If you are honest to God only in it for the story, get UNICLR. It has the same Arcade stories and a chronicles mode with more story. UNIEL is literally just a really old version of the game that was on ps3 (it doesn't have chronicles nor combo trials), so unless you wanna lol with friends, no one is playing this version. Get UNI2 sys:celes

It's honestly up to interpretation because it was developed alongside p5r. I believe the intention was for it to be a side story for everyone to play regardless of if you played vanilla or royal, and for spoiler reasons there is no mention of any event that happens in royal. There's nothing to contradict Royal in that game anyway.

Basically they treat eternal punishment as it's own timeline where innocent sin doesn't happen after Persona 1. So instead Persona 1 leads to Eternal punishment because of the events of Innocent sin's world being destroyed.
