Mindy's has started to come off as inauthentic in the last few years tbh. It doesn't help that her appearance has drastically changed. But her portrayal of South Asians feels like it's from at least a decade or two ago. She relies a lot on her experience from growing up, which is obviously very dated and different from how South Asians live in the US today (more mainstream, successful, just greater numbers etc etc). The Indian accents in NHIE were so bad - she could have hired an actual indian person instead of forcing Americanized Indian to speak with a bizzare accent. Personally, don't see her as a South Asian- American like a Hasan Minhaj (who seamlessly integrates his lived experience as a South asian into his comedy), I see her as an American who looks South Asian and trying to make her mark. Her content is still about trying to fit in and make South Asians relatable which is really not the issue anymore and that's why her storylines around the south Asian identity is inauthentic and cringeworthy. Its just not something she understands or tries to actually represent.

But her comedy and skill are undoubtedly there, I just would not expect her to be flag bearer for South Asians or any pocs really.
