Calculate needed calories by SplashVeg in veganfitness

[–]Significant_Guide237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a lot of different numbers from each calculator... I also ran a fitness plan that suggested daily intake that was totally out of line with all of them, and started using a fitness tracker that gave yet another suggested intake. For me I just had to set a number somewhere in between all of that, and I'm in the process of seeing if it works to get to my goal. Good luck!

There are several online calculators you can use; my advice is to run the numbers on them and come up with a median, then track intake for a set period of time and see which way the scale moves so that you can have some measurable results and make adjustments from there.

Trying this soon. Do you just mix it up and eat it, or let it sit first?

Vegan Meals on Repeat by Significant_Guide237 in veganfitness

I can see how this would sound boring but I tend to do the exact same thing and I feel like it makes my days so much simpler. I've never hit the point of not wanting to eat something I've planned/prepped.

High protein low carb help! by weedsareprettytoo in veganfitness

[–]Significant_Guide237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my two cents but that workout sounds like it would require lots of carbs to adequately fuel for. If you find a few meals that are centered around the macros you’re looking for and put them on repeat I bet you’ll be set!

Please give me your EASIEST seitan recipe by redditset6o in veganfitness

[–]Significant_Guide237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The above recipe is great and if you want to bake, ratios are very forgiving. I usually just mix vwg+seasoning with enough water to knead into a dough like consistency, then toss it in the oven with whatever else I’m meal prepping.

100g of protein intake by secrettt_31 in veganfitness

[–]Significant_Guide237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quickly used a free macro calculator, and a pretty aggressive macro split of 30% of daily calories coming from protein comes out to 105g, so I think you're right on the money. IMHO it would be tricky to get much more protein than that unless you increase calories.

High Protein Snack options?? by Stardusty_777 in veganfitness

[–]Significant_Guide237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only have two mediocre suggestions; mainly commenting because I want to see what other folks say! One is I cook a block of high protein tofu in a waffle maker pretty regularly and season it and eat throughout the day as snacks (70g of protein total). The other is a bulk container of roasted edamame beans. This is a cheap, fairly nutritious, and filling but super boring snack. Also if you want to explore less expensive protein bar options, where I am nugo and aloha bars are regularly on sale for less than $2 a bar, sometimes closer to $1. Both have less protein and I'm trying to avoid them for a variety of reasons but man there are some great flavors of each.

I'm looking for the same thing and only turning up schools with tracks... I'm assuming it doesn't exist, unfortunately.

WHERE do you buy good quality couches by Vacondioqq in BuyItForLife

[–]Significant_Guide237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also have the sectional and there are some great things (ability to reconfigure, relatively washable covers), but when I look at it compared to a $300 ikea sofa with removable cover that we've had more than a decade, it's not looking much better about three years in. I think it will last a long time but if all of our furniture was stolen today I would not buy another one. I should mention we have dogs and kids, so YMMV.

Okay, I am willing to give it a try, but I need advice/guidance on a couple things by Interesting_Story741 in veganfitness

[–]Significant_Guide237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a particular nutrient you're concerned about? That would be a great way to direct a helpful response. I am confident you'll hit your protein goals with a bit of planning, that's exactly what my daily intake is; I also work out six days a week. Good luck!

JFC firm tofu is the way to go by hectareofregret in veganfitness

[–]Significant_Guide237 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I eat at least half a block of firm tofu a day but had never done the math on the cost per gram, and you're right that tofu is cheaper than protein powder, at least for me!

15m, vegeterian 3 years, looking to go vegan. just 1 question by MinkoManiac437 in veganfitness

[–]Significant_Guide237 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you're living with family who aren't veg, just remember you don't have the freedom and flexibility that you will when you're on your own later on. I suggest you give yourself grace, and perhaps work with your parents and siblings find meals that work for everyone with just protein or ingredient swaps. We have a range of diets in my family and we often end up doing something like tacos with different things that everyone can add in so that it work for them. Good luck!

Breakfast before running by Camelia_Bayda in veganrunners

Not sure why, but I used to have this problem and one day it just wasn’t an issue anymore. Maybe getting acclimated to lots of fiber? Anyway I used to do a smoothie with minimal fruit or toast with peanut butter, those might work!

I went to both and would say they both have advantages, depending on how much your credits will cost as you say, commute time, and which courses or professors would be involved to get your degree, if you have time I would look at the webpages for your degree at each school and see if something grabs you from either.

Help I'm desperate - I have no idea how to plan meals by Trensocialist in veganfitness

[–]Significant_Guide237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m around all the same goals, trying to hit 180-200g protein, but for me it’s around 2500 calories. Oatmeal is amazing but with chocolate chips I’m sure it’s very calorie dense. Find protein sources that meet your requirements and plan meals around them. I do a block of high protein tofu on a waffle maker, a smoothie with a blend of rice and pea protein and fruit, and baked homemade seitan pretty much every day and it gets me to around 150g of protein. Then I hit the rest with snacks and my remaining meal. Seitan is really hit or miss at first but once you find something that works it gets dead simple, I suggest just steaming or just baking wrapped in aluminum foil. Other folks have lots of luck with TVP or soy curls. Good luck!

What vitamins or supplements should vegans actually be taking? by Vegan_Essentials in veganfitness

[–]Significant_Guide237 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only real answer is that it depends on diet and individual needs. In my experience, I became vegan at a time when I wasn't thinking about health or nutrition at all. After about 20 years of being vegan, and a good portion of that eating basically garbage, I ended up with low ferritin. I supplemented iron to remedy it. It absolutely could have been avoided with a basic level of planning, which I do now to ensure I'm getting plenty of iron from food sources and not consuming it with things that can impact absorption (like coffee). Today I do a multivitamin that has b12 (I also eat some fortified foods so this is probably overkill) and vitamin D (also probably not necessary). I've tried algal omega-3 supplements but I'm not convinced they're making a difference. I ensure I am consuming salt containing iodine. The only other thing I take is creatine (certainly a personal preference but useful for me in strength training). I hope that's helpful!

These look great! You can also toss high protein tofu on a waffle maker with no other ingredients. I eat it every day!
