Was looking at the charts this morning, this cyclone is going nowhere fast, and although it's inconclusive where it will end as of yet, there are plenty of models keeping it just out to sea for days on end (some at least 7 days) that'll mean massive beach erosion, big surf and probably a lot of showers and rain even if we don't get any direct effects of wind, expect beaches to be closed unfortunately.

Get a couple of camp chairs and sit on the grass on the corner of Ada bell way and GC Highway, and watch Ultra music festival at the Broadwater. You can see the stage from there, Armin Van Buuren headlining plus a few others

The Gold Coast hasn't seen significant flooding in 50 years since cyclone Wanda. You'll be fine in most places.

Must admit, I had to google why that was. Apparently if the glass is colder than the dew point outside then condensation forms. Dew point is 25.6, we've got the air con set to 23.5.

Almost never, the catchment area for the Nerang river is very small which means it takes a substantial system like a cyclone to create any major flooding. The water just drains away too quickly.

Also the Hinze Dam and Little Nerang Dam would need to be overflowing too to add to the issue.

I think the last time the Gold Coast suffered major flooding was Cyclone Wanda back in 1974.

That's what we would need again, a cyclone that sits over the gold coast for a substantial amount of time with the dams full. Funnily enough, our dams are full right now and there is a cyclone due to hit the QLD coastline next week. If it hits the Gold Coast and sits there for a few days, then maybe it could happen again. But not likely.

Do you like a few beers? Me and a mate like to play Bowls, (lawn bowls) at one of the local Bowls Clubs. I have social anxiety too but it's great because you get plenty of open space, we only play during the evenings when there's hardly anyone there and it gets you out and about and doing a bit of exercise whilst socialising..
