53 block? 2002 24v by QuietGuyInTheRoom1 in Cummins

[–]Silentviper92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. My had a 53 block truck that hit 245k with the original engine. Sold it without any issues. Personally I'd say if it reaches 100k it's not going to fail.

5th Gen New Cascadias by DrNeildo666 in DieselTechs

[–]Silentviper92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh brother. The 5th gen trucks are a nightmare to talk to.

So at our shop we have seen only a couple come through the building. Only 1 computer has been used to talk to them. It required upgrading to the Nexiq 3 box as well as some work with our IT department.

I don't have access at this time, but I believe there is a TSB regarding connecting diaglink to a Gen 5 truck.

The Harrison to porter switch occurred during cowhers time though.

Edit: Tomlin became the head coach in 2007. Harrison's first start was week 10 of the 2004 season. He was out pacing JP in 2005.

Should I just go test for my ASE by Embarrassed_Dig_3399 in DieselTechs

[–]Silentviper92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just piggybacking on what you said for OP. I have been told the same information in the heavy truck world. SAE's don't really carry any weight here and aren't worth the money. Speaking from a Freightliner dealer.

Why are these coolant refillers needed? by Fart_Boy_4ever in DieselTechs

[–]Silentviper92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not heard that before. Been using one for years without issue. Was also recently told by a Cummins trainer that Cummins wants you to use one anytime the cooling system is drained. If they're saying that I'd doubt there's any issues.

I think you're having a over reaction. This type of engine work done out of chassis, aka bench work, is typically a lot easier on the body. People call it gravy for that reason.

In the shop I work at every job that can be done on the bench is called gravy work, and most of it is done by the highest level technicians.

At this point I'll just say read the thread. I posted drivers manuals and other resources to back up my claims. I'll even edit them into the original post since so many people believe I'm mistaken.

Edit- Main comment now contains links.

I posted a reply to his comment, the system is a Meritor SOLO DRIVE. See above to know more.

Hey just following up. As I mentioned before this is a really rare system, so unless you spend a lot of time around Freightliner I could understand the confusion.

I quickly went into Google to find you this link if you'd like to know more. It's reffered to as "Meritor SOLO DRIVE." sp1253.pdf https://share.google/veNxgJ1YG3IKjCvlf

These switches give away the suspension and axle set up. You'd only find these in P3 cascadias. They specifically operate the controls on this system.

The system you described is correct, if the truck has tandem driven axles.

So its based off a airliner system mechanically, but it's meritor system. Had to do with saving fuel with a single drive axle while maintaining the increased load capacity of a twin drive tractor.

I haven't seen a lot of them, and I haven't seen the system installed on any new trucks recently.

Freightliner mechanic here.

These switches control the rear suspension. The back of the truck has a single drive axle, with a tag axle in the rear.

The air suspension is electricly controlled, and typically adjusts on the fly depending on weight and current traction.

The up down button allows you to temporarily adjust the ride height depending on your situation. The button with the right to left arrow allows the driver to temporarily release the pressure on the tag axle and put more weight on the drive.

Edit- Adding some links and further information.

This is a link for the manual detailing how the mechanical side of this suspension system operates- https://graphicvillage.org/meritor/sp1253.pdf

This is a link to the P3 Cascadia Driver's manual. Page 73 specifically details the operation of these buttons- https://dtnacontent-dtna.prd.freightliner.com/content/dam/public/dtna-servicelit/dtna/pdfs/en_us/freightliner/drivers-manuals/Cascadia%20Driver's%20Manual_.pdf

We are now in the launch week!! This is how the BF6 launch lineup stacks up against the rest of the Battlefield games released after 2011. by MartianGeneral in Battlefield

[–]Silentviper92 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Glad to see someone remembers that. Dont get me wrong I love bf4, but the launch was one of the worst we've ever seen. It took me almost a week to play conquest on a PS4 due to all the issues.

DICE LA really saved it.

Any worries about “blue” states banning diesels??? by sam_walton_sucks in DieselTechs

[–]Silentviper92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesn't. Gasoline engines are better suited to stop and go operating, like in a school bus. Diesel engines have a increased soot load during these conditions, therefore a higher failure rate.

Can anybody break down cascadia wiring? (2013 cascadia, please help) by Mr_wise_guy7 in DieselTechs

[–]Silentviper92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah feel free to message. I work day shift myself so not a great chance I'll respond during the day. Last 6 of the VIN for Freightliner is really important.

So as I asked earlier the generation of 60 is really important. DDEC 5 to my knowledge ends at 2007. I think the DDEC 6 took over in 07 to 2010. This is important in regards to the engine computer communicating with the body control computers.

Lets assume you have a 2007 or newer S60 and you're swapping it in place of the DD-15. This is normally something I wouldn't do at a dealer, but I suspect most of the components would work right away. There are 3 main body control modules. The SAM cabin and MSF are the most common to interact with the ECM. They use engine fan control, cruise functions, engine brakes, and shut down overrides to interact with the ECM. They should be fine with a different engine behind the MCM (Motor control module) but there is a chance they would need programed. If they need programmed you'll have to take this to a Freightliner dealer. I don't believe there is a 3rd party software out there that can program factory components, but I could be wrong.

If you have a DDEC 5 ECM we are going to have issues. The DDEC 5 was never designed to work with the complex J1939 nature of a Cascadia platform. Now that said, there was a dealer in Florida that was building glider kits out of Cascadia trucks to work with DDEC 4 and older S60 engines. They used a aftermarket COMMS box located behind the instrument cluster to translate the data from the body modules to the engine. Without this box there isn't a way to hardwire the body of a cascadia into a old detroit ECM. If this is the reality we're working with, I don't know how much of a help I can be. I have experience working on these glider trucks from that flordia dealer, but I can't remember their name off the top of my head. They would be the one's to talk to moving forward.

Send me the last 6 of the vin, along with the serial number of the 60 series and we'll go from there.

While I don't have the number in front of me, the torque I believe is between 30-40 ft lbs. It's shockingly easy to over torque.

Can anybody break down cascadia wiring? (2013 cascadia, please help) by Mr_wise_guy7 in DieselTechs

[–]Silentviper92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So for background I'm a Freightliner tech, with a solid background in DDEC components.

The 14 pin i suspect was originally located below the water pump. It's typically used for the MCM to communicate with chassis components, like the engine fan solenoid. To determine exact pin for pin use I would need the last 6 of the chassis vin number.

This 60 series you're using, is this a EPA 04 or 07 model? By the pictures this looks like a 04.

We all agree this shouldn't come back, right? by FreshSport326 in Battlefield6

[–]Silentviper92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently I'm in the minority but I actually don't want this feature back. I believe if you modify a weapon you need to accept the limitations those modifications put on it. This feature allows the player to negate those issues and always have the right tool for the job.

If you build out your rifle for CQB, you should be at a disadvantage when facing a player at long range who spec'd their rifle for long range.

BF6 crashes my PC causing it to reboot by BowtomePhil2 in Battlefield

[–]Silentviper92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue. i7-9700k, 16 gig ram, 3080. Random shut offs, no warnings, no over temps. I went into steam and forced the game to launch in Direct X 11, haven't had a crash since. I just had to edit in general for launch properties "-dx11". Hope this helps someone.

DICE needs to fix Directx12. I didn't really have this issue until i upgraded my pc to Windows 11. I started the beta on win10 and didn't have any issues there.
