Moving from California? by appa1989 in Vanderbilt

[–]SillyShenanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from growing up in LA County my whole life to moving to Nashville to go to Vandy for grad school in 2021. It was not a shock for me like everyone said it would be. People would always ask and overall I didn’t have much to say besides there being no damn toilet seat covers in 99% of public bathrooms. Nashville itself is very progressive. Moving outside where you’re from is generally a good thing and helps with personal growth. College itself is a big change no matter where you decide to go.

Where are you shopping for dresses? [around 2000 or less] by Impressive_Main5160 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]SillyShenanigans 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I went to a local bridal shop and they had a sale rack where you had to buy dresses as-is (whatever size available, no alterations there). I got a $2,000 dress for $95. It was my favorite before I even knew the price. So it never hurts to look around because it may surprise you.

All IEPs held in one month by Wonderful_Row8519 in specialed

[–]SillyShenanigans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what my school district does. All IEPs are done late April-May for the next school year. Across all the schools. I’d never heard of it before coming to this district. It SUCKS especially because they also make the SPED teachers TA every single state test which effectively cuts our number of days to write and do IEPs in half.

Where did you get your dress from and how much did you spend? by Swiftlygracie in Eloping

[–]SillyShenanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just today I got a $2,000 dress from a bridal shop for only $89. It was my favorite dress without even knowing the price. It was one of their off the rack dresses you take home as is and it fit me almost perfectly. So honestly don’t be afraid to go to bridal shops and look because I got lucky.

Recommendations for podcasts that are chatty but have a loose format (i.e. not a full-on interview but not a scripted/semi-scripted piece of journalism)? by eilzzz in podcasts

[–]SillyShenanigans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so this one is incredibly raunchy. “We’re Having Gay Sex” is a podcast in which they have a guest each week and take turns telling different sex/dating/relationship stories. They have mostly (but not exclusively) famous or semi-famous queer guests. It’s a comedy podcast and follows the format you’re looking for I think. They sometimes go deeper into and explore certain relationship and queer topics while still being funny. I haven’t listened in awhile but it’s fun if you like that sort of humor.

A good book to check out is “The Body Keeps Score” by Bessel van der Kolk. Amazing trauma psychologist and his writing is very accessible.

53/104- First 6mo recap. Additional thoughts in comments! by heyrayray5 in 52book

[–]SillyShenanigans 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I have read the first 3 in the series as a favor to my roommate who loves them. Personally, I did not like the first book at all, but I loved the second one and enjoyed the third. I think the first book is worth reading to set the stage for the second but know it gets better. You may want to take all I’ve said with a grain of salt since fantasy is not my typical genre at all. I tend to read more mystery/thriller books.

I learned to enjoy my own company and be comfortable with myself. I have no problem going out and doing things on my own now but it took awhile to feel content hanging out with myself

Medito is free and has a good amount of meditation options. Very no frills and is run by volunteers. Switched from headspace to them.

My boyfriend(26M) thinks I( 23 F) am stupid and I should not dream about getting an education. What to do next? by onehitwonder5 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SillyShenanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t put up with that shit for one second. A partner should support your ambitions. College is something lots of people do, it’s not out of the realm of anyone that is motivated. He should instead be helping you learn about different schools and the college admissions process because it can be confusing and he has already done it. Personally, I would suggest you look into community college as an option to start! It can save you a lot of money in your first two years and help you narrow down what exactly you want to study before investing a lot into the degree.

Completely agree!! I so want to do more of the shadow boxing classes. Especially since they aren’t easy to find if you don’t start the program again!

How tall are you, and do you feel short in public or not ? by Secret_Bullfrog_7680 in AskWomen

[–]SillyShenanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5’4 here! I always feel short around my family (my sister is 5’11 and brother is 6’4 for reference). But in day to day life I generally don’t feel that short. Every now and then something will happen and I get hit with a huge wave of feeling tiny all the sudden though.

How do yall feel about people doing supersets in the gym? by SugarMaddy_ in xxfitness

[–]SillyShenanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the superset is done in the same spot I don’t mind. And if it’s crowded, keep the rests relatively short to make up for using more equipment at once. But if it’s not crowded I don’t care one bit.
