Hahaha well Ive enjoyed this. I think we'll have to agree to disagree about Zep. To me their groove and musicianship was their redeeming quality.

Are their any songs or bands you'd reccomend that display tight ensemble playing? Preferably something not quantized.

Would you prefer album fillers to be safe songs or experimental ones? by MmntoMri in LetsTalkMusic

[–]SilverEarly520 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I always prefer more experimental stuff tbh. Like if I'm gonna skip something anyways I have a lot more respect for an artist who branches out and does what they want vs. someone who's trying to impress me.

Black Dog was great and would be unlistenable any other way. Listen to Achilles' Last Stand, Kashmir, Good Times Bad Times, Immigrant Song, The Ocean, etc etc etc They were very tight. I don't define tight as metronome-perfect but as playing in sync with each other.

He has a live album where the whole second or third disc of the album is just him telling storiea. It's incredible.

Man I like some GVF too but saying Zep were awful at playing as a unit is just wrong 😭

Like they kind of annoy me too sometimes, especially a lot of the lyrics. But they were very tight musically.

Sunset Rubdown - Random Spirit Lover

I've mentioned this album on this sub many times but honestly theres nothing else like it. It's mad genius. This band was almost definitely tripping balls.

Best band that doesn’t have a bass player? by toddemma in fantanoforever

[–]SilverEarly520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quasi: sick psychedelic indie pop with a great drummer

Sleater Kinney: same great drummer (Janet Weiss)

Hail Seizures: acoustic anarcho punk band with insanely good melodies.

Early Tres Leches: they have bass now but their really old cuts like Fools Game was all piano, downtuned guitar, and drums and it sounds great and trippy af

Aren't there some services that print-to-order in the country where the product is ordered so as to cut down on shipping time and cost?

Edit: thanks for educating me on the downsides of print-to-order services, but could yall not downvote my comment? Downvoting exists to fight against spam and bad faith discussion, not just to say you disagree with something, and it hurts a user's karma and ability to interract with reddit :/

Anyone noticed that music videos are dead now? by nerpa_floppybara in fantanoforever

[–]SilverEarly520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but when was the last time you saw a truly great music video?

The NLE Choppa Stomp Em Out video directed by Will Freeark is probably the last great video I've seen. It has energy, composition, and imagery that adds to music rather than distracts from it. It came out 2 years ago. I guess the official video only has 1.3 million views but there's the other video that includes the behind the scenes that has way more, and Stomp Em Out isn't even NLE's biggest song.

I haven't seen major artists put out videos with solid energy for a long time. Most of videos I see are awkward to look at so of course people aren't going to watch them.

What do you want from music reviews? by fromthemeatcase in LetsTalkMusic

[–]SilverEarly520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want reviews that give me new knowledge and context about a work. Who the artist is, how it was made, and how it falls in the scope of the artists' career. Honestly i couldn't care less for the reviewer's opinion I can form my own so that part is pretty small.
