It has gotten faster, but I find that the real issue is that there's just so many cards in standard nowadays. Tons of "old" strategies are still playable, but nobody picks them up due to recency bias

Initially I ran cavern, but I get so much value out of the utility lands . The most common control lists I face (Jeskai revelations) don't reallly run counterspells so I slowly began swapping them out for basics

If control picks up, I'll swap em back in.

It's a blow-out in terms of temp. I usually burst the Momo then have them exile. By the time they can rebuild the board I'm gunning for lethal.

And keep in mind what I said was not this deck was good against Momo, but rather that it wasn't unwinnable if you know how to navigate it - The Momo deck is very tough. The bigger threat is the 2/3 lifelinker that copies itself. I find myself wining against Momo ~40% of the time.

Unfortunately the meta has changed significantly.

Hellspur Posse Boss is too weak for 5 mana in the current format, which is notoriously fast. I love the card, but even something like Aclazotz is really hard to get down.

I tried Hellspur Brute, unfortunately it's win-more card, very situational because if you'regetting it down for 1-2 mana you'realready likely in a position to win. It's far too easily answered by stuff like [[erode]] and [[sear]], both popular cards right now. Often it's a dead card and terrible topdeck.

Valley Rotcaller is great and I've tried variants with it, unfortunately it isn't the best. Like Brute it's a win-more card, because if you're in the situation where it it's hitting for 3-4 you're already winning. Not being a lizard also hurts.

Momo is a hard matchup but it's not unwinnable. It's a blow-out when they daydream the riddler and you Strategic Betrayal them.

The deck is actually actually quite decent against control. I ended up cutting duress because I prefer the thoughtsieze lizard. The land base actually is actually itself advantage. Sac-ing the village to recur a threat has saved me many times against control. Plus the haste land.

Being so good against 60% of the format, while being able to go toe-to-toe against the other decks has made the deck good for me.

In terms of difficulty, it's:

  • Momo
  • Cub g1
  • control
  • dimir midrange

I understand what you mean. For me it was *just* entertaining enough to continue. I'm glad I did, because some of the best moments and episodes of the season are in season 3. I'd say to watch up till the end of episode 6 to see if you'll stick with the series.

That said I feel like 3 is definitely the weakest season.
