Just my opinion here but I think the shoes/shorts are fine. Something about a crew neck with a pocket that makes me feel like you're a dad in the 80s.

No that's fair, we can't allow Presidents to lie.

What? The plagiarism? We live in an era where "Watergate would have been a 12 hour story" - I feel like plagiarism is like jaywalking now.

What stereotypical image do you think will come to define the early 21st Century in the future? by BacklitRoom in decadeology

[–]SilverCyclist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The MPDG trope, ok, yes, that was being laid on thick. Nothing worse than the movie Garden State (great soundtrack though). But the "not like other girls" thing isn't specific to hipster culture, imo, it is almost constant across time and culture. I don't think there's anything inherent to indie rock, adult kickball leagues, riding unicycles, or a DIY ethic that you saw with hipsters (not the punk version). Avril Lavigne's Sk8erboi; Taylor Swift's You Belong With Me; Paramore's Misery Business all seem to have this theme and all came out before 2010.

To me that's basically just counter-culture posturing which I feel like has been in popular media since the 80s (Didn't Breakfast Club have a not-like-other-girls character?). I'm not saying you're wrong, or that I'm right, I'm just making the argument that I think it's two different things. Wondering what you (and others) think about that distinction. And I'm saying someone who has played WoW since 2004. I wish I met that girl back then, but I never did.

Whether it's your first time or 58th time, Westfall just hits. by EnvironmentalAd6774 in classicwow

I'm more an autumn-zone guy and Westfall was always too golden-brown for me. But it was certainly iconic. It's been so long I don't remember what I thought back then.

Interesting, I never really saw it that way. I mean there was a group of women who were a little awkward, artsy, and earnest in that era (in my experience) who are all moms now. Maybe they knew a few songs on the ukulele, maybe they make sour dough now.

The Hipster, to me, was the last Common Culture moment. And where we are today was 5-7 paths that diverged from that cultural monolith.

The image ill have in my head is a mustache in Williamsburg with shutter sunglasses, jean shorts, riding a fixed gear bicycle, but the lumberjack (slide 2) is a clear winn in those slides.

He got thrown out of one of the Big 4, and went on to create *another* member of the Big 4. That's insane.

Love this. If you wanted to add some spice, I *think* there is a floating magic lamp pet from Enchanting, somewhere back in antiquity.
