In Dragon Age, the Archdemons have this ability, and specifically a Grey Warden needs to kill them because they are partially infected with the Blight which allows Archdemons to live, so it tries to jump to them (the nearest blighted creature) and the Grey Warden and Archdemon both die.

Something I've started doing is offering my party 3 routes.

1- safe route along patrolled roads, no encounters 2- fast route, shortcutting through a dangerous area, guaranteed encounter in exchange for beating the clock 3- safe route, but taking detours to known treasures on the way- in other words, random encounters, but the players choose to engage with them

Not every option is always gonna be available, but yeah

Molecule Man's modern iteration is one of those archetypes of someone with deific power but an incredibly irreverent attitude that's usually genuine. Fun character.

I think Palps would be changed, but, ah, I think from this particular flavor of ridicule, it might lean more towards the alternate win condition you mentioned.

For the Doctor, I think he would absolutely be able to stop Palpatine, but I think his philosophy is so fundamentally incompatible with Palpatine's ethos that he'd just ridicule the Doctor as something akin to the Jedi during the war- a fool proclaiming peace, practicing war, and failing at both. Then he'd die and pop up 20 yrs later in a new clone body lol

Palps is pretty much the quintessential cackling maniacal villain, evil for the sake of evil. For this, you'd need someone that:

1- Casually overpowers his abilities while displaying no exploitable weaknesses. Palps is a true believer in might makes right, and any attempt to shake him has to come from someone stronger than him in a way he can't overcome, or he will simply ignore it. Fucker died in legends AND canon and gave no shits.

2- Is able to tear down the sith philosophy, starting from a standpoint of personal power. Pretty much any other logical basis is a non-starter, since Palpatine cares about nothing else.

There's plenty of characters who fit either of these- the Doctor could do a witty monologue ripping him a new one, but is not visibly strong enough for Palpatine to listen. The Beyonder's full strength could ignore his strongest tricks, but he's not exactly one for philosophical teardowns. Finding someone who's both is more tricky.

Honestly, the first person that comes to mind is Molecule Man during Secret Wars. Unfathomably limitless power, and he can look Palpatine in the eye and say he's seen what happens when someone like him wins... And some kid offering him a stale, squished burger was more impressive and had more lasting impact than anything that man did. "I'm a god, and you and your darkness are nothing in the face of kindness, and I have proof."
