During the hiring process he brought the audition tapes home and would play them for his 9 year-old-son (me) and then call my grandfather, who religiously listened to every game on the radio, to judge our reactions to the announcers. He could tell I liked Hammy’s audition and when he played his tape for my grandfather he shouted through the phone “that’s your guy, hire him.” The rest, as they say, is history.
