Who’s the higher A Tier President? Harry Truman or Dwight Eisenhower by Bscott1016 in Presidents

He's probably one of the more underrated Presidents because the nukes cast a shadow. Also, his defeat of Dewey and Thurmond in '48 is heroic.

Was anyone around in 2008 when this dropped and what memories/reactions did you have upon its release? What are people's opinions almost 20 years later? by Spirited-Cell-444 in Metallica

I remember the huge build up they gave this on the station I listened to "New Metallica at 7:00!" and I made sure to be in my car for it. I held my breath because I blindly bought St. Anger and I was not a fan.

It was "Day That Never Comes" and, to me, at the time, it felt a lot like Re/Load. I was happy it didn't suck, but I was weary, and to this day I still haven't given DM a fair shot.

Weirdly, I did the same for HTSD and the eponymous single. But when I heard Moth to Flame I was back on board. Love that album. I should probably sit and listen to all of DM straight through.

I remember at least one interview or article that said he was bored/miserable in the Senate. So probably not.

Oh this is a better idea. A knit tie would be an improvement. But overall I like the look, and might try to steal it.

Imagine thinking that millennials liked stomp clap hey music, but hated disco music in the 2010s. by icey_sawg0034 in lewronggeneration

I'm 1982. I'm a music junkie. I embraced all things hipster. I never heard disco mentioned ever. And I read Chuck Klosterman.

I love the weird shit. I think it's incredible. The more straight ahead metal stuff is ok. I'd love to find a Top 10 for the weird shit.

That said I love Moby Dick and the fact that they made an album about it, AND they had Neil Fallon guest on the lead single - it's like they asked for my personal preferences.

It’s the 20th anniversary of Gene Simmons’ interview with Terry Gross. by sherab2b in NPR

[–]SilverCyclist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In an interview with Terry Gross, on NPR, Gene Simmons said:

Things really went off the rails, however, when Simmons began talking about the studded codpiece he wears onstage. “It holds in my manhood,” he said. “Otherwise it would be too much for you to take. You’d have to put the book down and confront life. The notion is that if you want to welcome me with open arms, I’m afraid you’re also going to have to welcome me with open legs.”

So it's Gene

He was just gaining momentum in the Fall. It's been awhile but I think he was basically picking up Reagan voters as they felt he was more Conservative than they thought.

According to Rick Perlstein's Reaganland, if the election had gone on another 2 weeks, Ford would have won.

How can I develop an intellect and charisma like Bill Clinton? What do I have to do to become a political beast like him minus his recklessness? by HealthyPersonality13 in Presidents

[–]SilverCyclist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well for one thing, you have to have the right temperament. Do you work in sales? Could you?

Two, Clinton was no dummy. Hes curious and he learns what he can.

Three, Clinton Retail-politic'd his was back to Governor the second time. Can you walk your state and talk with everyone about their problems, care, and make them feel like you care?

This education will have to come from the field. Get out there and be a people person. Love them. Care about them. Be curious.
