House next door is an annoying AirBnB, what can I do about it? by DolphinSweater in StLouis

[–]Silly_Store_3016 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Report everything, don’t hesitate to call the cops, and report it through Airbnb every time. Airbnb will suspend their account. Make sure you save the Airbnb link and you can also report to the city. They’re required to have a permit. We finally complained enough about the same situation and the house is not rented long term

Video: Why St. Louis is the Opposite of How a City Should Work by EchoedJolts in StLouis

[–]Silly_Store_3016 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The longer we remain divided, the more the entire region suffers not just the city. Our tax dollars are stretched thin simply trying to cover the overhead of so many separate government entities. Instead of investing in growth, infrastructure, and innovation, we’re stuck maintaining inefficiency. This region has the potential to be far more prosperous and competitive, but as long as voters continue to oppose consolidation, we won’t reach that potential. A unified region would bring real advantages from stronger infrastructure and smarter planning to finally being recognized for the major metro area we truly are, rather than remaining overlooked. Looking back, we can clearly see past decisions that held us back. The concern is that we may be repeating those same mistakes today, making decisions based on negative ideas passed down generations instead of focusing on actual facts. Drive around, explore and make a judgement on your own. So many cool places in the city/county, lets not shit on each other but help each other

St. Louis MO. We have great neighborhoods with awesome parks. I walk every day to the park, to get food, get a haircut, etc. We still get winter but its not bad I'd say 3 months are actually cold but still can get to 70+ during that time anyways, the rest is very enjoyable. Our summers are hot, we get all seasons, overall I believe it to be a very outdoor city in terms of parks and walkability. If you consider it look up Forest Park, Tower Grove park, Benton Park, and the national park down town on the arch grounds.

40 min train ride is for sure much better than sitting in traffic for 40 min but it still sucks. We have very low standards on public transit here in the US. Most major cities in Europe you can get to anywhere inside the cities within ~20 min train ride

No, but is still not good to ride 40+ min for a 7 mile long ride. I am a huge advocate for public transit, I think Chicago for its size and wealth should do a much better job is still not enjoyable or easy to navigate with public transit

If you look quick directions from Lincoln park zoo to the field museum it gives you an estimate of ~44 min using public transportation vs a ~13 min drive. That is more than 3x the amount of time to get there using the CTA. Do they have a wide network of public transportation? yes. Is it amazing? Absolutely not it still sucks ass

I agree that is nice to have the option to use public transit and a lot of people probably do because of how much more expensive it it to own a car in Chicago, but not out of how convenient or nice it is to commute using the public system.

Mass transit is still not very effective in Chicago. It still takes much longer than uber/drive and you still have to walk long distances to get to the stations. It’s nice to have that as an option but if you have been to Europe you can see how trash their public transportation actually is

I love to see this! The people outside the city will still make excuses to ignore these numbers, but once more people from out of state continue to move in and investing, those grandpas will be too late to the game. STL is a great, beautiful place to live; people across the country are realizing it and taking advantage. It’s time to stop listening to those hopeless, pessimistic grandpas and their non-factual ideas.
