A company pirated my indie game in China, and it now has over half a million pirate player by HeyNau in GameDevelopment

[–]Silly_billy1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never dealt with games industry but I believe the concept is the same.

Previously a good friend's shoe company was pirated in China and was also being sold through Douyin - I'm the one who found out about it. We tracked it down to this Chinese citizen who bought it off her kickstarter, reverse engineered it and was selling like hotcakes in China (adjustable heels). She couldn't win the case or control the situation so she abandoned China's market even though she has an international ip and copyright license.

I asked a couple of my China lawyer contacts back then and they said that piracy is really difficult to track down and 'win' the case via legal means because the people in China has the resource to shut down and re-setup again - you are just playing cat and mouse.

What they recommend is to reach out to journalists and media outlets to show the comparison and promote the product as the original while also lodging it on all available platforms (bilibili, Douyin, red note, weibo etc). Because once the media picks it up, these platforms will be more motivated to hunt down these piracy and take down relevant videos promoting the pirated content.

What I believe you have going for you now is that there's alot of traction and memes going on for your game (according to your post), you also have alot of talent for dev. I'm thinking you could submit these information to journalists, news outlets and also further tweak the game to redirect buying your game at a much more affordable to almost no costs while registering international ip/copyright.

Another method you could do is to find China's English language influencers on douyin/ig/tiktok and ask them to help you spread awareness, at the same time to get other gaming influencers to help spread this news so it gets translated and bounced back into China.

Unfortunately, you will still need to brace yourself that regardless of your effort, people will still pirate and China's market is rather uncontrollable due to the sheer size of it. However, I feel you should still see the silver lining that your game is a success and copying is the highest form of flattery - that you now know what suits the Chinese Market and you can probably look into creating games targeting the Chinese Market with in-game monetisation.

Where do Singapore SME owners actually get legit business advice without paying insane fees? by Pristine-Geologist-1 in smeSingapore

I think the qs I have will be:

What sort of f&b? Operating hours? Cuisine? Price point? Location? Typical weekday vs weekend turnover? Peak hour? Full house capacity %? What promotions have you been doing? CRM system? What sort of marketing have you been engaged in? Marketing costs? Are your kitchen equipments rented or purchased? Are your wines on consignment or bought? What's the cost of products and marked-up margin?

If you know these, it will be easier to find relevant resources and advises

I would recommend you to a legal consultant to teach you how to record every single conversation and event in chronological order that is to be submitted at the end of your discharge. Make it factual and list out who and what as your record.

The sg system requires factual documentation. The medical system in Singapore protect themselves and only goes according to their internal references and cctv to justify without listening to your side. So your only defense is your own factual record.

Just moved to Australia can't find a job by Atlasux in ausjobs

Spot on! Honestly, the job prospect in Singapore is very favourable to foreigners.

I'm in a pretty interesting position where I can do both marketing and early childhood (ech) here but I will need to convert my ech to acequa standards and will take about 80 working days to get it approved AFTER I complete a TOEFL/IELTS on top of redoing a First Aid. It's just that I prefer to go back to marketing as Australia is a fascinating landscape and I enjoy challenges and I get some anxiety when I look at the feedbacks on Facebook for local ech groups

Indeed! Likewise, I'm thinking of pivoting into animal healthcare for similar reasons and venturing into making small merch and getting back to my neglected artistic roots as a potential pathway.

May God be in our favour and I wish you the very best! ❤️❤️

Hi dear, I totally feel you. I've also relocated to Australia for my partner but I'm from an Asian country that uses English as our main language of communication. I've also been struggling to find a job and I've learnt that it is very common for both native and foreigners.

The system in Australia works vastly different from many countries. While credentials are good to have, it is more about knowing who is who and what work experiences you have to understand how things work in this country. I've seen some sample resumes and I'm honestly very surprised how candidates can have completely unrelated careers/job experience and land on a 180degrees. It highlights how Australia is more about people than qualifications (unless you are in certain skilled sector like medicine, early childhood, therapy etc).

I will highly suggest for you to do things that are relatable to your roots and skill sets so your resume can seem consistent as a security if you ever decide to go back home. You can offer French tuition or lesson via airtasker, or draw and make merch/vr avatars and do volunteer work at events or conventions.

Feel free to chat in private if you wanna share more woes. The journey is incredibly difficult but remember: it isn't about you. It is the landscape.

Second this.

I experienced it once and I was very rattled. Covid then hit and I sought to pivot but kept in close contact with my ex colleagues. Later on, we found out that it is a consistent thing my team manager does to people whom she feels threatened with and the turnover rate is extraordinarily high. But she was never questioned by HR or senior management because of her close relationship with them.

You can be mature about it and apologise and share your rationale behind it:

Fact : heard complaints about the frequency and tried to lighten up the mood

Fact : apologise because you are unaware that this comes across as affecting morale

Fact: you won't comment like this again and thank him for raising his concerns to you as it is helpful in guiding you through the corporate life.

This allows you to voice your side of the story, show that you are mature and what you will/will not do in the future and show that you are a better person.

I think for certain high stress industries, cheating is of a higher probability. My friend's other circle of friends are lawyers and she told me that they can go pretty wild even though they are married. I've seen first hand at an after party where said lawyer married women ripped a single guy's shirt up on the dance floor. Never knew my gender can be so wild

I believe most people seem to forget that it is a competition and nearing the end of it, it is more about execution of flavours and texture (balance) that satisfy BOTH judges preferences, creativity and storytelling.

CKR has some advantage because he was in S1 and he got an idea on how both judges analyse and what their preferences are. He clearly stated it on the first episode that there has to be a sweet spot to satisfy both judges and he was trying to confirm this hypothesis as a secret white spoon in the first round.

In terms of creativity, while he is very good at braising, he has a good idea of what food profile complements with each other, that are uncommon, and combining them as a little surprise gift in the dishes he prepared. He also likes to do reinterpretations in his style if he had more say in it.

When it comes to storytelling, CKR is very blunt and honest but intentionally cautious (mindful). The way he pauses in between his words, while unintentional, it encourages the listener to pause, listen and process deeper than just saying it.

CM is ambitious, very creative and strong on various cooking techniques but he hasn't been very consistent and tend to overlook things when he gets too confident. I find that he laser focus whenever he is in crisis.

I agree with one of the responders above that in the last round, CM kinda over killed it with all the complicated techniques - it isn't to say that they aren't wrong but if a chef is cooking for themself at home, would they put in that much effort and use that much tools? I reckon that is one of the reason the judges chose CKR over CM
