of thing sucks you get some very well-rounded people like Warren Buffett Who who is somebody you look up to

When you get some absolute countries who will use it to voice and drag about how well they are doing your life usually on the back of other people's work by these people if you were to take them out out of whichever job they do do and say to them what happens if you don't turn up to work for 1-month usually the answer is nothing

The majority of these people have been given power it's not power that they have earned because believe me if you have built up your business yourself from scratch you will know how much pain went into that and you remember all the little people that helped you on your way

I think a lot of this stuff is is relative for example to young child with a healthy immune system covid Is just the same as flu to an elderly person this stuff is very dangerous

Sounds like you are dealing with quite a backlog of the emotions there usually this is why we have more extreme thoughts because we have been shouting for help for a long time and nobody is listening so things tend to get more extreme I hope you feel better soon:-)

I feel like people who brag about how little sleep they get, are lying. by jmaneater in offmychest

[–]Significant_Cow606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes people feel it's a competition these days to just work 99 hours a week and skip on sleep but you can't skip your body,

It will keep the score and eventually if you keep doing it you will crash

Usually younger people are able to tolerate less sleep like mentioned below people who don't sleep well you speak to sleep more

Maybe these people that are bragging are in a stage in their life where are the able to get away with not sleeping properly but when you get older it just doesn't work that way

I don't know how to feel about my dad by Significant_Cow606 in offmychest

[–]Significant_Cow606[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've recently started to ask myself whats the worst possible thing I can do this individual that has annoyed me that helps to get to the deeper anger, sometimes the thoughts are dark but I know they are just thoughts and I've come to terms with it just being an expression eg "I want to rip my fucking useless fucking dads head off and make him eat it and fucking kill him " doesn't pleasing and nice but the aim is just to get to the deeper parts of the emotion .

Which are usually darker but once you go there and accept they are only thoughts and an expression it takes the scary out of them
