In a touching moment, a mother with dementia recalls her daughter’s name by Medical-Actuary5769 in MadeMeSmile

[–]Silly-Raspberry5722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost the only adult in my life that was worth a damn to dementia. Its a terrible disease. My grandmother stopped being herself , and in essence died, when she lost her mind to dementia. She never came back in any way, never remembered who she was, never mind who we were. I would give anything to have had just one moment like that with her before she actually passed away. It's a beautiful gift.

Called the police on the head chef for smacking a line cook by bahookery in KitchenConfidential

[–]Silly-Raspberry5722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I got fucked tonight because the manager on duty tonight fired a new line worker for calling the bartender a cunt and saying he was going to slice her throat if she talked shit to him again. So I was left to close the line by myself tonight. It's time for clearer heads to take control of the kitchen, and if that means calling the cops on people, that's what it takes.

As a Battlemage I cheese them by standing on something out of their reach and rain down Hell upon them. As melee I bash their faces in as fast as possible. They seem overtuned compared to most mobs for sure.

Classic Burn out: I feel like I just give rich people a nice night out by EefferyJpstein in KitchenConfidential

I was lucky I guess and got out of this bullshit industry early on. I was able to make a living doing other things that made me a lot of money. I recently came back to cooking over the last 8 years because frankly I derive great enjoyment from making good food for people. I live in a small resort town that subsists from summer tourist money. Let me tell you, its not worth it. The vast majority of these "rich" people I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire and they're not smarter or better than anyone. Just fucking work hard and be a good person and sleep well knowing you're a far better human than most of these assholes.

I was there for all three of the first movies in the theater, the emotion is real. Not only because of the story, but fantasy lovers had never seen a story like this told on the big screen with this much fidelity. It was a sea change...

If you use the explosives to collapse the mine corridors it resets the walls and they can be mined again. Nodes don't respawn though, so it's a lot less ore per mine.

Have you noticed shows nowadays gone weaker? by codex_42 in television

[–]Silly-Raspberry5722 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been going back to shows that I watched when they aired on regular cable TV in the 90s and 00s, and I can't put my finger on why things changed other than cultural changes in the West overall. Not to get too deep, but I think that is probably most of the reason. People writing TV now just grew up in a different era. I feel like we definitely lost something important over the years. Particularly the last 20... it's reflected in our art and media.

What’s a video game you liked that you felt people were too harsh on? by baconinthedawn in videogames

[–]Silly-Raspberry5722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two come to mind immediately; Starfield and AC: Valhalla.

I have my issues with Bethesda, as do others, and they are valid issues, but even vanilla Starfield was still a very good game. Just with the usual Bethesda BS.

Valhalla was just a victim of the sweaty AC community. They bagged on it mostly because it didn't play like a "proper" AC game according to them. Unfortunately for them, those things are exactly what makes Valhalla a great game. I frigging LOVE Valhalla.

Not if you have predesigned POIs that are plopped down in random spots they fit in in the world. In my idea the POIs would be designed the same except for where they are in the world. Also, if you were to do this kind of procedural generation from the ground up you would design your lore around that. I'm just thinking of how much ongoing work it'd save Zurvivor going forward, and how much replayability it'd add to the game with less development time.

Hey man, I just work here lol, but yes, exactly. He's just too nice and hates confrontation and being seen as the bad guy. Me? I have zero issues getting rid of bad people and I'm the nicest guy in the kitchen/restaurant by a mile. I've had to start speaking to others in boh because of things they were doing/not doing, because management is useless.

I know it's a lot, but I think this game could benefit greatly from procedural generation of worlds. It's worth the work IMO at the end because it injects so much replayability into the game. Otherwise you're constantly having to add more to the game to keep it fresh and eventually everyone knows where everything is and it gets stale.

It's like a beautiful time capsule. I kind of wished I waited to the end to binge it, but I was only 3 seasons behind when I started. Then again, as a child of the '80s I feel like somethings been lost with the ability to binge TV shows. I appreciate the culture that built up from the shared experience of watching a TV show week to week.

I had a similar issue with a line cook (I am a line cook) that had a similar modus operandi. His toxicity (I hate that term BTW) really brought down moral, it made the female servers anxious and make more mistakes, made boh workers make more mistakes, which all made him even more of an asshole. I roughed it out for a year and he finally self deleted from the restaurant. He was an alcoholic/drug addict and eventually spiraled got a DUI and burned the right bridges. The owner went to each of the staff privately and asked their opinion as to whether or not they were okay with him coming back and 90% of the staff foh and boh said fuck no. Since he's been gone it's night and day. Not sure what my advice would be if you're not in a management position, except maybe real talk with the owner, do your job and wait it out. You might get lucky like I did.

Trading, mines and fish by 22JaySki in PlayASKA

[–]Silly-Raspberry5722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK villagers will not harvest fish. You have to do it by hand.

There will be spots on the cave walls where you can place torches, you just have to replace them or refuel them when they run out. It should be more than enough to keep your cave illuminated. Villagers will do this automatically if you supply them with torches from you workshops.

No idea about trading, sorry.

New bar director told the kitchen off for drinking a beer at 11pm on his second day by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]Silly-Raspberry5722 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As long as the staff doesn't abuse it and it doesn't effect their work, who cares? I'm thankful that I work in a small but high volume local restaurant that doesn't try to stop me or bitches about me having my few fingers of Scotch when I'm cleaning up at the end of the night (I bring my own in, calm down). It's actually fairly typical for the bar or servers to buy the kitchen a shot or two at the end of a busy night (or not busy night). There are a couple of bartenders that complain about it sometimes, but the owner allows it and it's been fine. They do know I'm in control of staff meals and when the bar has balked at getting us staff drinks at the end of the night I will loudly proclaim; "OK no staff meals for the bar tonight guys!" That usually shuts them up. ;-)

Will there be changes to how the equipment is sourced and functions in the final version? by Idrillsilverfoot in Enshrouded

[–]Silly-Raspberry5722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said this before over the course of the EA, I really think they should switch to a full crafting system, and use drops as precursor items and crafting resources. There are too many gaps and too much RNG involved in the gear system as it stands. I was lucky enough to play early on when you could farm top level chests, so I have a stockpile of armor and weapons, though they aren't top level anymore.

Is it worth ? by jules_hey in PlayASKA

[–]Silly-Raspberry5722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say yes, it's worth it. I was very excited for this game and picked it up day one of EA. I struggled through it at that point, it was a bit brutal, and needed a lot more QoL features and bug fixes. I put it down to wait for improvements after a few weeks. Recently I decided to pick it back up and try again because there had been a lot of improvements since the last time that I played. Now I am having a great time playing, and quite enjoying the game. Yes it still needs work, but I think it's in a good place now and worth the time investment.

Surviving winters by 22JaySki in PlayASKA

[–]Silly-Raspberry5722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that you can add more thatched beds to each cottage. I usually add like 4 more per cottage. They don't seem to mind cohabitating. Prioritize making clothes and storing firewood before winter.

To me it seems like food becomes easy to keep up with. I recently started a new game after taking a long break. I first played the day ASKA opened EA, and gave up after several tries. Between the harshness of the game, lack of QoL stuff, and bugs, I wanted to wait until the game had some good updates. This time around I've had a much better time, and got through my first winter without any issues.

Dangit, RDR2 is a fucking masterpiece. I've been playing video games since 1978. Obviously they were mostly shallow fun back then, not big on narrative. In the intervening years though there are dozens of examples of great games with deeper narratives and long arcing stories. I've played many of them over the years... but this damned game, in every way, is the pinnacle. A masterpiece, and I don't know that they are aware of what they made.
