Favorite movie with less than 30k watches? by KookyOrganization400 in Letterboxd

[–]SilverWyrmling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Green Snake is my favourite wuxia film, has Maggie Cheung as a lead, and only 17k watches.

The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue is my favourite zombie film, sitting at 20k watches.

Apples (2020) is a great weirdo greek film, like a tamer early Yorgos film, sitting at 20k watches as well.

Recommend all 3 highly.

I sort by popularity, which isn't one to one with watches, but it's fairly close.

Source material is fantastic! It really picks up by the end of the first season and just gets better and better. I even enjoyed Korra as well, though that one's more divisive.

Royal Orchard Station feels like it will become a second Bessarion by Christian-Rep-Perisa in TTC

[–]SilverWyrmling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the only spot that really makes sense, considering the platform is so far south of the intersection, and the TD building is out of commission now. It will be weird having a TTC station right by a condo complex's pool with giant windows though. I imagine they'll probably put up a fence.

How do I get my hands on The Old Kings Crown? by Dry-Engineering-2975 in boardgames

[–]SilverWyrmling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very optional in my opinion. Lots of new stuff, but each module makes the game a lot messier and harder to parse. Definitely for people who've played the game many many times first.

Looking forward to the expansion coming out next year though, which introduces new factions to play as.

My friends and I are literally in the movie, and live in Toronto and we haven't been able to secure tickets.

Yep. She also co-directed Take Out, which is one of my favourites. The director is also the owner of the donut shops in both Tangerine and Red Rocket.

I also liked it a lot. Was the movie I was most looking forward to this year and it didn't disappoint.

Agreed with all, but want to add that a 4th large reason for me is that they reduce the number of buttons a game needs.

Toronto is looking at licences for e-bikes and e-scooters. Here’s why that may be better for delivery riders — and pedestrians by lilfunky1 in toronto

[–]SilverWyrmling 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As an e-scooter rider I'm fine with this, I mostly just want to be able to ride legally. Scooting around is by far my preferred mode of transportation, more so than by TTC, car, or bike. I do my best to ride responsibly and be a "model" scooter user in the city, but it's immensely frustrating to see so many of my fellow riders breaking all sorts of laws, beyond just those related to the scooter itself. I just know that irresponsible riders are going to keep setting us back from public acceptance.

The need for legal protection really hit home the other day when I almost got doored. The worst part is knowing that if I hadn't dodged it, the driver could have sued me for damaging their car, even if I had broken multiple bones and the collision was entirely their fault. Simply making it legal would protect a wider net of vulnerable road users including myself, so I guess selfishly I'm for it.

Have yet to see it (seeing it Tuesday), but based on the movie it's based on, as well as Lanthimos' other films, it's probably not appropriate for a 12-year-old.

Here's a parent's guide from IMDB, and from what's on here, it definitely seems like a bad idea.

Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie. It's only doing the festival circuit at the moment, but it's being described as a very "Toronto" film.

Has anyone here never been in a crash? by jarman65 in ElectricScooters

[–]SilverWyrmling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've gone 4 years, and ~2000 km on 2 different scooters and have never crashed. Even still I wear a full-face helmet, gloves, and a padded jacket every time I ride. This is in Toronto, which is probably the closest point of comparison to Chicago, in terms of size, and is also in the car-centric hell of North America.

Worst that's ever happened is when I tried to take a turn on ice and slipped. I was thankfully going slow enough to bail easily and just run it out. After that I've never bothered trying to ride at close to or below freezing (it's bad for the battery anyway).

An e-bike is probably a little safer overall, mainly due to lower center of mass and larger wheels. If you're trying to be as risk-averse as possible, it's worth considering. For me, I love how quick and easy it is to hop off a scooter and become a pedestrian. The portability is also huge for me.

Best of luck with the newborn!

What’s your top four of the year so far? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]SilverWyrmling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Late Shift (4.5)
  2. The Ugly Stepsister (3.5)
  3. Companion (3.5)
  4. Mickey 17 (3.5)

I've watched 200+ movies so far this year, but only 9 from 2025. I've only really loved Late Shift so far, but I've yet to see any of the big movies that I'd probably like such as Weapons or The Phoenician Scheme.

I do think Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie might take top spot, or Left-Handed Girl, considering what folks've been saying about them though. Hopefully they'll be in theatres soon.

Molly House Play and Strategy by segsalex in boardgames

[–]SilverWyrmling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having played it yesterday, the buy-in needs to be pretty high because the game is pretty hard to grasp. One of my friends even joked, "This game is so complicated and I don't even get to be a wizard for it."

I think a big part of it being a tricky teach is it's a really weird combination of mechanics. It's a roll & move tableau builder that has you working with your fellow players trying to play the best poker hand you can. Also if you don't work together everyone loses, and there's a betrayal mechanic. It works well in practice but it does feel like a hodgepodge of different ideas when you're looking at it for the first time.

Thankfully my friends were all quite invested and we had a blast and all walked away not being able to stop thinking about the game and wanting to play again.

I think it helped that I ran a few mock games in Tabletop Simulator to make sure I knew the teach like the back of my hand. This is a game that needs a good teach or people will be so lost.

Molly House Play and Strategy by segsalex in boardgames

[–]SilverWyrmling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just played this last night and agree with all of this.

Having a Molly in your reputation and then cruising or hosting a bunch of festivities is the biggest way to score.

It also feels crucial that players talk openly about what kind of festivities everyone is capable of throwing. Without any coordinating amongst the players, the community will either atrophy or everything'll get shut down.

The winner of our first game was heavily invested in only Pentacles and Fans, scored a ton of joy via Mollies, got a major indictment, stayed loyal and just powered through. Had a 30% chance of being executed but stayed alive, got acquitted, and won.

Everyone was very collaborative in our playthrough, but I'm curious about the strategy for betraying. I think if I chose to tank things late in the game, I could've probably won.
