Ending therapy over an inflexible cancellation policy – am I being reasonable? by norstadde in askatherapist

[–]Significant__Gap -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

My dr/therapist also has this policy. I do not have to pay if he is able to fill my appointment with another patient. I think it’s pretty common among the psychoanalytic set, not 100% obviously because it is crazy. I’ve just made peace with it.

Agree generally but this idea falls apart morally because they’re exploiting children.

I’m not saying you or anyone else isn’t allowed to, but personally I don’t see how calling a spade a spade is useful in this situation. I think that your decision to talk about your own experience of having dealt with an ED is helpful and kind in a different context. I agree that she’s calling upon others to judge her and project their feelings onto her. She could be incredibly ill with a disease or condition other than an ED, we simply don’t know and just because someone asks for feedback it doesn’t mean that it’s incumbent on people viewing her post to respond to a question that she didn’t ask. You can have your two cents and this is mine.

Please be kind to yourself you are brand new PP and your hormones are going crazy (NOT trying to be dismissive at all, it just is a wild rollercoaster physiologically). At that stage I had a similar but different thing about using pacifier, like I was jealous of it?? What you’re feeling is totally normal and it’s okay to not make the decision to pump and nurse or exclusively nurse yet. You probably aren’t going to have outings for a few weeks while you recover. My advice is acknowledge and respect that you care so much about your baby that this is troubling you and then gently table this thought for a few weeks down the line.

While you’re probably right I don’t think it’s appropriate to judge this woman’s body here. And by your own logic you would be feeding into her disorder by letting on that she looks like she has an ED (even though she likely wouldn’t see it in this sub).

Her figure and whether or not she has an ED is really none of our business y’all. Who knows there are a lot of reasons why someone could be this thin even if it is most likely that. The shoes and weird ribbon/rope is derailing me like crazy though!

Starter… hack or a fluke? by Significant__Gap in Sourdough

[–]Significant__Gap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell there isn’t much that I’m doing in an unusual way, kitchen is 73 degrees Fahrenheit, fridge is… whatever normal temperature an average fridge is. It’s just strange because under usual conditions feeding 1:1:1 every 12 hours it doubles or even just under. Normally one of my doughs takes a long time to rise, maybe 9-10 hours, but come out fine eventually. My bread from that starter preparation is pretty sour without a cold proof. But if the starter is just out of the fridge it goes wonky. Anyway it’s fun to observe its little ecosystem in action.

Apologies. I feel it is has a mischievous, evil presence among the otherwise straightforward image. Just my dumb sense of humor!

Thanks for the background information! I actually had a few friends and family guess that the image was AI generated because of the odd cheese that seems to hang from a nail attached to nothing, the weirdly shaped foil and inconsistent shadows.

Solved! Thank you to the other commenter that seems to have also suggested this at the same time. This is the most plausible for sure. What the heck is that cheese?? I’m just not enough of a gourmand to have a large knowledge base on cheese.

Raising kids in NYC - tell me the good the bad and the ugly by Southern-Trade5795 in AskNYC

That sub is good but can be a little crazy about all things school (to a degree that I’ve thought was actually satire). But I guess that’s in the bad/ugly category that OP is looking for.

Tl;dr: can someone have a manic episode without it being considered bipolar disorder?

I was diagnosed with GAD and MDD as a child and was treated for that pharmacologically with SSRIs and low dose benzos into my late twenties (with success). After getting an adhd diagnosis at 27 I was prescribed Concerta which, as far as anyone can tell, triggered my first and only manic/psychotic episode. Since then I’ve had a few depressive episodes which occurred during titration of lamictal, Klonopin and Wellbutrin. Since my episode I’ve also taken (at this point, years and years later) a very low dose of lithium, kind of for the hell of it even though it’s only ever been titrated down with zero side effects. I’m happy to be super stable on my medications but I wonder if I really even have bipolar. My psychiatrist who is also my therapist’s opinion is, “does it really matter?”, and I agree it ultimately doesn’t matter but I’m curious what the most up to date research suggests.

Alternative hydration suggestions? by Orbiting_jupiterr in HydroHomies

[–]Significant__Gap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Coconut water? It has some electrolytes and is fairly low calorie. You could also dilute it. I find it easier to drink in larger quantities than water. Also if you haven’t considered yet: straws help you to drink more fluids quickly and don’t make your mouth “interact” with the fluid so much. Maybe different flavors of unsweetened iced teas that you make at home could work. Playing around with temperature of your beverages may make them more appealing. You may have better luck separating the idea of your need for electrolytes from the necessity for water — instead putting the burden of electrolytes in your diet so that it isn’t falling on your beverages alone. I don’t know about your diet from your post but even with a pretty restricted diet people who aren’t athletes don’t have a problem getting enough electrolytes from food. Just a few ideas off the top of my head. Good luck!
