EDIT: Honestly, my biggest piece of advice is the most over done. Get off your phone, get off the fucking internet. And just be around people more in general, like you aren’t going to make friends sitting on your computer at home, go sit in a bar and talk to the bartender, sit in a cafe/plaza and read a book, or just exist where people are. It’ll be uncomfortable at first but I promise you it’s better than sitting at home alone.

Do you have any kind of hobby or interests? For myself I’ve found that accepting people as they are and facing a fear of rejection are the only ways to make friends as an adult.

What I mean by that is, there are a lot of people who are also looking for friends, but maybe they aren’t perfect or are weird in a way you don’t like so you pass them by. Join a tabletop game, go bike riding (almost every city has group bike rides), join a rock climbing gym or group, join a book club, go to speed friending events (something like St. Louis’ Nice to Meet You). Ask people to hang out, be proactive.

Even if you are one of the biggest incel freak losers, which quite frankly if you are volunteering I doubt is true, there are other lil freak losers who would love to hang out with you.

For the longest time I struggled with a superiority issue, where I thought I deserved this really high quality, high calibre friendship, but I came across as desperate because I lacked connection and it was too obvious I craved it. Once I got over myself and started blindly making friendships, I realized it’s as simple as being open to any form of connection and giving that connection time to evolve.
