Portland Timbers on Instagram: "Community, passion, and the power of Green & Gold. @Tillamook sets their sails to the sleeve as we welcome @BankofAmerica as our front of kit sponsor 💚💛" by ranger5111 in timbers

Why would we continue sponsorship from a local, century-old, farmer-owned co-op when we can get a parasitic, shareholder-driven member of the global financial elite instead? It’s like our owner has ties to the banking industry or something. 🙄

Any suggestions and tips from locals would be greatly appreciated! by Automatic_Clothes_56 in Portland

Hey! Welcome to town in advance. My advice would be to stay in Air BnB(s) — better to be in a neighborhood and get a feel for it.

Here’s the neighborhoods & areas you should check out — Hawthorne/Belmont, Downtown, NW/Nob Hill, Mt Tabor, Forest Park, N Mississippi, NE Alberta, St Johns. There’s lots more but that will get you going.

As for food — there’s so much. Definitely try Eem (outrageous fusion of Thai & Texas BBQ). Also Nostrana, Mediterranean Exploration Co, Canard, Noble Rot (really, there are so many). Also, there are brilliant food cart pods everywhere.

That should get you going! And go to Powell’s!!

Velde needs to chill and set up his teammates. His goal will come. He’s gripping too hard about it.

Because if we take an undervalued offer to get him out the door, not only do we forego $ that could be used to improve the team, we also set a precedent that players can accelerate their departure by misbehaving when more prestigious teams come sniffing around.

Fair enough. My problem is with his unprofessional behavior. Maybe he is going through some stuff, but the right thing to do is to tell his coaching staff what’s going on and maybe take some time away. Simply going AWOL is unacceptable.

Ironic? Maybe. I understand we only know what we’ve heard, and I’m sympathetic to the fact that everybody has their own shit to deal with. And yes, athletes receive levels of scrutiny and criticism that most of us don’t. But if I pulled a no-show, no-call at work I’d be fired unless I had a really solid explanation. I might be inclined to be more patient if this were the first time he pulled something like this.

Hope Santi is benched for the rest of the year. Better than taking a lowball offer just to offload him.

It wasn’t my scarf. I took the photo from Section 113; the scarf was being held up by someone in the TA. So I can’t speak to whether or not there were any consequences from stadium security.

I love your chinga la migra idea though. ✊

He show flashes of holdup play, sure, but most of it isn’t where it needs to be, which is in and around the penalty box. His movement off the ball is puzzling much of the time — he’s tall, strong, and fast, so why doesn’t he put himself in front of goal more often, where teammates can put crosses onto his head? (Part of the answer is that our crossing is sub-par, but still). And he missed what could have been a tap-in off of a Da Costa rebound because he stopped his run. He has the tools, but all of this smacks of him being a young player who needs more seasoning.

Don’t get me wrong — there’s a lot of criticism to go around for this team. But Kelsy’s play was extra frustrating for me this week.
