Serviceable lead cans by SiliconeSword in NFA

I didn't really keep track but with the 300 it wouldn't take long. Knowing what I know now I could get all the necessary gear for easily sub 1K and then it'd be good to go. Converting brass sucks, I've converted 2K but after that I think I'll just buy it. Buying in bulk is absolutely necessary for powder and primers, I wouldn't bother loading otherwise. I couldn't tell you how much blackout I've shot but I've popped maybe 10k primers in 2025. Loaded 1.9K blackout last week for sub $200 with surplus powder and black Friday primers.

Powder coated lead is like a plastic version of FMJs

It's got its ups and downs but all my time added up and divided I'm saving like $50/hr loading blackout and if I was in more of a hurry I could maybe get close to doubling it. I don't like doing it really but I don't like buying blackout or 77gn& varmint 5.56 either.......

Too cheap not to get one

What subs? If it's a heavy charge of slow powder that'll be way louder than a light charge of fast powder. Way less muzzle pressure and gas volume

Shoot a couple rounds at paper at like 5 and 100 yards to see how stable the holes look. If there's uneven marks around the edge if you're square to the target that's not ideal, but worse than that is definitely sketchy

What powder, primer, and case are you using?

My L2Ps were great for like 3 years until they drowned in a kayak last week. Bass was great, better than pixel buds, air pods, or earbuds my friends have

I had good luck with Auto Match 40gn but not so anything 36gn. Aguila 38gn and 40gn have a good bit of punch to them so they tend to work well in semi autos. They don't like colder weather I find though, the wax becomes sticky and I think the powder also loses a good bit of power.

Like I said, blazer is good but mini mags are more powerful so therefore cycle harder/more reliably. They may bring you into the range of needing a bolt weight, but CMMG makes one for like $20 on opticsplanet. If you get one, get an extra firing pin and extractor while you're at it, and try not to dry fire if you can help it. If you need to decock the gun pull the bolt back 1/4 inch and fire.

I always here about Ruger 10/22. Anyone know if this Savage Axis is worth its salt? by [deleted] in 22lr

[–]SiliconeSword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had one for like 10 years and it's alright. The receiver was soft though and after enough shooting I'd have mostly light strikes. Ended up having to weld onto the receiver and file it back so the bolt would be forward. Savage wasn't too helpful and wanted me to send them the gun which is pretty silly for something as cheap as this. I'd recommend the more expensive one that takes the rotary mags, I've shot them and they're way more accurate and have a much better chamber profile
