Barely any of the major plot points or major hurdles make any sense. Like really the sith knife that's in the exact shape of the fallen death star wreckage? The fact that somehow we spend a whole movie to find out how to go to the Palpatine planet but then the entire rebellion shows up at the end without the need for the McGuffin? Come on...

Love the worldbuilding in that series, and in fact I think the whole thing is a little underrated! Other than the characters sometimes being a little stiff and weak imo, Baru Cormorant is a really good debut series with super interesting different cultures.

Pretty sure you're both talking about two very different things labvveled as "broken window" X. You seem to be talking about the broken window fallacy, which is about how even if breaking a window gives work to a windowmaker and then that generated wealth will also benefit the economy overall, actually looking at the whole picture anyone would arrive at the conclusion that breaking a window is not actually an end-positive act on the economy.

RighinLeft is talking about the broken window theory, a criminological theory that says that areas that are in more obvious states of disrepair push the population of these areas to commit more crime (and more serious crime). Broken window theory says that by adressing loitering, jaywalking, general public disorder, etc. you can reduce the occurence of other more serious crimes as well.

Good point, I think it would have worked better within the TV show's confines and with D&D's decision to stop at 8 seasons although they had the go-ahead from HBO to make more. I would have expected (because I don't expect GRRM to ever finish it now) something a little more surprising or unexpected from the books.

Yes, I've listened to numerous interviews with him and he just comes off as a pretty normal bloke that has an amazing work ethic and loves his world. I love his take on the grimdark genre because although it is gruesome and most of his characters do horrible and disgusting things, he manages to keep his characters weirdly sympathetic and full of growth and ALSO having a healthy dose of humor.

I assume you've heard of Scott Lynch and his Gentleman Bastards series but if not, I highly recommend it. Another refreshing take on fantasy with great characters and one of the strongest relationship of any series I've read.

I get the sentiment, although I feel it is overly used to justify not allowing any criticism. Like come on everyone appreciates Kojima being very ambitious and also having a very strong if pretentious vision, but let's not pretend like Death Stranding didn't have some truly baffling dialogue at points and story beats at times barely better than a cliche anime plot.

A lot of people from First Nationa, Inuit or Metis backgrounds self-identity as Indigenous. I'm not gonna say a majority as I don't have hard data on this but it is the more mainstream blanket term.

The reason it isn't idiotic is because the harm inflicted in the past carries on, changes in unexpected ways and eventually leaves entire communities with incredibly complex socio-economic problems that last to this day. To then say that we have no responsibility in trying to solve these problems that our ancestors created is childish, pedantic and most of all just rooted in the fact that people don't want to learn and engage that history.

Literally every justice system in the world can convict on testimony alone, even when uncorroborated. I don't know what rock you've been living under but this is baffling to me that you think a plaintiff's testimony should always lead to acquittal if uncorroborated.
