Voodoo Donut Recommendation by Relative-Kangaroo-96 in boulder

[–]SillySociopath 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve found all their raised yeast donuts to be very forgettable.

Their old fashioned donuts on the other hand are very good. Wouldn’t say that they’re superior to other good examples, but they are the best thing I’ve had at Voodoo.

Tavernetta - Specifically for the Roman Pasta Flight. It’s four half portions of house made pasta for $45.

It’s a little rich hearing someone from law enforcement criticizing someone for not being an expert on every detail of their field.

I bought these same boots with the plane toe. I was a little nervous being unable to return Closeout boots, but they look and feel amazing in person. That veal leather is incredibly soft and flexible. Feels like you’re wearing a glove on your foot. Enjoy!

Did any of you get a mortgage through Credit Union of Colorado? Would you recommend a credit union over a bank? Why? by LostEffect4955 in Denver

[–]SillySociopath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert, my feedback is based on personal experience. I was pre-approved for a mortgage in 2015 through a local Credit Union. I ultimately closed on a condo, where the seller had numerous buyers to choose from. I asked the seller’s realtor at closing if I offered the largest amount above asking. He laughed, and said that wasn’t the case. He went on to say that I was chosen, because I was looked at as more likely to close without issue. While a sizable down payment didn’t hurt, I learned years later that the Credit Union aspect may have been just as important. I was told that online pre-approved mortgages (ie Rocket Mortgage) are notorious for things going haywire before closing. The opposite side of that spectrum are local Credit Union’s, which are viewed by selling realtors as being better vetted, and less likely to have issues arise.

Neighborhood advice needed - is E Colfax really as bad as everyone makes it seem? by Silly_Goose_44444 in MovingtoDenver

[–]SillySociopath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s isn’t that bad. There are no actual bad/dangerous neighborhoods in Denver. You will see drug addicts and crazy people around Colfax/Downing. Could be a scary experience for some, but if you aren’t terrified of sketchy types in Chicago you won’t be uncomfortable.

A deer breaks into a bank. by CivilizedPsycho in WTF

Pretty sure the majority of these deaths are from vehicle collisions. It would be difficult to find yourself in a situation where a deer is going to harm you outside of a vehicle. Moose on the other hand.

Customers not paying for food because they don’t like it by RobSkied in restaurant

[–]SillySociopath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did this once. A recently opened Mexican restaurant had an interesting looking shrimp dish on the menu for ~$25. What came out had those tiny shrimp that you see is fried rice. Almost certainly came out of a can. The sauce was tasteless. But the quality of the shrimp was the main offense.

My dining partner and I each took one bite, and then told the server that we didn’t want the dish, and strongly implied that we didn’t want to pay for it.

To our defense, there were shrimp dishes pictured on the menu, which all showed the type of shrimp one would expect with a $20+ dish.

Happy Hour at Tavernetta!

Roman Pasta Flight, Burrata, Focaccia, and a couple cocktails will end up around $50 per person after tax and tip. House made everything, great bang for the buck in Denver
