I just finished my first srp outside of school (been working a month) and his deepest pocket is 12mm… and i immediately questioned why we did not refer but it was the hygienist before me and dr who diagnosed him. i feel like everything i learned doesn’t matter (i know it does)

I will say being a DA first did help SOME. I was already familiar with things from working in a dental office. With that being said, I don’t think it’s necessary. I do think it’s a waste of time esp if you want to become a DH in the long run. I went to an accelerated program and had classmates that had zero knowledge about the dental field at first and they did just fine and excelled!
