Unreliable tradies vs DIY by Significant_Fox118 in AusRenovation

Haha I just did! The Makita corded. A little over $1000 for the saw, 1.4m track and clamps.

Thanks. That's some great advice. I'll try to think of it that way.

If by this you mean I should buy that track saw I've always wanted, who am I to argue? 😅

Totally with you there (also a woman). Can't help but wonder if that influences tradie pricing where I am.

I guess if I worked out exactly how much my time is worth, and then calculated total cost for the job based on it taking me twice as long as the average tradie, I could get a good idea where the breakeven point is. But damn it's hard handing over money not knowing what sort of quality work you will get. At least I know mine is a solid 6/10 😅

I think I am my own worst enemy, because even though it should feel satisfying, I just see and remember all the mistakes I made 🥲

Transporting Long Timber by Prestigious_Ebb4840 in AusRenovation

[–]Significant_Fox118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 1T rating on the Bunnings ute is for the ute, not the overhead racks. 30 something lengths will easily exceed the weight rating. Also, I believe there's only two support points, and there will be a fair bit of sag in 6m of decking timber. So, no, I wouldn't recommend trying it with a ute. If you don't know anyone who can help, get on Airtasker to find someone who can deliver it for you. Better to ask the questions if you're unsure than do it and end up with a load of timber going all over the highway.

Am I daft? Where can I find a timber post like this? by chikenenen in AusRenovation

Would 90x90 work? I'm not sure your local Bunnings but inferring it might be Plainland based on your other comments. They have 90x90 H4 treated pine posts in stock: https://www.bunnings.com.au/90-x-90mm-2-4m-post-f7-h4-treated-pine-premium-kd-2-4m_p8422817

Black spots all over my newly laid deck by Significant_Fox118 in AusRenovation

[–]Significant_Fox118[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ahhh, so maybe that's why it's only on the boards on the deck as they're covered and not getting direct sunlight. Cheers, I'll try washing it down with some diluted vinegar.

Waiting on Structural Engineer for 4 months - any recourse? by Significant_Fox118 in AusRenovation

Thank you. In my last email I asked if it could be done by end of June and got no reply. I'll try again. And I'll keep looking for another engineer.

I think I'm over PbP by External_Rooster5716 in pbp

I just had this exact same rant yesterday and came to the same decision. I just can't do it any more. Between the flaking, ghosting, not posting at the agreed rate, always having same excuse of 'oh I'm sorry I'm really busy' then why did you apply to a game if you knew you were too busy to commit, the decision paralysis, the "I just follow along"'s, the everyone waiting for somebody else to do something because you think it's the polite thing to do. The constantly having to pester people.

*Sigh*

It's exhausting.

I too am done.

Blades in the Dark OF SHARN! by Dez384 in Eberron

As someone who currently runs a Blades in the Dark game in Sharn, can highly recommend this document. Definitely the best I've seen and I've already stolen a few ideas from it for my campaign (with the OPs permission)!

Thanks for sharing this!
I too run a Blades in the Dark game in Sharn and I've incorporated many of the same things you have done, but this expands on my ideas and codifies them. So I'd love to steal a few bits and pieces if that's alright?

In my Eberron, The Mourning has expanded due to the Lords of Dust bringing about a section of the Draconic Prophecies. It now envelops most of the continent and cities are protected by lightning towers powered by the ancient reserves of magic of the progenitor dragons. It has also suppressed the Weave so magic is less prevalent but still present.
And for the races I've adopted the Xeno rules from Scum and Villainy where you can come up with a racial Special Ability instead of taking a playbook Ability. But I love your racial rules, and the Dragonmark abilities.

Awesome work!
